5DEV or FauxDEV cranks?

- So there I was looking at 5Dev cranks and was kind of leery because of the price tag. I thought, hey why don't I check AliExpress! Type in 5Dev cranks and... sure enough there was a clone!
Now I've had really good luck with my Goldix short cranks so I was more willing to give this a try. They looked similar so what the hell. Bam, purchased.
I've been on a shorter MTB crank quest for a few months now and this might be the final evolution. Or will it?
Yeah, this is interesting and I think maybe the reviews I read were lies...

These knockoffs are the a joke, hope this gets likes and shares 👍
Yeah and honestly, I think for some they can be dangerous too.
@@VisionMTB oddly enough, a knockoff can be better because the offset could actually be better for some riders😂
We knew they were gonna be trash. For the price of the fakes you could actually get a set of say deore cranks that you could actually trust your life with. the play in the fakes sounded horrendous. Well done for exposing this garbage
It was honestly shocking how bad they were. The cheaper cranks like Goldix are light years ahead in quality compared to these.
Would have liked to see the actual knock-offs on your bike, and ridden.
Yeah I'm not sure I'm comfortable riding with them. There really is a lot of play, no exaggerating here.
Don’t buy knockoffs. It condones fraud, reinforces criminal behavior and hurts the real manufacturer, and yourself too when they break.
I completely agree. Unfortunately someone is selling them on eBay now too. I reported it so we'll see what happens.
I tore the pedal threads out of some SRAM s300s in 2.5 years about a month ago. Did the same thing to the same crank took a little longer before that. The real cranks are garbage too if you stand up pedal. I finally went back to just using Sugino RD2s because I know at least those are forged well and are stiff.
@___Bebo___ those are their very cheapest cranks. That said, standing up in pedals has no effect on ripping threads out of cranks. I'm also really surprised such a primadonna as you would ride such inexpensive cranks since you said you stick to American made quality😂 Did you keep the dinky 48t stock chainring on them too Mr Deadlift? They're also not square taper which you claimed to stick to. *Those Sugino cranks aren't made in the US either. They're also absolutely flexy cranks too, and square taper only makes them flexier you "watt behemoth"
@@veganpotterthevegan Good post, I just got back from riding I will address this later.
@@veganpotterthevegan I have a lot of bikes and a lot of parts to start off, like way too many. I have 2 main bikes I ride most of the time. The first one is for the afternoon when cars are on the road. It's 130 BCD with Sugino RD2 right now and 2 rim brakes. This bike is for going like 16-20 MPH with cars on the road and all of the parts on it are super compliant and comfortable. The other bike is for nighttime with very little traffic, this bike is a lot stiffer, bigger gear ratio to go 20-25MPH, Sugino 75 cranks right now, no brakes.
The 130 BCD bike I ride at about 100-120 RPM for fitness and VO2 reasons, the 144 BCD bike is around 75-85 RPM to work the leg and knee strength a little more.
I don't really "stick to" any Bottom Bracket standard. My best bottom bracket bike is a T47i Titanium custom cruiser bike. I don't really like this bike very much because it just feels slow and is kinda slow. It's slack and heavy like a mountain bike with wide tires, just don't like it.
I have Bottom Bracket standards I don't like and will avoid. I was running American made steel BMX cranks for a long time but they are heavy so I just went back to Sugino 75s.
Why would you buy anything from anywhere with the assumption that they are knock offs, especially from Aliexpress.
Not everything there is trash, sometimes you get lucky.
Why would you assume they are knockoffs being from Ali? You’re really asking that?
So your GENUINE 5 DEV product just cost you 100.00 more... 😂
Shame on them.
In Norway customs might stop the package. And will contact the rights owner, then they notify the recipient, but I risk not getting the goods.
But if I got it and then sold it it would be illegal. So I can't sell fakes. I rather buy second hand or cheaper cranks. I scored cranks on sale and second hand.
Yeah I hope they can put an end to this.
I've seen enough legit cranks from them fail that I wouldn't want a legit pair either
@@veganpotterthevegan I forgot to mention this issue. I've seen it too. No thx. Cheaper and solid cranks exist. Maybe the sort the issue out maybe not. I will stay away. But let's see how his cranks hold up.
@mtbboy1993 my roommate had one fail doing a relatively easy 4' drop after having his for a few weeks. This was on a 140/150 travel Santa Cruz. It cracked and bent. We were able to partially straighten it out and he soft pedaled home. He just wanted his money back instead of a replacement. I don't blame him
@@veganpotterthevegan Wise choice. This is why I wait a long time and research.
wish know is that strong
I cant understand, why people are always buying this crap for the own bikes. We have only ONE life and we sell that to the hell to save some $, € oder any currency? I would NEVER drive a bike with such parts. If I dont have the money, I will save it over moths and buy good and safe parts, and I can get home after work ALIVE.
Not to mention the crimes of product piracy.
100% right
wow, we only have one life????? how do you know?
I would try the cranks for sure! But I know Jesus as my Lord and Savior already....so if the cranks ended up literally ending this temporary life in this vapor of time.....God gets to give ma a body built in glory.....and then my wife would get a decent payoff for my life insurance and wouldn't have to pay someone to off me...ya' know...the whole til death part of marriage. 😅🤣😂
Unpopular opinion but when you're charging indecently high prices for aluminium cranks that's what you get 😂
Company like that maybe don't deserve to be ripped off but wouldn't give them a cent either ...
You should try the 20$ wolftooth deopper remote 💩
Just buy from a different brand if u think the price is too high, but dont go with a chinese knockoff.
5Dev are expensive but they are almost handmade. At the very least R&D and the CNC equipment costs have to be recouped.
There's no benefit in strength with CNC machining vs cast. 5Dev makes a nice looking crank but it's no stronger than a cheap SRAM SX. $500+ is a lot to pay for some jewelry to put on your bike.
@@WinstonBehle lol u think a crank is jewelry...
@@WinstonBehle There's some truth to the jewelry comment for sure.
