I got into cricket when the West Indies were the best in the world. It was like watching Marshall, watching Joseph, charging in and totally dominating. Remarkable story. Would love to see the Windies really competing again.

It wasn't just a one man show, he only got 1 wicket in the first innings and the batting had to recover from 64-5 on day 1. It was a team effort built around Shemar Joseph. And WI took all their catches, some of them not straightforward

Well not true. DaSilva and Hodge partnership helping team to get to 311. Roach and Alzarri reducing Oz to 24/4 in first innings. Knocks by McKenzie and Athanaze second innings. Roach and A. Joseph taking initial wickets. S. Joseph running through. Good catches. Good fielding. Team effort

I am from Guyana, I swear to god I have no idea where baracara is where(that’s how small and secluded it is) . We used to play with green guavas, tennis balls and electric tape is pretty expensive. The West Indies has so much talent all we need is a good injection of money to boost the management. Also the West Indies is set up very different from other international playing nations. It’s a bunch of islands with Guyana being there own nations then the selectors pick between those guys, issue is you have to fly by plane from island to island, it’s not like you can drive from lords to Trent bridge by car.

Come on boys you can’t say WI win down to just Joesph, without the Hodge and De Silva partnership in the first innings, wickets from Alzari Joesph and Roach in Australia’s first innings, even McKenzie and Athenaze made useful contributions with the bat 2nd innings,it was a team effort to win that test match, plus it was the best WI fielding team they have had for a long time.

Yours (and Gideon's) point about test cricket and the lack of creativity and laziness behind pushing the format is bang on.
I'm English, and I know there's been a lot of shit dished out about Bazball and "reinventing the game". BUT - out of Ben Stokes' 19 games captaining England, there has only been one draw.
The majority of the other games have presented huge entertainment value and have been highly memorable (compare this to rarely memorable white ball games). There is a product there to market, but it needs the equitable funding across the different boards to thrive. Not to mention the stupidity of 2-test series. Surely there should only be 3 or 5-test series.
I grew up watching test cricket in the halcyon late 90s/early 00s days when it seemed like nearly every team was strong and had numerous players now considered all time greats. I long for the day that test cricket is given top priority, like it was back then. Maybe it will never come.

interestingly in England - English test cricket is ALWAYS a sell out. Been to loads of games and unless it's pissing it down (maybe 50% of the time) you're lucky to get tickets. So what is it England has over others in terms of enjoying Test cricket the most? Baz ball certainly helps, remember the west indies series over there and it was awful, maybe if that type of test cricket had continued we wouldn't be selling out now, but honestly 'Baz' ball has made such a big difference. Watching the West Indies vs Aus highlights (as a proper England fan) and listening to the Aus commentators rightly go nuts for Smith's reverse scoop for 6, made me realise we've got used to that nearly EVERY over. I remember Kwuardja (sorry for spelling) dominate in the opening Ashes test, and all I could think was gosh must be boring being an Aus fan, just wanted him to get on with it. He did brilliantly but reminded me what old test cricket used to be like. If England goes away from Baz ball you'll probably have me starting to look at IPL etc. as well...

That first test at Lords when Cummins and Lyons put on 70runs or so for the 9th wicket. Eng shouldn’t have lost.
The 2nd test England lost by 40odd, with the notorious Bairstow run out, England shouldnt have lost.

Half of the West Indies team were made up of young guys who have played 1 or 2 tests and they were absolutely stoked to play against Australia. The batting with Hodge, Greaves, and McKenzie looked excellent with a straight bat. Their fielding was near perfect. I hope the West Indies administrators and selectors, leave this team unchanged when they tour England and invest in younger, talented players that want to play tests.

The pitches are not good for batting . Australia hasn’t had too many centuries over the last year but the opposition has had even fewer centuries . Time for the pitches to return to their original status eg Adelaide good batting wicket , Perth true and fast , Sydney a spinning wicket etc . Otherwise we are in for a lot of three day tests

That’s the power of the shitty drop in wickets

Umm. Pfft. About time. Pitches in older times ALWAYS had something in it for bowlers so batsman actually LEARNED the skill of batting. Then we went to flat pitches where bowlers became cannon fodder. There should ALWAYS be an EVEN contest between bat and ball. Batsmen need to regain the ART of BATSMANSHIP.

@@michaelmaxwell2464 True . Even helmets havd lowered skill levels . Bradman had to play on uncovered wickets , green tops , sticky wickets , just pads , gloves and a box . That is true greatness

I'll be very upset if a 2 day minefield isn't prepared for the Vizag Test……………

Ass an England fan it will be minefield a Bunsen burner a rank turner. What ever you want to say its turning square from ball one. Because this wicket was relatively flat and so India will over do the spin next match to try and win. Just like in 2021 we won the first test on a road root got 200 then next test it spun square and we lost inside 2 days. So whom ever you follow don’t worry we will lose in Vizag that’s a fact.

@@jacklowe3037 Fact of the matter, Do you guys really watch cricket? Do you understand it?.
If you do know anything about cricket, you must know the statistics, how many wickets lost to a turning ball than the ball that didn't turn at all? This stat was published over and over again by commentators when England visited India the last time and crashed like pack of cards.
Jadeja has always picked up majority of his wicket for a ball that comes straight at you, and so is Ashwin. And that's exactly Axar did in last Ind, England series in India, just look at how many he got bowled.
And final one- Do you know who is Anil Kumble- He is the highest wicket taker for India in Test. He never spun the ball, not even by a damn degree. Classified as a leg spinner and often joked about a leg spinner but never spun. He was constantly compared to Shane Warne to make fun of him but Anil Kumble stuck to his method. He got 619 wickets without turning the ball by any FKNG margin.
Bottomline is, it doesn't matter what india produces, rank turner or rank seamer or a road. Indian spinner strength to get wickets is the ball that comes straight at you and you play for a turn or something and then get out in weird ways.
Finally, A wise man said, Attack is the best defence. And that is why attacking a spinner is always a better option than making a nest in your crease and get trapped. Maxwell once slapped Ashwin for 31 runs in an over, it may looks cheeky but that is your best chance to counter spin that you don't understand.
And that is why Bazzball is your best chance to get you over the line.
