    Here’s the contents of the letter.
    “Dear son,
    There’s only one thing I know about life. I know some things happen by chance. And some things happen because we make them happen. Barry Allen was once haunted by the past. But when he became the Flash, he left the ghosts behind. He found love, a family. And for the first time ever…friends. Barry thought yesterday was behind him…but somebody wouldn’t let him escape it.
    When Barry came to me for help, I turned him away. I’m not the hero of this story. I’m a man who’s been corrupted by his own unbearable pain. I’m a man who has too much blood on his hands to be called good. Your friend taught me we can’t only live a life for those we’ve lost. We have to live a life for those we still have.
    If I got a second chance, I would hope I’d come to understand that. To live that…like you should, Bruce. That’s all parents want for their children. What we never had. Your mother and I want you to be happy. Promise me you’ll try. And I will too…wherever I am.
    Love always,
    your father - Thomas Wayne.”

    These animated movies are literally some of the most underrated superhero content. Isn't it just delicious hollywood irony, when the competent and mature version of a film, is the one from a medium seen as "childish" in the same industry?

    • @chrissolace

      Honestly the general consensus on DC is that the animated movies are fantastic and the live action ones (in general) are subpar at best.

      Because they actually take comics seriously whereas Hollywood sees any form of media not either another show/movie or a book as inherently childish. Even when TLOU got an adaptation that blew everyone's minds the media were still acting like the game was a childish IP and Hollywood "turned" it dark and serious, when the game is still the better version of the story.

      The animation director wants to adapt the story from the comic to the screen but Hollywood directors have an ego and want to "leave their mark" on the story and characters without realising that people want the comic story and they aren't as good as they like to think they are.
      Add to that execs and test audiences who might not be the proper target for the movie.

  • @billbill6094
    @billbill6094 Před 9 dny +8

    Reverse Flash can't really be killed, he's messed with time so often and became the cause of so many effects that led to him and effectively erased his own existence multiple times by traveling to another time so he never stops existing just because there was no cause to create him that he essentially exists outside of time. Like it's crazy how convoluted his existence and their battles become, technically Barry was the lightning bolt that gave him his own powers because of it.
    His hatred of Barry ties them so strongly that he's admitted he was the cause of every source of bad luck that Barry's ever had, like literally every time he tripped and skinned a knee or was tardy for class that was Reverse Flash' doing just to be petty (That was me, Barry. I jerked you off at superspeed so it seemed like you came from only a woman's touch!) He doesn't kill Flash either, especially not young Flash, because he's the _only_ thing tying RF to existence now.
    In DC, unlike Marvel, the universes reset ever so often. Crisis on Infinite Earths and Flashpoint are the two most popular examples of it. This led into The New 52 era starting 2011, so the next movies in this universe are adaptations of those stories. There are adaptatioms of more classic stories mixed in as well, because the New 52 didn't completely abandon original canon, there was a theme of if a new comic nentioned an old one, it was still a canon story in the new universe.

  • @J__T
    @J__T Před 8 dny +4

    A couple things:
    Firstly, Flashpoint is the first in the _DCAMU_ which is different from the DCAU which is the Justice League Unlimited / BTAS / Batman Beyond franchise. Flashpoint kicks off J. L. War and everything else within that pack you showed, and yes it is a lot of movies.
    Secondly, Flash actually travels across 3 timelines and you can tell because Batman's suit actually changes from blue to black. This explains that the whole DCAMU is solely contained within the movie pack and thus you get to see the beginning to the end. Something I quite often think about in regards to this film is that original, movie opener Batman is wearing blue which usually denotes him having a Robin. This is strange to think about because when Flash meets Thomas Wayne or even just enters Wayne manor, he doesn't call out for a Robin. It likely can't be Jason as after Jason's death Batman stopped wearing blue until Tim Drake showed up. It could be either Dick or Tim, or it could be someone else entirely; the last option almost makes the most sense as both 1st & 3rd Robins should've known Flash. I just always wonder which Robin existed in Flashpoint's original timeline. Even moreso since there's now a Robin in the Thomas Wayne comics.

  • @ricochet1351
    @ricochet1351 Před 8 dny +15

    The fact that Barry's suit is slightly different after he saves the timeline is an excellent way of showing that things aren't technically the same as they were. In the New 52, some heroes are even stronger or weaker than their old multiverse counterparts, or their powers work differently altogether. It shows that once you've changed the past, it'll never be the exact same, even if you undo the change you caused perfectly.

    In the comics, the Amazons don't have this many supernatural monsters as part of their army. Pegasi, unicorns, magical kangaroos yes, but not a cerberus or minotaur looking thing. My guess is that either Flashpoint-Wonder Woman has been subjugating monsters to build up her forces as a warlord, or some of her usual enemies (Ares or Circe) are supporting her with a levy of their own troops. It makes sense since Flashpoint-Aquaman teamed up with his villains that she might do the same, and Ares would love to have a stake on a conflict like this.

    I know Joe talked about wanting things to look the same. All of those were part of an animated DC world that all interconnected. Movies like Batman: Year One, Batman Dark Knight Returns were just meant as one offs. Fun to do and not really connected.
    They brought this animated world to an end (there's lots of reasons why) and started a new animated world with Superman: Man of Tomorrow. These are the current animated films since mid to late 2020.

