A quick tip : when you’re soldering the xt60 confections keep both connected while soldering so that the pins don’t melt or shift out of position.

For midrange speakers (or anything that pulls less than 360 watts), you can also use xt-30 connectors. They can accept up to 16 gauge wire, and they might be an even better choice in some scenarios. I've used them on my smaller rc plane models, and I'm planning on using them for a new coaxial speaker install on my '96 continental. Thanks for the tips!

Very useful information!!!!!!!! Thank you SO much because this is like the most elusive part of the install in the form of people making videos and showing you their way of tackling this problem that so many of us face when upgrading to an aftermarket speaker. It seems so simple of s task at first then once you take the speaker of its like a crossroads to either pack it up and pay a professional or take the next step and this is what I needed to take the next step! Thanks again

+1. .. Great use of the original AMASS XT60 connector. .. Beware of cheap knock-off XT60 versions that melt, there offered everywhere .. The real deal AMASS brand/made XT60 connector is available online through RC Hobby shop's, Amazon, etc. .. Great connector for car audio hobbyist enthusiasts. .. P.S., I forget if Mark mentioned, however for H2O proof applications additionally 1" shrink wrap the entire connector. .. Works like a champ on a marine/audio application! .. Molex brand offers suitable connectors also, high quality too. ...

I came across this connector when messing with e bike stuff and had always thought they would make for a decent audio connection being low resistance, easily solderable and low mass. I'm currently designing 2 class d power amps to use these connectors for both power input and speaker outputs.
More specifically I'm using the xt60 E-F variety that mounts to in my case an abs project box. Time will tell if they were a better decision than the cheap brass banana plug binding posts that seem ubiquitous on cheaper audio gear.

Molex are nice too, but you need the tool to crimp everything correctly and the pins don't seem to be as flexible on the wire sizes that you can use. Still a great solution for the same problem but IMO these connectors are a little more versatile.

I tried xt30 connectors with 16 guage speaker wire. They may be just a tiny touch to small. But it still works very well. I haven't used xt60. It would definitely accept 16 guage a lot better, but then possibly harder to feed through small gaps as they are quite larger

Those would be great for a vehicle that demos a lot of different products. However, for a shop that installs many cars with more or less permanent systems, the convenience doesn't justify the price imho. Your average consumer isn't going to be playing with the standard connectors enough for them to weaken and cause issues. Personally id use them for a quick disconnect on a subwoofer box.

My amps are mounted in a tight spot and the allen screw terminals are hard to reach. A single connector would be ideal to connect the amps to my speaker wires by preinstalling the quick disconnect on the amp side.

If you are attempting to create a defacto standard for car installers for polarized speaker connections, you need to specify the polarity, so that others implement the standard uniformly. Although you do not explicitly state, it appears that the square side is positive and the beveled side is negative.

Sorry, but Deans aren't for higher current.EC5's for example are way better :)

michael weiler if you had been using these for years, you would know that deans connectors are a lower current connector. that's the reason these were created in the first place.

That tweeter could have used a micro Deans or mini XT60 given how small it was.
