The worst part of the book for me was when Riverstar convinces Night to stay… by essentially telling her that Starclan was the only way she’d see her dead kits and mate again. As an Atheist myself, it left a very bad taste in my mouth as it felt like emotional blackmail. It was very jarring to find manipulation that actual religious people use to try and convert others justified in the book. Riverstar had no idea if her mate and kits were in Starclan, as he didn’t know what they looked like and had never met them. It just jarred me.

Can we talk about how rushed and forced riverstar and finchsongs relationship was they only spent two moons together and at the end of the two moons finch is already expecting his kits and slash defeat and death was way to rushed he went down to easy
Agree about the Slash part, I was actually excited he had returned, a shame he just yeets off a cliff. 2 months however is pretty long in Warriors years though, that's probably like a year in human years.

Finch x Riverstar is just weird. According to the book, Riverstar was away for 2 moons. By the time he meets Finch, already roughly a week has passed. Then he spend another week or so preparing for a battle with Slash, so at best, a little under 2 weeks or a little under half a moon has passed. Then ofc he spends another moon and a half getting to know Finch and going back home. And shortly after that, Finch gives birth to his kits. So at most, there were roughly 2 moons between Riverstar meeting Finch and Finch giving birth. Now I am sure that the authors don't care or don't bother to look into this, but a cat pregnancy lasts for about 63 to 70 days, which is a little over 2 moons. So either Finch was pretty premature during her birth, or she and Riverstar had a fade to black scene right after they met. And I don't really like those implications-
I mean, it's like Bluestar and Oakfall. In arc 1 it was presented as a love story, but in her SE? She met him ONCE in private, immediately decided it was a mistake, and had his kits. I don't like the implications either
Overall I found Home to be alright. Though I agree that Night was the best part, hers and River's friendship was awesome, and it was a massive relief not seeing them be mates. Although, the romance was horrible. Both the crush on Flutter (he did have one or two cute moments thinking about her, but that's it) and the actual relationship with Finch just felt incredibly shoehorned. And if they now had a mandatory romance plot she should've stayed in the Park, at least then we could've had a cool setup for _Thunder_ by making Wafflepaw (whom I assume is a Park cat) be RiverClan's descendant.
Loved it when River thought Night had a crush on him, and she immediately yelled at him like "No I don't love you like that you idiot!" Sooooo glad they didn't get together.
As much as I love DOTC it’s kinda sad how this book was treated. It’s a shame that super editions nowadays are pretty much cash grabs and no where is that any more obvious than RH. I’ll admit I had faith in this book but even then it still felt disappointing that they played it way too safe. Riverstar’s Home is definitely better than Onestar’s Confession and Leopardstar’s Honor but at least I’ll remember those books even for the wrong reason. At least Riverstar’s Home had Night who better written than most female characters from the last two books. I don’t hate this book but it’s just forgettable which is not what you want for DOTC. Hopefully the next super edition will be good but I’m not getting my hopes up.
I wanted Riverstar to be a mentor or a father figure but not a mate. He cares deeply for children and is very kind . I don’t get why the authors need to give every cat a mate. If Riverstar found some abandoned kits and raised them I think that would have been so sweet and then he implemented the mentor program after training them first hand.
The price increase and the lack of special graphic novel was kinda disappointing... I like the idea of reading dotc again but it doesn't feel the same and the amount of mistakes is crazy

