This world cup final resembled the 1996 cricket world cup final in many ways:
    1. According to Alex Malcolm, Australia was on the ground checking conditions around 9 or 10 p.m. The day before the final, Captain Ranatunga did the same.
    2. In 1996, Imran Khan advised Ranatunga to bat after winning the toss. In 2023, all experts agreed that Australia should bat first. Both bowled first against expert advise.
    3. The target was 240 vs 241.
    4. Neither was given a realistic chance. In 1996, SL were minnows, and while Australia were far from minnows, they were certainly underdogs.
    5. Sri Lanka lost both openers in the first few overs, while Australia lost three early on.
    6. Aravinda scored a match-winning 107* against McGrath, Fleming, Warne, and Reiffel. Head also scored a match-winning 137 against Bumrah, Shami, Jadeja, and Kuldeep.
    7. Gurusinha played a similar role to Marnus, scoring 65 of 99 balls.
    8. SL's plan was for everyone to bat around Aravinda. Warner, Head, and Marsh were going hard and batting around Smith and Marnus who soaked up the pressure.
    9. Both Head and Aravinda scored brilliant innings in the semi-finals. Both of were player of the match in the SF and Final.
    9. Played in the subcontinent, and the chasing team won.

Aussies trying to rub salt in the wounds by exaggerating their indifference to the victory and its worked like an absolute charm to wind a bunch of us up and compound our misery. First off, Indians have to accept that our obsession with this sport is abnormal and cannot be compared to any other country, and no one truly 'cares' like we do. But it would be incorrect to say the Aussies don't care about cricket - you only have to look at the retainers for their central contracts (they're paid higher than Indians), the valuation of their TV broadcast deals, and the size of their player pool relative to population. They won't be announcing a national holiday to commemorate the occasion but this is not nothing for them.

    • @almac9203

Cricket is the number one sport in Australia but it isn't a religion. I would say ordinary people keep a passing interest in it but aren't obsessed by cricket. Australian domestic cricket is very competitive and anyone that represents Australia is battle hardened because domestic cricket is tough. You don't get to play for Australia unless you are mentally and physically tough.

1:08:00 I think Darryl Mitchell , Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips innings in the semifinal spooked them . Rohit was expecting to rollover NZ and go through easy . You can see he changed his bowling order and completely took Siraj out of the game . He hadn't changed anything until that final . He feels more in control of a low scoring match than a 400 vs 400 . Hi @thegradecricketer, I have figured out why Aussies won the wc, it's not Travis Head but Cameron Green and that's not because of his rig, this started in the last Ashes series, in the 1st or second test, Australia were bowling on a slow dead track, Green bowled a slower bouncer and they figured out that's the best tactic for bowling on a slow dead track where the batsmen want to go after you. Even England did the same thing in that test match where scoring 300 looked impossible to do when the bowler was doing that. In this wc, all teams threw everything at India, they were well prepared for everything, except this. I guess they were not watching the ashes. And that's how Cam Green won Australia the wc without even playing.....

Boys, I really love the job you guys do, been a huge fan, watch every video of you guys. Also I'm a massive cricket nut and supporter of Indian cricket. As devastated as I'm with this loss, I'm still making this comment in an objective manner. I honestly feel the numerous references of India doctoring the pitch to their advantage in the final was a bucket load of ridiculous shit I feel. I'm not saying with the way the Bcci is, the power they wield and the absolute joke of an administration it is that they wouldn't have absolutely not done it, but the thing is we have no proof of it. We never will. And especially, after the saga around the pitch for the semifinal, it'd have been so gutsy to tailor the pitch for this big game. Again we never know. The fact that should be considered is it's a close to 2 month tournament, pitches does get tired, it was no different than the 2019 Lord's final pitch. And I'm saying again, especially after the backlash around the pitch change for the semifinal, there would have been surely more independance on ICC's part to handle the pitch for the final. Again, I'm not ruling out entirely the shambolic BCCI administration trying to do it, but we don't know. But India didn't lose because of their audacity and hubris to doctor a pitch for their benefit in the final, they lost because of a couple of mistakes, Australia playing perfect game for the conditions and the day, and a couple of moments not going India's way. I know you guys are no frigging journalists, so I never expect any objectivity in your comments, and of course, the pitch comments in this video were sarcastic, but come on for goodness sake, I at least expected you guys to give the benefit of doubt due to lack of clear information on this, such as there was no frigging English journalist launching a piece the morning of the game with collaborating statements from icc pitch consultant or anything like that. Finally, Australia won because they played better cricket on the day and India did NOT lose because they were shallow enough or hubiristic enough to doctor the pitch. Great work all along the World Cup though, been a blast watching you guys every morning after the game.

On the issue of India being "Choker" or "Not having the winning mindset" or simply "Unlucky"; we become all that only if team and fans start believing in those things.
Yes we have not won an ICC tournament is last 10 years, losing in knockout matches 9 times. But there is an ICC tournament every year like T20 WC(2024), WTC & Champions Trophy(2025), T20(2026), ODI WC(2027), Olympics(2028) and so on.
If India continues to be the best team(as they were in this tournament) and have the right mindset, then luck will not always be against us.

Go watch the welcome home in Buenos Aires for the World Cup winners last year. 4 million in the streets, people trying to jump onto the parade bus, the roads were completely jammed packed with people to the point where Messi had to get on a helicopter. The emotional release in fan reactions to winning the shootout and in the commentary (people literally breaking chairs after 36 years of pain).

All that’s been on news and all everyone has been talking about is cricket..only people that I know of that missed watching it were people who couldn’t stay awake till middle of night..maybe Indians need to ask themselves why a country with over 1.4 billion people couldn’t find better players whilst Australia with our small population of 25 million always has an abundance of players to choose from.

Mateship in Australia is bred into us and if anyone is seen to be “up themselves” or thinking about their personal milestones over the team milestones they would be driven out of the country..for example Ben Simmons who plays in the NBA is not that popular as he hasn’t played for Australia in Olympics but Patty Mills who bleeds green and gold is a fricken dead set legend who everyone loves as he puts Australia and the team first.

I despise his politics and think the opposite but dont hold it against him. I love the way he stood up to JL on behalf of his players and and am thrilled he is vindicated by the achievements post Langer. I lost a lot of respect for JL through this because he made the whole debacle about him. when he should of been greatful of being able to serve cricket with the stint he had.
