You Should Compete in Yu-Gi-Oh Tournaments and Here's Why.

- There are a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh players who don't go out to play in local tournaments. That's fine, but it's definitely something you should consider, and these are my reasons why.

yo triff I made a endymion magician guardragon deck and am getting 4 to 5 negates every tern its cuz if you love you combos and you are 1 of the smart people who know how op pendulums are.. tier 0
Jokingly
Jokingly i got banned for saying i stalled for time. JOCKINGLY
What? Are you still banned? I watched your videos 6 months ago and then i stopped the game
I have not played an actual game of yugioh in almost 10 years and I still watch this channel regularly
And for that, you are the real MVP. đđŸ
Me either I never went to a yugi oh tournament before. From what I seen on CZcams it look fun.
@@KitsuneGod28 i haven't played since the late 90s and went to my first yugioh tournament and got beat by a girl who unleashed exodia back then

Went to my first locals recently and went undefeated! Total worth the experience and got a lot of respect from people there and cards i needed.

Someone's stuff always gets stolen at my locals. Every goddamn time...
maybe find a new locals
that's just wrong. We actually don't care about leaving our cards everywhere, everyone know each other pretty well even though we're a pretty big community. So we're fine, at least where I live. Casablanca, Morocco.
@LynZ the best thing you can do is have a trusted friend or player watch your stuff if your attention is going to be somewhere else
Nomi04 yup
You need a new locals
then when you are in tournament you are in game 3 activate instant fusion make thousand eyes equip their only defending monster link into linkuribo- time is called in the round and you go home crying.
Thats why you dont link just go into battle

I think this was a big help and definitely provided a lot more insight into how the competitive scene for the game looks and what to expect from it.
I haven't been to a yugioh tournament before but I do plan on it, this video definitely encouraged me more! Thanks TeamAPS
The highlight of my week will be my locals this Saturday,
Hopefully i get to rematch a Burning Abyss player whose beaten me twice in a row now,

I'm a returning player from when the game first came out. Used to play and trade at the local Books a Million. This is very funny that you decided to do this video. I live in VA and Cimooo has been promoting the Pro Play Tour stop in Richmond next week. I'm hesitant to commit, mainly based on knowledge of vast amount of Meta and Rogue strategies and my lack of experience with Side Decking and some other important play experience. But I've been sucked into the game and assembled a Top Tier Rogue deck. Love watching you Yugitubers and the live duels like the replay of the NAWCQ recently.
I really rambled haha Thanks for making this video and I really like your channel and this one will definitely make me think about the upcoming tournament!
John Judy good luck!!!đ
So what happened?
Thank you, I was in dire need of confidence for my up coming tournament in April
Much love from NC really love the content!!!! Keep it coming
I love the background music in your videos; keep up the excellent work!
As someone who played casually for years Iâm proud to say that now Iâm looking forward to competing. Just need to find areas to play and have some fun :) also thank you for these videos, itâs helped me a lot with getting back into this game after about 15 years
Steal all your cards
Dang are they trying to say yugioh tournament people are like the team rocket of yugioh
rare hunters
Just subscribed. I look forward relearning the game and it's new rules. I cant wait because I am so confident. Thank you this was a great video.
Love your energy and your channel, keep up the great work, definitely some of the coolest/nicest guys in the Yugioh world!
Going to yugioh events is always fun. I went to my first regionals in years and i ended up in the top 32 which let me go to my first NAWCQ ever and it was a fun time, despite my round 1 opponent being really unsportsmanlike, all my other opponents and everyone else that i met were supper nice and supportive. Hopefully everyone can experience these events at least once
I actually just went to my first tournament and lost every round đ
I feel that pain lmao
It's kinda hard to go to a new card shop when there are only 2 ots stores in your state
I never been to a yugioh tournament before. Your channel is awesome.
My only issue is that there's nothing Yu-Gi-Oh anything near me. Is it just me, or is the word "forced" used a lot?
Nice if there were tournaments in places outside of America Europe And Asia :(
I can agree to this, stopped playing yugioh around the time synchros came out then came back and decided i want to give it a try again and went to my locals met some new people that helped me get back into the game and taught some of the mechanics that i missed mainly how pendulums and links worked an now we we see each other at locals maybe every week or say and have fun throwing together random decks for the tournaments. While it also showed me people that ive seen at my college and never talked to before and we bonded over the game and hang out a lot more outside of yugioh
I personally don't go to tournaments because I don't know all the card interaction rules and most don't make sense to me. I'd miss a ton of opportunities and would need a dedicated judge just for my matches.
Most rulings are very simple. Just remember action words: Use, Activate, etc. and the keywords of the game. Your opponents will help you especially at a local level event no one actually cares about winning locals(bar a box tournament maybe). Locals is where you test your deck for high level events like regionals and ycs and since everyone wants the best testing they will help you become the best you can. Itâll get easier as the weeks go on.
Read the rule book
I just got back into yugioh dont be afraid to ask people for their cards to read and just asking about interactions most people are really cool
@@Daniel-dl7ft Rule number one.