There is a leader who plows through all his lives, Ripplestar of ShadowClan, he was mentioned in Code of the Clans I believe. It was noted he lost all 9 while still being young. On a separate note, all your criticisms are very valid on this book
I HATE how Riverstar was characterized. He is wise, confident in himself, and mysterious. But in this book he doesn't even know what he's saying and is so boring. Night was the only cat with a good character!
real, like in dotc I fr thought of him as this all knowing, wise and mysterious cat. but now hes just your average leader, except has a little bit of a connection with the river and knows how to meditate
They completely ruined River Ripple entire personality. It was such a boring book that made Riverstar into an unlikable, generic, lonely idiot. In DOTC's, he was calm, friendly and intelligent, but also aloof and liked to keep to himself. In this book, he was lonely and lovesick. River Ripple did not need a mate. Or at least, Flutter didn't have to exist. We did not need Flutter. Also, what the heck was Finch? That whole storyline really weirded me out. Why did they become mates if he KNEW he had to leave? Why did they decide to have BABIES if they knew they would be separating? I'm not opposed to Riverstar ever having a mate, but the way they wrote his relationship with Finch was just so... unlike the Riverstar everyone loved. And they also took away his intelligence. He never says anythink smart unless they have to use his dialouge already written in Dawn of the Clans, and even during that his internal monolouge during that dialouge was "wow idk where this is coming from I dont really know what im saying", or we learned that someone, whether that be spirit cats or others, had told him what to say or showed him where to go. Riverstar is still my favourite founding leader, but I mean the Riverstar he was originally intended to be, not this annoying hopeless romantic we got in this book.
Slash's death is very on-brand. Drops a kit, drops an old man, drops to his death. It feels weird that the very first time the mountain cats meet River Ripple, he didn't even know how to swim. Kinda puts a dent in his image. (Spoilers for Thunder) I wonder if there's an intentional parallel being built between RiverClan in the second half of this book and RiverClan in ASC? No stable leadership, threatened by another Clan, with the other leaders not intervening. It would make sense since Riverstar is the one to give Frostpaw a quest.
It does make you wonder though if the plan was always to tie in whichever cat won to the current plot. Both Riverstar and Mistystar could have easily been placed in the timeline but Ivypool seems like kind of a wild card.
We don’t know for certain if she will be her deputy for all we know she could make it (ugh) Lionblaze. But I have my fingers crossed for Ivypool. Please squirrelflight pleaseee
This is the hope, although I've heard the discussion of nightheart becoming squirrelflight's deputy, guess we'll have to wait. Ivypool will certainly get her own SE sometime, she's far to popular of a character for the Erin's not to cash in on.

