I think the whole ‘pitch’ issue is a matter of degrees. Every senior cricket nation prepares pitches under some influence of their home side’s management and players. It’s really case of how extreme this becomes. There are no proper guidelines or protocols. Every nation makes it up as they go along. The authorities need to start providing clearer guidance rather than just fining countries who fail to meet standards. There needs to be more education and regulation. IMHO

There are fairly defined rules its more just that due to the corruption discussed in this vid, its hard to really come down on repeated offences. India are basically designed as a cricketing institution to find loopholes around this.

Love the show as always .. just a couple of points I can’t quite agree with. 1. I wouldnt call the pitches resulting in a lottery result as if that was the case india wouldnt be winning >90% of the games at home when they prepare the pitch to suit thier strengths. 2. The english conditions with a dukes ball makes it very alien conditions for most south asian teams.. Why don’t we ever discuss not using Dukes ball as it can be unplayable in the first 15/20 overs of the test.? However as an india fan, i would never find myself blaming English conditions, instead I always want my team to improve to tackle english/aussie conditions.. which india has done well to a great degree in recent history.
The only issue i really have with india preparing these extremely spin friendly pitches it that i feel India will become complacent and end up with results like 3rd test. Which despite being india fan, I was kinda glad they got a stung by thier own trick.
Keep up the good work! Love all your videos.

Preparing bad pitches started under Ravi Shastri.
The first instance was in 2015 against South Africa.
    Then against England in 2021.
Anil Kumble was the coach for 1 year in the middle. During that period India played 3 home series in the 2016-17 home season.
We played 3 Tests against New Zealand, 5 Tests vs England and 4 Tests against Australia on some good pitches (except for Pune) and ended up winning 3-0, 4-0 & 2-1 respectively. The only Test we lost was against Australia on a rank turner in Pune.
Kumble was removed because Kohli wanted his yes-man Shastri back and we went back to preparing dust bowls in 2021 again.
I was not surprised to see these pitches under a Shastri who was a mediocre cricketer himself but I am very very disappointed to see these pitches under Dravid.

With pitches, another angle that needs to be explored is that India now feels comfortable with England and Australia throwing green, seaming, bouncy wickets at them. Given they have kind of outgrown their fears over playing at such wickets, but Australia and England (and SA) haven't, India tries to maximise their home advantage knowing they can't be much worse off going overseas anymore. Power and mind games!
My question though is.. Day 2 of the Indore Test match was pulsating! The cat and mouse chase and the thrill of India possibly setting a decent 4th innings target was real. Inspite of the pitch, I enjoyed the test match! Purely from the angle, it was a fun test. We need tests to remain fun. Can't we let India be an exception? Why does every test need to last for 4 day or more? There are so many layers to this obviously.. I am just looking at the positive here.

Honestly great to listen to Guha’s insights, agree with most of it. But I think it is only fair to point out guhas blatant bias (all in good faith as everyone is biased one way or the other) so here goes :-
    1) Guha says that modi and shah have ingressed into cricket the most out of any politician. Completely false as Sharad pawar ( congress leader )( who I’m sure is good friends with guha) had to literally be pushed out of 2007 wc celebrations by Ricky pointing , surely everyone has seen that embarrassing video. Another case is of Rajiv shukla who sticks to the bcci like a termite even after his party being out of power for so many years
    2) only fair argument here is that there’s a kind of bipartisan consensus between the parties to be involved in cricket
    3) on the naming of stadium after politicians ( which I absolutely hate ) Guha fails to mention about the hundreds of stadiums in this country named after the Gandhi dynasty who again I’m sure r good friends with guha.
    4) I’m not really sure how u can make a political rally out of a cricket match that Guha alludes to , it’s not like he’s going to give a speech . Only fair that he steps in a stadium that was his brainchild.(but again shouldn’t have been named after him )

