As much as it sucks to be power limited like that, I personally LOVE the versatility of USB C, so it's a limitation I'm willing to live with since it's more than powerful enough for my needs. Personally as a Alienware fan and user (2014 15r2 i7 4720hq) I must say the upgraded CPU, thermals, hinge, and thunderbolt port fascinate me. The whole draw of an Alienware system to me is that it is the ultimate portable desktop. As such it must have all ports and must have the big stuff, or so I was led to believe in 2014. I used the laptop until recently as my daily driver with the AW EGPU running a 1070ti however that was always maxed at 66%. I move a lot about 4 times a year so having the "reduced performance" of a 970m is way better than using a crappy Microsoft Surface (also have one of these Surface Laptop 2, its great but only as a 2nd device) because I don't have to change anything. I just unplug and go, my data is there ready. The main downside of my Alienware 15 r2 is that it runs way too hot, causing the cpu fan to fail atleast once or twice a year which requires a complete dissassembly, and the cpu is just not good enough to push frames of a rtx card and the pcie x4 limitation of the graphics amp was extremely frustrating. I just finished building a desktop with similar internals but having no thermal or port based limitations on this newer machine is cool. I will save up and buy it :D Personally I dont care about the rtx 3060 as putting a 3070 or higher would just make it fatter. This device screams dock mode on, dock it and have everything neatly plugged in on one side, I hated having to run wires on the left and right side of my R2.

Compared to all other computers in the same size Alienware x14 is the best. I took a month to read and watch everything and to compare and I've just got mine. Almost 10 mouths after its released it is still the best out there. That's the only one with thuderbolt 4 and there is 2 ports! The only one with hdmi 2.1. The only 14" one that weight under 4 pounds and no need for a big power suply who often weight more than the laptop. It is less that 2/3 pound more compare to surface pro 9 with keybord and power suply and surface have no gaming card. Who care if cant change my memory? I have DDR5 5200mhz 32gb and no need for more to work or gaming. The M.2 ssd is the fastest gen 4 on the market and you can upgrade it but 2tb is enough for me and there is also a microSD slot and usb C and A ports for dock, usb keys or external drives. The rtx 3060 is far better then the 3050ti for rog flow z13 or x13 and the screen is larger. And on benchmark the difference between that and the 3070 in other laptop of the same size is negligible. Yes some have better card but without givin enough power to use it well. Playing at 1080p AAA games with maxout is not a problem at all. Intel i7 12 th gen is way better for me than amd, for thudebolot 4 of course but for way more. Speaking of that with thuderbolt 4 you can run a EGPU with external display with a very small difference compared to the same gpu in a destop. I can charge it on all ports. It's the best laptop ever made for travelling and the battery have a great autonomy if you dont play heavy aaa games. Wifi 6E blutooth 5.2. Also with PS Plus and Nvidia GeFOrce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming who need a rtx 3090ti in his laptop? Welcome to 2022! Anyway i have massive tower for that. There is no other competitor with the same stuff pack in so small computer. That laptop deserved at less 9/10 and with almost the half on the price for a Razor!

6/29/2002. I just received my X14 yesterday. This little guy is EXCELLENT for what it is. I have to say, I was weary after watching this video (and a couple others). Specifically because of your review of the speakers and the fan noise. To be perfectly clear, there is absolutely no issue with fan noise or the speakers. I mean the fans kick in when needed, of course, but i turned them all the way up manually and it's not a big deal. Very quiet compared to the review, unless you expect absolute silence ALL the time. But you won't see that in any system with a decent graphics card during gameplay at times. (Except for my Originpc 17" :))
I feel the speakers are very good for what this is. Turned all the way up, they sound great. Again, for what this is. Absolutely no issue. I bought this for strong PC performance with enough power to play some games at times on the go. Any concerns I had were totally dismissed after using this. Not to mention, the style of the laptop is golden. I understand that it's been 4 months since your review and either I got lucky (so far) or they worked out the bugs. Either way, I would highly recommend this little guy. Thank you for your review, It did sway me toward this purchase over others.
FYI I have the Intel 7 with the RTX 3060, 32 MB RAM and 2 GB Drive.

    As usual, great review Dave!
In my opinion, Alienware is trying to address the complaints that they have received on their bigger brothers (the X15 and the X17): heavy, bulky charger & poor battery life. They are offering this model to the young professionals (architect/3d modeler/engineer) who need a good laptop for their daily work/travel and require all of the missing ports on the XPS range.
XPS 13 seems like a good choice for those young professionals, but the lack of a dedicated GPU might stray them away. They can opt for the XPS 15 or XPS 17, but with only USB-C ports and no HDMI....there are other better laptops at that price range.
The Alienware X14 to me seems like a perfect balance especially for those young expatriates that need to constantly travel between HQ - Site Office and once in a month, back to their home country to visit their family. The omission of the rear RGB makes complete sense as these young professionals will require to be working in a corporate environment and sitting in a meeting with a more senior colleague. I can live with the rear audio jack as I'm already on my wireless headphones/earbuds and latency is not my issue, but to me, the only thing that does not make any sense with this laptop is the 720p webcam....come on, it's 2022!

an honest disclaimer here, I got the x14 and this is in no ways a bias opinion piece, bare with me,
i actually went ahead to buy the G14, although the 2021 model as where i live the 2022 models haven't been launched yet..i was looking at that 3060 with anime maxtrix, the laptop looks good, feels cheap, i don't know if that makes sense, it just doesn't feel like a rigid all-metal construction and there is chassis and especially display flex..on top of that, the laptop was lagging, i was in utter shock as this was in stark contrast to the youtube reviews...the salewoman said that after update to win 11 things will work perfect, but she didn't look that tech savvy or reliable to trust on this...
i came back and scavenged through the web, they are people complaining about the device especially on reddit and quora...and to put the nail on the coffin, the after sales service of asus is underwhelming....
considering all of this i had to change my mind and shell out way more for this laptop(x14 with 3050) which is not even as powerful as the g14 model I was eyeing, but dell has a better warranty support so yeah...
i loved the design too...but know this, in hand, it is not that great, not bad at all...and the 2021 models that are on sale now all have average displays...
if you can get the 2022 model for cheap, go for it by all means, but be aware of asus's pathetic customer service...in the event anything goes wrong..........

    - the wrist rest seems small. is it uncomfortable for doing extensive typing sessions?
    - I need smth that lasts me 6-7 years. what would its life span approximately end up being, in your opinion?
    - I am a college student so am looking to get the 3050 ti or just 3050 to save some money. would that configuration be able to handle games of the modern standard?
    - can this laptop handle copious amounts of school work while also being used to game?
    - whats the battery life like for productivity?
    - would u recommend this computer for people who are unsure if they want to commit to pc gaming but who also need smth high powered for school?
i apologise for asking so many questions but would really appreciate the help.
