I like to shuffle my deck, see what cards I get and then imagine what moves I would do. This makes you familiar with every single possibility of what cards you may start with.
What i like to do to reflect on my deck is giving yourself a deck profile and explaining the reasons behind cards/ratios. You will instantly see where you are unsure or where it just does not make sense :)
I especially like the part about having your deck ready. I spend so much time on building each deck. I would have an anxiety attack going to an event without everything I need.
I have always have the following in my backpack: -2 Deckboxes with 2 different decks: 1 For the main event and 1 for fun/casual matches when I'm waiting on friends or when there's a big break. -A Box with Dice and staples, in case I'm missing anything in my deck, though that has never happened before because I make sure to double check my decks. -A binder with trades. -My playmat. -Cash money, usually around 100 for things I might wanna purchase like cards, merch, food, drinks or in case of emergency. (Always keep it on person instead of the backpack) -Deodorant, usually Dove, very easy on the skin, smells good and lasts a long time. -Extra sleeves, in this case outer and regular sleeves, in case I need to resleeve some or all of my cards in my deck. -3 Decklists. One for me, one that I can hand over to a judge when needed and an extra one if I lose one. -Canteen/Bottle of water, gotta stay hydrated, also important for when going long distances to visit events. -Medicine, for headaches, stomache aches whatever is necessary to keep me from feeling sick. -Powerbank + charger, you don't want your phone to be empty when needed. And all of this fits very nicely in a single backpack.
Another solution for "not finishing your deck in time", just borrow cards from your friends, or if you're afilliated with a card shop, borrow some cards from them. Just give a good use to your fellow duelists' cards, as bad as it could sound using cards that are not yours in a tournament is not a crime
I just started playing about 3 weeks ago.. I'm 20 years old, and I feel like I'm late for the party, but my friend wants to take me to a local thing so I can learn how to play against other people, some of these tips made me feel better about going, even though I'm pretty sure I'll be the worst player there lol I really love the game so far though
Sean Jenkins so long as u listen and try ur best and know basic math, if u have a ok deck ( great ones to buy. Fiend lair of darkness deck just came out and is s beast...10 bucks) ull do fine. I just started again after a 10 year stop. I'm 24. I'm not great but I'm decent. Just try
Amazing timing! Saw this in my notifications when you posted but I was busy. Going to my first locals tomorrow. Saw your video about goal setting, so I'm aiming for at least top 5.
Regionals for me next weekend, definately need more play testing, thanks for the headspace update, even prepared you need to go back and revisit so it is fresh and you have not taken it for granted
Got a locals coming up on the 11th. It will be interesting as it is the first event the venue is holding. Excited to see what decks come out. Good advice for pre-event things to do
Rule #1 before going to a tournament: never, ever get your hair styled like that character (whatever his name is is irrelevant) in the thumbnail for this video.
Really good video. I just saw the top underrated secret rare cards worth picking up video from last year and was wondering if you could do an updated video about it. It doesn't have to just be secret rares, but holos in general
Also don't forget to check the ban list to make sure you didn't add them. Every year I build a new deck that way ai can perfect the deck I'm going to use.
Last tip should always be the first tip and we do that for fighting games and dragon ball super tcg. For dragon ball super our play test is more of what is our opponent playstyle and have the cards for agro and slower players.
Me, who only has primted cards (because money), and only plays against my other personalities : *humm yes very interesting, i'll remember this next time*
Unfortunately, I'm lost when I go to events, my closest events are 40+ minutes away, so I don't get to the shops often to see what decks are prevalent there. But then again I also don't usually play meta decks, recently I've been trying out the ABC deck since we're trying to find a fast reliable deck for my son to play. The decks he builds don't seem to keep up with the speed of my main deck, Harpies.
@@MrHwilRRR back when the comment was initially posted here was trying to run monarchs. His current decks are a Mayakashi/Zombie deck and a Generaider deck. I main Lair of Darkness and Mathmech nowadays. We still have other decks we mess around with from time to time but those are our frequent decks that we're upgrading as new stuff comes out.

I also do that to test combos on my first turn
Record every video like this from now on. This is fire.
"I play better when I'm sweaty."

4.Make sure you have EVERYTHING you need
5. Repeat steps 1-4

Sean Jenkins I felt the same way before going to my first locals and while I didn't do very well, it was still a lot of fun.

I'll be going to my first regionals in a few months, already trying to get mentally prepared lol. Gonna be fun!
Hey Team APS! You guys should have a tournament, maybe a livestream or a sort of series where 1 member versus another member
First regionals in Columbus on the 18th! Pretty excited!
Rule #1 before going to a tournament: never, ever get your hair styled like that character (whatever his name is is irrelevant) in the thumbnail for this video.
Skull Crusher His name is Yuma Tsukumo
Rule #2 forget his name
Really good video. I just saw the top underrated secret rare cards worth picking up video from last year and was wondering if you could do an updated video about it. It doesn't have to just be secret rares, but holos in general
Really useful, thanks

Me, who only has primted cards (because money), and only plays against my other personalities : *humm yes very interesting, i'll remember this next time*