    Thawne comes from the future so he time travels a lot and he's actually the best at time traveling among all speedsters in the comics, when Barry was traveling back to save his mom Thawne was also doing the same thing and since Barry change the timeline while Thawne was outside of it he became a living paradox, Thawne had became a being whithout a past, present or future, he actually dies several times in the comics but he always comes back because he's the only being that doesn't have any continuity

    So a bit of backstory on the source material of this movie.
    “Flashpoint” is a 2011 story written by Geoff johns that is a semi-sequel to “Flash Rebirth: the return of Barry Allen” and it was suppose to be a regular time traveling adventure with Barry but DC decided to reboot their universe (again) after 25 years of continuity, to import all their vertigo & wildcats characters into the main universe, and to gain new readers leading to the NEW 52 era. So “flashpoint” would be the catalyst of the new reboot universe. (Later on it would be confirm that there were other in-lore factors were involved with the reboot)
    The New 52 continuity would end up being successful (with Batman, justice league, & Wonder Woman) yet controversial at the same time (with Superman, teen titans, & green arrow).
    This movie in particular was originally just an adaptation for “flashpoint” but WB took it a step further and create a series of movies (about 15 movies) set in a continuity fans dubbed “the new 52 movie universe” or the DCAMU that starts with Justice league: War and ends with Justice League Dark: apocalypse war.
    The monster on the boat when death stroke & the Atlanteans were fighting was Clayface.
    The one with blonde hair & red mask is grifter from wildcats. Created by Jim Lee who would later bring his characters to DC.
    The laser eye helmet man working for aquaman is Black manta. A full human mercenary Typically aquaman’s arch enemy.
    Also Aquaman looks a lot like Brock lesnar.

    Reverse Flash is straight up one of the most psychotic and sadistic villains in comics as the man is perhaps the most pettiest villains imaginable. This man is time traveller from the future and was once the biggest Flash fan but found out that in the future his destiny was predetermined to be his heroes greatest enemy, and no matter what he did to change his future, it ultimately lead to him becoming a living paradox, a being outside of time, with no past, present or future and all he has is his connection to Barry Allen via the time stream and how he uses the Speed Force. As such Thawne made it his life's mission to make sure he ruins Barry Allens life, literally going back in time multiple times to Barry's childhood to push him down the stairs as a kid, erase his childhood best friend from history, kill his childhood dog, and Reverse Flash was actually the person who canonically kill Barry's mom... all just so he could f*** with The Flash. Thawne is literally every bad day Barry has ever had.

  • @dannybob42
    @dannybob42 Před 6 dny

    And this is why the Flash is adverse to using his super speed to change time.
    Flashpoint was a massive butterfly effect comic event, where many of the DC heroes' lives lead a different path of life. Much of the legacy of Flashpoint lives on still in comics, Thomas Wayne's Batman has appeared a few times (sometimes from an evil timeline, Martha Wayne's Joker had a bit more in the comics but she died) and the letter he sent left another unique item that set up another big crossover event, it was also a way for DC to soft reboot the universe into the 'New 52', which like most 'new' iterations didn't quite have the same popularity as the original.
    Barry's origin is quite airtight, but at the same time it's worth pointing out that Barry is the _second_ Flash. The original Flash was Jay Garrick, the Flash is also a whole family of heroes too, Barry's successor and current Flash is Wally West, who was said by Barry himself to be the fastest of them all.
    Oh there are comics and movies of Vampire Batman this just isn't one of them. Vampires and Zombies ended up being big comic events for Marvel (Zombies and Blood Hunt) and DC (DCeased and DC vs Vampires) in the past few years.
    Steve Trevor is one of Wonder Woman's primary love interests, which is why it's visceral that she just ups and hangs him with the Lasso of Truth. More brutal is just gutting a child! Billy is the main Shazam but Shazam (aka Captain Marvel, until of course Marvel went into dispute) is actually a group of heroes, Flashpoint shifted it that rather than individuals they all Captain Planet it.
    Not Aqualad is Garth aka Tempest, he was Aqualad for a bit too, usual Aquaman enemies Black Manta and Ocean Master were also there. We also had Clayface and Vixen on Luthor's side in the battle between Atlantis and Luthor's guard. 'Lava Guy' is Captain Atom (not to be confused with The Atom, who is like Ant Man in that he shrinks), an insanely overpowered hero, like Atom Eve levels. The Green Lantern in the box is the Lantern that crashes to Earth and finds Hal Jordan, giving him his power ring so he can become Green Lantern.
    Grifter is different to Red Hood, he's part of the WildC.A.T.s, DC acquired his IP (same with Captain Atom, different IPs though), they had a tv show in the 90s.

    There are 3 timelines in this movie.
    The movie starts in the original timeline where the Justice League is at their peak, being awesome and heroic.
    Then Barry saves his mom, creating the bad timeline where most of the rest of the movie takes place.
    Then Barry stops himself from changing the past, but as Thawne explained, the mere act of traveling through time creates distortions so even though Barry undid his original change there were things that were still altered when he broke the time barrier which brings us to the 3rd timeline where the movie ends and the rest of the movies in the DCAMU continuity take place. The ending scene chronologically takes place towards the end of the DCAMU series.

    I believe the comics source of The Flashpoint Paradox has a series on Thomas Wayne becoming Batman. His wife, Martha, went mad after the death of their son and became the Flashpoint world's version of the Joker. There's apparently another timeline where Thomas became Batman when both his son and wife were killed.