I'm here from the future in the year 2022 and after getting back into the game during the pandemic playing with my coworkers on our breaks or in the back after we punch out after having not played for many years, I'm now preparing for my very first tournament I found a card shop that is does tournaments on my day off thankfully.
Went to a locals last Friday and it was great! Got Ghost Ogre, Ghost Mourner, a new copy of Ash Blossom and the rest of the cards I needed for my vendread base!
The rush is a legit thing, good point Paul. Just finished school in April and working full time now and I find between exercise, social life, and work I havenât been to locals in months and all I wanna do is play with my Guardragons before theyâre taken from me damn I miss yugioh
I will go to my local YGO tournament. Next month much love from Alabama.

Hey Paul I want to thank you for giving me the boost to play again. I got back to playing two weeks ago and Team APS was a big reason for that.
I started playing about a month and half at 2 o my local shops I have been attending once a week and so far the the people that I have met are outstanding, very welcoming, they are super friendly and teach me how to play , Iâm currently playing a dark magician deck build as competitive as it can be and I went 3-1 at my locals this past Saturday playing against meta , not gonna lie I felt good beating the good decks
My area finally got a local card shop that do weekly tournaments and daily duels ( for fun ) and Iâm definitely going to be visiting it time to time
I remember going to my LCS interested in getting back into it after being away for over 10 years. Naturally I had questions but the owner of the LCS didn't like the fact I had questions. He was rude to the point it was insulting. I ended up going to a different store in the next town over and they were super friendly and helpful with my questions. Fair to say that became my new LGS to attend events and of course spend money
The only reason why i havenât entered a tournament (locals at least) is i canât drive so my friends parents have to pick is up at a specific time before the trafic starts and the time they pick us up is when the tournament starts
Ooooh I get "The Rush"
But the best feeling... the BEST feeling is, as I call it, "the Smile"
The Smile is the moment when both players are having SO much fun, that they both just smile / smirk and just fall into the game with so much passion and love.
Just..... just the best....
I donât play yu gi oh but this is a cool video that applies to a lot of physical games. Keep up the good work :)
I dont even play Yugioh anymore, but your videos are very entertaining. I hope your channel will have more subscribers!
Me and a group of friends show up to every regional we can. It's awesome seeing the extremely rare cards some vendors have, meeting new people, and of course having a full day to play the game. I usually show up with at least 60 dollars. You might run into a toxic player or 2 in the first couple rounds, but after that most of them leave because they're X2 now and have no hope of an invite to nationals which is sadly all they are there for.
Melodious stun vs mystic mine was amazing I loved that match up it went to game 3
Tournaments huh, I dont even have locals around here

