    • @samwheaton8591

@@samwheaton8591, I was not aware that there was a desire within the Australian fanbase to see a more attacking style of play. If true, that’s great news.
The whole premise of ‘Bazzball’ (other than to cover up England’s own deficiencies) is to encourage other teams to play in a similar style to rejuvenate test cricket. I truly hope it works.
As for the pitches… I can’t disagree, but they all do it, including Australia.

The contrast between Higgo's raw, vulnerable pain and inability to give real credit without a little dig, and Pez's more cerebral, objective acknowledgement of the inevitability of Bazball was quite stark in this one. I agree with Pez that a day like this has been coming, if England could slightly recalibrate the balance of risk-reward shot-making, and that's what they were able to do today. Targeting Cummins was particularly inspired, because it heavily impacted the best bowler and the captain in one go, and paid huge dividends.

After Edgbaston, Bazball and Englands gung-ho approach was mocked. Fortunately a more pragmatic approach has seeped into the England Psyche and this test is finally evidence of it. However, in the context of the ebb and flow of this series that was brutal and exhilarating and unexpected. 178 runs in a session is not something you see everyday and it came about because of the platform Mo and Zak created by working the ball for singles and refusing to hook. Not going to lie I thought Zak was going to fall to any ball pitched wide of off stump. He rode his luck and the Aussies stopped with the tactic because of the flood of runs. Stokes will be disappointed now if they can’t post a 200 run lead.

Day 3 clears up by start of the afternoon session so we’ll get two sessions.
Day 4 looks a write off.
Day 5 looks to be improving. We’ll see.

Cummins reminds me of an under 14 captain I once played under who came into bat and spooned a catch first ball to mid off, and then when fielding, stumbled over his own feet twice when losing the flight of two balls that should have been catches. Wheb a cricket team realises it is a losing under 14 side captained by a dunce who has no concept of strategy or nause it can be quite dispiriting. Sad to watch.

I wanna see Lance Morris in the team. Everyones talking about how Wood is blasting the Australians, let's give it back to them. Hazelwood got wickets today but I reckon he's way off his best form of 18 months ago. Fly Agar out there as well in case we need a spinner I think he's the best back up for Lyon, experienced, can bat and he's awesome in the field. Let's try opening with Mitch Marsh in the last test seeings we'll be taking the Ashes home anyway thanks to the English weather.

Cummins doesnt seem to fancy Green with the ball much does he. Sadly i think this will be a 3 day test and i can't see us bowling you out in 2 sessions tomorrow

It’s so frusterating to watch green get given a few overs to bowl line and length and look really threatening and clearly Cummins says okay now bouncers

    • @robvenus1983
      @robvenus1983 Před rokem +1

@@samwheaton8591 it's odd, having a real A grade all rounder is the biggest asset a team can have. Green's clearly class but how can he kick on and grow into a top international player if his captain doesn't trust him. Haven't been impressed by Cummins captaincy at all, maybe time to look at an alternative. Should have given it to smith a few years back but I think that ship has sailed

Won't lie, I have been enjoying this one. It's a bit shoe on the other foot for some of us. Also loving the amount of English comments going in. What I would like to give a nod to is almost every Aussie on the field shook Zak's hand, that sportsmanship and respect should be recognised. Also, while Pat and co are going to be tired at this point, you feel like Steve, Marnus and Travis are either going to go big at some point or start looking for coaching jobs. Can we keep a lid on them for one more game?

I was too buggered yesterday and gave up on the cricket early, one of the very few times I haven't stuck it out. Looks like a I picked a good night to go to bed early. Fucken hell. This one's gone on its ear. Only the weather can save us now. Based on what I've heard I'm not sure we deserve saving.
Imagine the pressure that's on David Warner now. If he gets out cheaply in the second dig his time in the team is over. If ever there was a time we need him to step up this is it.

I said this at the start of your series coverage that it will come down to England bowlers staying fit and having a wicket that isn't just a dead track. They struggled to bowl out Australia on pitches worthy of the sub continent (perhaps they thought as they could do it in Pakistan they could do it against the Aussies who are a far better team), but now they're finally getting a fair cricket pitch their bowlers can show their skills. It's England. Play to your strengths.

To be fair this felt like the teenage bazball has matured into how effective we all knew bazball could be. This was the same thing done right. No English batter chucked away their wicket. It started slowly and then went nuts. That's when bazball works. This is what England should've been doing. Always play yourself in and then go crazy.

Agree totally that this has been coming. I said before the series that it at some point the England bats will get hold of us and today it happened. The only surprise was how long it took. As a neutral it's thrilling stuff, but as an actual Aussie fan I'm praying for three days of rain.