Bluestar's Prophecy is the perfect exanple of a super edition. It's interesting, keeps you reading, perectly drug out and enough to make you emotional because of the first arc. It also has some really heartbreaking scenes, like Whitekit crying for Snowfur and Mosskit's death.
I didn't read Riverstar's Home (because Dotc is my least favorite series and I don't like Riverstar), but I don't think Sunbeam didn't have reasons to quit her clan. She has more reasons to do so than Nightheart quitting his (like the fact that she doesn't want to follow either her mother or her leader).
worst part was slash’s death cause it feels like a way a cartoon character would get defeated. Plus the only one to get yelled at by StarClan was Clear Sky, but in Dawn of the clans they yell at Tall Shadow too for oofing Fircone to show clear sky was not the only one acting awful. But instead Tall Shadow got a warm greeting from starclan to show that oofing others is ok. What a great message..
This is off topic, but who else feels like Leopardfoot and Goldenflower should get a novel or super addition. I really want more background information about them, along with Jake maybe or even Sasha. I know Sasha has graphic novels ,but what happened to her after the new prophecy? Share who Else you want to see have a super addition or novel.
1 day late but SMUDGE!!! i know the writers r gonna ruin it and its gnna be boring if its actually made. but i think smudge deserves his own SE or at least novel. i'd love to see the life of smudge n rusty as kittypets before they got split apart. im sure theres a way to make it exciting, and it will be a nice throwback to TPB imo
I really want a Goosefeather super edition, I know it would overlap with his novella but they really did just create one of the most interesting times to be living in thunderclan and then refused to ellaborate further. Goosefeather is just such an interesting character, and it is a shame that no other books cover the post Mapleshade but pre Bluestar's prophecy era. We have so many books in the era just before the first arc but Goosefeather lives through a mass starvation event and so many other tragedies that are barely even covered in his own book, and it would be really interesting to see that from the perspective of a cat who knew what was going to happen but was powerless to stop it. It is barely even covered in his own book why his clanmates hate him so much and it is never addressed really what the other medicine cats think of him. Like at the very least it must have been insane as a medicine cat if one of you was just constantly predicting the future and always being correct, and the Erin's just never touch his character. My favorite headcannon is that Goosefeather stays away from most other cats in starclan because he was so haunted by them in life.
It would’ve been better if he didn’t have a mate at all. I don’t understand why the team feels as though he needs a mate. If they wanted more family members for him give him some cousins or siblings maybe?
I really love Riverstar, he was my favourite DOTC's character because of how mysterious and unique he was, and he had so much potential. His strange aloof personality, his idea to start the mentorship program, and his love for peace surrounded by conflict-bringing Warriors. It could have been such an interesting book, but it just wasn't. It was boring, and they changed Riverstar's personality to be so... generic. Like, he was just another lovesick, hardheaded tom like every other one. It was so disappointing. And don't even get me started on Flutter and Finch. They were both so unneeded. I would have been fine with Finch if their relationship was written better and Riverstar was still his original self around her, but him turning into this romantic, lovey dovey character was just so... unlike the Riverstar I remembered from DOTC's.
I think in the Prologue, it should have told everything necessary about the Cats in the Park. Then chapters 1-11 would be new and take place after Dawn of the Clans, but still in the main territories. Then you have the plot from the second half of this book, with his past resurfacing, then if there’s any more room at the end have him return to the territories. I feel in the first 11 chapters of this one, he spreads his ‘No fighting only peace’ mindset to the clans, then after dealing with Slash (in this one I believe he should kill him, or atleast let another cat do so if he backed down) he realises that fighting is nessecary and when he returns he will find all the clans meditating, living only in peace and not fighting but this causes attacking foxes and badgers to easily take their warriors and territory, so he has to fix his mess and help them find a good middle ground again.
tbh i really only like super editions and novellas that tell you abt a backstory for a charector that you would have never been able to know had it not been for that book. examples: Crookedstars promise, goose-feathers curse, Tallstars revenge, Mapleshades vengance (ig you could have known a bit abt it if you read crookedstars promise)
Honestly the worst bit about the book was how much of the book was repeats of the dawn of the clans. The best bit was the last third of the book. But I also understand how that part had to be built up? I would have loved the expansion of the meditation to increase his connection with starclan. If they had focused on the second part of the book it would have been a lot better.
I’m thinking that Sunbeam might be a spy. The fact that she was thinking all those bitter and resentful thoughts in her POV and then randomly rushes to ThunderClan could be used to create our first villain POV character. But knowing the Erins, it probably won’t happen…
I would love villain Sunbeam. In my opinion the best thing they could have done with Sunbeam and Nighthearts arc is either have them be best friends who change clans because they are happier together, or even just frame Sunbeam going to Thunderclan with Nightheart as a way she could fight on the side of Riverclan in their struggles with Shadowclan. Sunbeam as a character has a strong sense of justice it would make sense for her to go against her clan if she believed them to be wrong, just like how she was going against Berryheart for her treatment of cats who switched clans. Just let a female character change clans for something other than romance for once. I wouldn't even mind the constant forbidden romances if it wasn't always that the female character that has to give up everything. I think Rootspring and Oakheart are the only male characters we have ever had that have offered to switch clans for their partner and neither ever went through with it. Crowfeather I beleive also offers to leave Windclan for Leafpool but I am not sure if that counts because Leafpool also left her clan for him. Nightheart is a bit of a special case considering he left more so to escape his family than for Sunbeam.
I feel like Sunbeam had reasons to leave, unlike Finch. Sunbeam also knew Nightheart well before that book took place. The Finch part was definitely the worst part of this book. The overall message of the rest is good and I don't think I'd say Riverstar is always morally righteous. He dislikes Tall Shadow defending themselves from Clear Sky without getting the full picture because he's inclined to believe they're violent. Although he definitely is portrayed as better morally than the other protagonists, he also had a different POV from the start, which added some nice contrast. I don't think he was a mary sue or anything. Though I do wonder why they only decided to bring his stress into it and point out some of his flaws after he goes to find the park cats.
Warriors hates adoption, so of course this is never brought up, but Arc raised Riverstar from kithood. He even says he's like a father to him... and Flutter is Arc's sister. That means he was in love with his aunt...
It's not the worst super edition but it's very far from the best which i dont even know which one could be the best. I feel like they're all pretty meh. Riverstar's home is defintiely down there tho, the only good part of the book to me was Night

Ivy pool would have had a very boring super edition, she was a protagonist and it would just be repeating events that already happened, we even saw her quite a bit is the broken code and vision of shadows, I’m not sure what they would have to cover

Plus the only one to get yelled at by StarClan was Clear Sky, but in Dawn of the clans they yell at Tall Shadow too for oofing Fircone to show clear sky was not the only one acting awful. But instead Tall Shadow got a warm greeting from starclan to show that oofing others is ok. What a great message..