Who read this have a blessed day mate.
You too

So heres my situation:
The nearest yugioh "locals" that has any tourney is always a Wednesday at 5:30 I get out of work at 5 like a normal person and the drives an hour away the next closest shop is an hour and a half away I'd love to compete but theres no way I can ever make it to ones around me any advice would help
Great video, I enjoyed it. Thank you. :)
awesome video. nothing like a tournament
Good vid and love your vids
Trell if you read this what are your thoughts of the current state of the NBA after all the trades!
I can agree fully. I was a newer player to the game, only fifteen years old, And I had a copy of Dingirsu. I was horrible with technology, so I could not sell it online, and I was afraid that my lack of a lot of Yugioh knowledge at the time would end up getting me scammed. But only did I meet these older people at my local card shop that were interested in the trade (of course) but they helped me work out the differences and refused to give me anything less that was not equal to The Dingirsu. They were really nice and not I am a regular at the tournament at the card shops.( up until recently of course)
My best friend has been helping me get into Yugioh. I wonder if heâs gone to a tournament before. Iâd love to go to one with him!
Like jack atlas said when u win itâs feel like u felt more power and and more brighter to fight harder for the rush and the thrill
Great advice.
You guys are awesome
i wish i could go to a tournament but the only place in lawrence kansas is a game nut localsđ
Yugioh got hit hard in my area, alot of people migrated to either magic or dragon ball card game, some card places even stopped hosting tournaments cause they can't get many people together. Only one card shop does it now in my area.
Haven't gone to one yet but I love building specialized decks made my new deck with 2 15 card side decks dueled myself as fairly as possible and got to know my card effects well then put the 15 in the deck I prefer and made an op 60 card deck for just 25 dollars using the gates of the underworld structure and swap and add a few. Strategic and when they see Belial and/or tagoedia... You'll maybe lose soon, tried extremely hard to not 1 hit myself while vs. myself, had to not attack most of the time to make it last long
I plan on going to my first locals in less than a week from now!
Local tournaments are awesome, when I went my first time I got 4th with my Lunalight deck. Haven't matched that since but even then every time I've gone it's been so fun. My favourite experience is still my friend and I end up playing against each other at the end of the tournament. I take Game I've, He takes game two. Game three it looks bad, and I topdeck my sided Mystic Mine. It stalls out until he manages to pop it, goes for battle, and time is called. It felt so fitting
I am I kid what should I do I play casual and don't have a deck set on any card so what do u recommend I do not have cards to tribute summon most of my cards
Hey aps my nephew is trying to getting into yugioh I was wondering if you guys can make a a few video teaching new players
i'm that player who hasn't played since the jinzo prime days, I came 3rd in ireland in the nationals, Been thinking about getting back into yu-gi-oh TCG, gave away my collection years ago, but i was wondering if it's still worth getting into these days? i'd have to re-learn all the rules and summoning types/methods.
I quit for 5 years and now I'm excited to see come back
I used your code to get a custom playmat. Just waiting on it to come in.
Well sucks if you dont have any locald
I'm Canadian and I love yu gi oh but there never any people that play around my area and I'm 11 so I cant really go in tournaments cause there's none were I live and I was wondering if you had any suggestions
I wish I could but ones that are 3 hours or closer never on good days be it finals day or seminar days for college. And the only locals I have only starts at 8pm on Saturdays and it's a 45 minute drive to that. so leave at 7pm and on wont get home until 11-1130pm breaks my heart. I just want a chance to play the game I grew up on.
Then give that locals a chance. Just do it once to find out if the drive is worth it and if the people are cool. One dude that goes to mine lives an hour away but he goes here almost every week because he loves this place and us.
@@questions7216 I've been to the couple but the problem is that there is usually only 4-5 people who show. There are even a couple of times that I went and no one showed so had to just drive home.
@@aaronashcaster5875 I didn't know that you already did go. Try the others now since school is out now unless you're in summer session
any recommendations for custom card sleeves now that inked gaming no longer does them?
i just sit by myself when at locals, unless i am in a tournament, even then, i sit alone in between rounds, and the only tournaments i've been to is just locals, even when regionals comes near me, and i have never topped, always placing towards the bottom of the list, and i never pull anything good, and i have never gotten better
This is so trueđŻ
I want to ask a question what kind of deck would you recommend for a amateur player who doesnt k ow anything about meta or that doesnt have a good deck?
As much as I really want to go, I live wayyyyyy too far away. None of my local card shops actually have tournaments for yugioh due to the game not being popular in my area. I do go to magic the gathering events though, that's about as close as I can get.
same here man. It sucks. Just wanna play.
I went to my first locals this weekend most fun I had in a long time and really help feed my competitive nature lol won the whole thing Friday went back Saturday and got spammed like a red headed step child lmao definitely gonna go back
I love going to my locals even when I dont top I tend to have fun we have a bunch of good nice players both casual and competitive also my local card shop has our own kaiba theres a dude who kaiba cosplays and we just call him kaiba
I have been wanting to play with people in so long I miss meeting new people
I need to start searching for a local card shop near me, I miss my red eyes deck đ
My favorite deck was a monarch removal deck. A long time ago
Aight, I stopped playing when the new format came out. Had my Toad Dank Law Heroes at the time and is still my main deck. Question: is the deck still viable if I come back? I've been on the fence about it for years now, but the itch never goes away. So, yah or nah?!
Hey Team APS do any of you guys go to Kings Games in Brooklyn New York or locals or regionals?
Hey! Iâm a 15 year old boy from the UK and Iâve played yu-gi-oh for around 3 to 4 years now but I have never played in a tournament and just played with my friends but now none of them play anymore so should I look for events been taken place around where I live? Or play the online game?