Ram Guha is a talented author. I have loved the 3 books that I've read so far. Absolutely agree with him on this ticket issue, and I hope the separate booth helped some fans. But he has a political bias and his jibes in name of cricket are very uncharitable of him. To use the comparison of one of the most terrible persons in human history, with a current leader of a country elected by millions. Comparison to Saddam Hussein and the Kim dynasty may be his personal preference, but I bet he is misleading people that the PM has himself gone and named the stadium after himself. I personally would've waited for his political career to get over and then the stadium named after him, and I think the nomenclature has always been involved in India to honour past contributors to State Associations, however, I will not make the jibes and the comparisons to the infamous men from the past.
To his statement "political involvement has never been so visible", one only needs to look at the parallel years when Sharad Pawar was both the Union Minister and very influential in the BCCI, as well as later in the MCA. Current opposition politician from Congress, Rajiv Shukla has also been a long part of the BCCI. Just because someone is the son of a prominent politician, doesn't mean you cannot work anywhere significant.
He blamed the IPL for everything. Without the IPL, would have never heard of players like Siraj, Gaikwad, Samson, Pant, Bumrah, Pandya, Sundar, and Natarajan. If not for IPL, we would have 4 players from Mumbai, 3 from Delhi, and 1 each from Karnataka, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab/Saurashtra. It has given opportunities to so many young cricketers who before IPL would make nothing for the amount of talent they showed in first-class cricket. IPL employs people but it never holds down its commentators, they have criticised players and all, and even now Haydos called Indore's pitch rubbish and zero backlash was there.
About Gavaskar, maybe Mr. Guha failed to highlight that he criticized Virat Kohli when he was in poor form, and the lack of temperament by Rishabh Pant in crucial scenarios. Nationalism as Mr Guha paints it in a bad light, is only a dirty word in Europe, and it is not wrong to hope your country is at the top, but India never said it needs to be top at the expense of others. I am pretty sure Rama Guha would've enjoyed the test at Sonia Gandhi Stadium as Sonia Gandhi being the PM, and nobody would mind and they shouldn't have.
I like the in-house broadcasting of the BCCI as it helps to maintain several IPs and the board can use content and better promote itself. It is just like the UFC and WWE who have proved that in-house broadcasting is workable.

@@theconservativeone2690 There is no problem in preparing turning tracks every country has a right to home advantage. Yes there have been a few three days test wickets and we probably should move away from them but the whole hue and cry about India running the world cricket on its whims is ridiculous.

For me the pitch debate isn't about home advantage. It's about spectacle. Test matches unique in being a 5 day format. Pitch should be prepared accordingly. Consistent 2.5 day tests across different touring sides suggest that the wickets aren't sporting. As you say, luck /skill ratio is off with these wickets and they become boring to watch after the novelty of wicket gluttony wears off

As an Indian Christian, in my opinion, Modi has been a very balanced Prime Minister. Yes he is a hindu nationalist
But that is not necessarily a bad thing.
India has always been the land of Dharmic culture and Sanatan Dharma. So it is only normal that the PM of this country upholds that culture.
My only major issue with BJP( not Modi) is their obsession with promotion of hindi to make it a lingua franca which will make south Indians feel betrayed as little effort is being made to teach Tamil and other south indian languages amongst the northern states
Lol Modi is definitely not like hitler
That Ramachandra guha is one mad fellow 😂
I hope Modi wins next time 😊

Looks like boys got sledged a bit too much on this Indian trip. Too much of pitch talk boys and to bring home the point you find Ramachandra Guha? There is a reason why he is quite a divisive figure on Indian social media. Hope you get off these tactics and get back to what made this channel fun to watch. There was no humour today. Only ramblings. Australia got 200 on it and then 70 plus for 1 so cant be that bad? I remember green Sydney pitch from 2000 or India getting bowled out for 100 and 66 whilst South Africa got just 200 plus in first innings themselves at Durban in 1997. All the talk at the time was about how poor Indian batsmen were against pace bowling. This was the time when India didn't have 3 proper pace bowlers on the team sheet. So to brush it all aside with just 1 Perth match does not cut with Indian supporters.
Get over it. Australia got rolled over in Australia and they will get rolled over in final test and then again in that final in England. :) #AskTGC

As an Indian I am pleased that boiss hosted Mr Guha. Very few Indians are talking the truth abt cricket nowadays on the record. I feel cringe when I watch cricket on Indian channels. Especially Star channels. These star guys ran a shit segment at some point in the past which was called 'Super V' showing Kohli's cartoon avatar as a superhero between innings breaks of matches. Wtf? And from that point Virat Kohli's form started declining.

Can't they use Hawkeye data to decide whether the pitches are substandard or not. Looking at degree of spin, seam movement, evenness of bounce, and pace etc and then rate it according to that. Excessive degree of spin from day 1 will result low scoring games and shouldn't be allowed in test cricket.
Pace and bounce in Australia is even and consistent through the course of 5 days generally (occasional exceptions when cracks appear at the WACA etc), seam movement is minimal as well - but that's why its not a fair comparison to say Australia does the same. We haven't had the famously fast pitches in recent series against India anyway either - they've all been flat roads.
Seam and swing in England and South Africa are occasionally excessive as well like Trent Bridge 2015 for example but the difference is they flatten out as the pitch gets dryer after that initial difficult period