1 day late but SMUDGE!!! i know the writers r gonna ruin it and its gnna be boring if its actually made. but i think smudge deserves his own SE or at least novel. i'd love to see the life of smudge n rusty as kittypets before they got split apart. im sure theres a way to make it exciting, and it will be a nice throwback to TPB imo

I really want a Goosefeather super edition, I know it would overlap with his novella but they really did just create one of the most interesting times to be living in thunderclan and then refused to ellaborate further. Goosefeather is just such an interesting character, and it is a shame that no other books cover the post Mapleshade but pre Bluestar's prophecy era. We have so many books in the era just before the first arc but Goosefeather lives through a mass starvation event and so many other tragedies that are barely even covered in his own book, and it would be really interesting to see that from the perspective of a cat who knew what was going to happen but was powerless to stop it. It is barely even covered in his own book why his clanmates hate him so much and it is never addressed really what the other medicine cats think of him. Like at the very least it must have been insane as a medicine cat if one of you was just constantly predicting the future and always being correct, and the Erin's just never touch his character. My favorite headcannon is that Goosefeather stays away from most other cats in starclan because he was so haunted by them in life.

It would’ve been better if he didn’t have a mate at all. I don’t understand why the team feels as though he needs a mate. If they wanted more family members for him give him some cousins or siblings maybe?
I really love Riverstar, he was my favourite DOTC's character because of how mysterious and unique he was, and he had so much potential. His strange aloof personality, his idea to start the mentorship program, and his love for peace surrounded by conflict-bringing Warriors. It could have been such an interesting book, but it just wasn't. It was boring, and they changed Riverstar's personality to be so... generic. Like, he was just another lovesick, hardheaded tom like every other one. It was so disappointing. And don't even get me started on Flutter and Finch. They were both so unneeded. I would have been fine with Finch if their relationship was written better and Riverstar was still his original self around her, but him turning into this romantic, lovey dovey character was just so... unlike the Riverstar I remembered from DOTC's.

I think in the Prologue, it should have told everything necessary about the Cats in the Park. Then chapters 1-11 would be new and take place after Dawn of the Clans, but still in the main territories. Then you have the plot from the second half of this book, with his past resurfacing, then if there’s any more room at the end have him return to the territories. I feel in the first 11 chapters of this one, he spreads his ‘No fighting only peace’ mindset to the clans, then after dealing with Slash (in this one I believe he should kill him, or atleast let another cat do so if he backed down) he realises that fighting is nessecary and when he returns he will find all the clans meditating, living only in peace and not fighting but this causes attacking foxes and badgers to easily take their warriors and territory, so he has to fix his mess and help them find a good middle ground again.

tbh i really only like super editions and novellas that tell you abt a backstory for a charector that you would have never been able to know had it not been for that book.
examples:
Crookedstars promise, goose-feathers curse, Tallstars revenge, Mapleshades vengance (ig you could have known a bit abt it if you read crookedstars promise)

Honestly the worst bit about the book was how much of the book was repeats of the dawn of the clans. The best bit was the last third of the book. But I also understand how that part had to be built up? I would have loved the expansion of the meditation to increase his connection with starclan. If they had focused on the second part of the book it would have been a lot better.

I’m thinking that Sunbeam might be a spy. The fact that she was thinking all those bitter and resentful thoughts in her POV and then randomly rushes to ThunderClan could be used to create our first villain POV character. But knowing the Erins, it probably won’t happen…
I would love villain Sunbeam. In my opinion the best thing they could have done with Sunbeam and Nighthearts arc is either have them be best friends who change clans because they are happier together, or even just frame Sunbeam going to Thunderclan with Nightheart as a way she could fight on the side of Riverclan in their struggles with Shadowclan. Sunbeam as a character has a strong sense of justice it would make sense for her to go against her clan if she believed them to be wrong, just like how she was going against Berryheart for her treatment of cats who switched clans. Just let a female character change clans for something other than romance for once. I wouldn't even mind the constant forbidden romances if it wasn't always that the female character that has to give up everything. I think Rootspring and Oakheart are the only male characters we have ever had that have offered to switch clans for their partner and neither ever went through with it. Crowfeather I beleive also offers to leave Windclan for Leafpool but I am not sure if that counts because Leafpool also left her clan for him. Nightheart is a bit of a special case considering he left more so to escape his family than for Sunbeam.

I feel like Sunbeam had reasons to leave, unlike Finch. Sunbeam also knew Nightheart well before that book took place. The Finch part was definitely the worst part of this book. The overall message of the rest is good and I don't think I'd say Riverstar is always morally righteous. He dislikes Tall Shadow defending themselves from Clear Sky without getting the full picture because he's inclined to believe they're violent. Although he definitely is portrayed as better morally than the other protagonists, he also had a different POV from the start, which added some nice contrast. I don't think he was a mary sue or anything. Though I do wonder why they only decided to bring his stress into it and point out some of his flaws after he goes to find the park cats.