I would, but I don't understand stuff like spell speed and my deck isn't complete yet.
Hey for a deck of mine what cards are good for getting weak DARK Monsters to the hand
Yeah I don't think so I'm just getting back in the game with some friends and we're only using old cards pre synchro summons. I doubt it would be much use

Hey! So Iâm a new player and Iâm trying to get into the tournament setting etc, does anyone know any good link monsters to use with a Phantom Knights deck?
Also thanks in advance for anyone who shares their advice!
Paul I keep either winning due to time, losing due to time, or tying due to time. Like my last time at my locals our game 1 went into time 45 minute game 1 and only won because of my life points was higher
I want to get back into yugioh but I donât know all the new rules what deck I need Iâm just lost right now
Im usually a shut in kind of player I only had 1 real friend but going to my locals for the first time I noticed how much I was missing out there are allot of nice people I was kind of shy at first I didnât what to go up and challenge anyone because of my fear of losing but eventually I mustered up all my courage an challenged someone my age it was super fun I was 12 back then sadly I think the shop shut down
Team APS! Can you please make a video on how to make an extra deck? There are videos all over CZcams on how to side deck. But not how to build an extra deck.
Reason #1 @1:05 honestly blew my mind. Been playing yugioh off and on since my elder brother introduced it to me back when I was younger... Honestly, didn't know online yugioh was a thing, I've only known yugioh face to face lol. It's 1000% more fun with friends all playing together.
(This applies to before lockdown) I would enter a tournament but Iâm scared to because of online dueling, I have had some really fun duels online but my deck just cant compete with the decks I see online, I use chronomalies which unfortunately canât touch loads of decks that I see online, Iâm so used to people doing combos that can literally take ten minutes and get a full board of monsters with 3k attack and even though chronomalies work against decks that have monsters that change their points, the opponent almost always negates my effect or finds a way around it, I feel like to perform half decent in a tournament Iâd have to get a completely new op deck that I donât really enjoy playing like I do for chronomalies
hey man, im an og yugioh player....but im stuck on and obsessed with my armed dragon deck....anyway i could talk to yall about what to do or a way i can show yall my deck profile to make it playable again in meets and locals. i trust yall and love your vids and just need help getting back into the game i love. thank you for your time and i hope to hear from yall

I'd love to go to a local card shop to be in a local tourny but my mom wont let me she thinks they all cost
Locals costs like $5 maybe $10 if thereâs a box tournament going on and most locals have free days, at least once a week. Go to those. Find a OTS near you if you can and give your mom the number so she can clear things up. The official Konami site has a list of stores just put in your zip code.
