    My 2016 just turned over 133k and has been the most reliable vehicle I've owned. I'm on the third set of tires and they never wear poorly. The only engine-related repair I've had to do was the thermostat sensor and that didn't fail on the road. I'm still on the original brakes and suspension components. I get 29MPG without a ladder on top and 24 with. There are no rust issues either. I have been so impressed with it's abilities and dependability that I think I would kick myself if I traded it off.

    To anybody complaining that they can't fit their motorcycle or an 8' sheet of plywood or that it doesn't run on diesel...... just buy yourself an 18 wheeler and that will solve your problems.

      They just don't understand that this van isn't a cargo van. My stepdad uses this van for his roofing company.

    Good video review, thanks. I like the way you really pushed the van in the test course. They should have brought over the 2.0L diesel version. I think the Ram guys are wrong to think that Canadians & Americans would not want a 40+ mpg manual diesel version, and also the high roof model that is the Doblo XL in Europe.

    Well done review, thank you. Interesting that it handles like a car. As that the 2015 is its inaugural year in the United States (and it's not exactly the same as the Fiat in Europe today), do you have any thoughts on its longevity and maintenance (high or low)? Also, for the model with the seats that fold down, it'd be nice to see what that configuration looks like.

    the Promaster City has powertrain options same as what's found in the 2015 Chrysler 200. The 2.4L I-4 Tigershark Engine with the 9-speed automatic. It's nice and all, but does it really need a 9-speed? I also hear the 9-speed transmissions' shifting is delayed and laggy and makes engine feel unresponsive. Is this true?

    • @mykullee
      @mykullee Před 8 lety

      ***** The thing is though, I've heard from a lot of automotive journalists that these tend to get very jerky (I definitely believe you in regards to the fact that it's smooth when cruising) and they don't tend to reach 8th or 9th gear all that much. Especially for us in Canada, when we go down on highway at max 120km/h you'd only reach 7th or 8th gear. I haven't driven the car, but unless the gears are ratio'd very closely, you wouldn't really *need* 8th or 9th gear.
      I also thought only people/corporations who have businesses that require somewhat larger vehicles to haul stuff buy these cars, but it's good to see that you have your own for family purposes. I hope the vehicle is treating you well.

    Sheet of plywood is 96" long.
    How is 81.2 inches going to accommodate that?????????
    All you mentioned is that it handles the 48" width.

    Questions!
    Is it a coincidence that the Ford Transit Connect is also built in Turkey?
    Can it tow? If yes, what is the tow rating?
    You mentioned that there is a passenger version. Will this model eventually replace the current Dodge Caravan?
    I wish they would have let you do the test course with a payload inside...

      Here in Europe they sold them mostly with turbo diesel engines with more torque than this 2.4 tigershark. They also get more than 40 miles per gallon easely.

    I've worked out of Chevy Astro vans all my life and can't find something new to replace it. Why does the market jump from these compact under powered matchbox vans (like the one in this video) to the bulky 3/4+ ton gas guzzling full size vans? Is a 6 cylinder short wheelbase 1/2 ton mid size cargo van too much to ask for?

    • @BrushCommando
      @BrushCommando Před 9 lety

      loudpipesavelives69 look at the Dodge Ram Tadesman M/V. That's what I have been working out of for the past 3 years and I like it a lot (I had an Astro van before that). Now, the company I work for is changing to these promasters; for reasons that I can not understand... I'm not happy about it.

    I have had mine since new. To start I will say always get the cruise control. I cannot see the pathetic speedometer in amber lighting on the dashboard due to the sun here in super sunny Florida. I put an app on my phone and velcro on my mirror to monitor my speed. Too close to tickets. The 3 windows allow too much light into the cab. Night time is better. I put the removable window film on but cant see too well. I like the red paint. I have that. I have had two mercedes sprinters both high top and one extra long. Both diesel. Both were very high dollar repair vehicles. Never ever again. I have had eight other cargo and window vans. Never again on a Ford. I never had a Nissan. Cheaply made interior. Chevy vans get good reports from those I question. I do like the height of the floor. Easy in and out. Easy to drop cargo in there. I do not bump my head like on my 1984 Dodge B-250 with 74,000 original miles cargo van. It is for sale. That is my experience. Very firm ride which I appreciate!

      The US build 9 Speed ZF-Transmission has evolved quite a bit since it was first introduced to the new Jeep Cherokee in the year 2013. Meanwhile this 9-speed unity shifts very smooth without being at some point slow or confused, it's practically perfect in the new Chrysler Pacifica. Mechanically it has never been more unreliable than other transmission unities. Transmission developed by german supplier ZF are usually among the best, mechanical very reliable and long lasting. This new unit compensates for the effects of mechanical wear and tear to a certain degree by means of the calibrating measures initiated by the software, which betters the long term shift quality/ reliability consistently. Unfortunately for FCA (and other manufacturers who have put on this new unit) the software was somewhat unripe at first.

    When he said "Modified for the American market", I knew it was ruined! Then it has a unibody which is not strong enough for continuous load and rough road work. Then front wheel drive- those CV joints are not going to hold up! Then it has an anemic engine that when carrying that 1,800 lbs all day will get you killed. 4 cylinders are for little Toyota rice burners, not commercial trucks!!!
    Bring back the regular vans or the Astro van!!!!
