- The Alienware x14 aims to be the lightest and thinnest gaming laptop of 2022 but does that make it the best? Well that's what I wanted to find out because there's other things to take into account like the Alienware x14 battery life, price and gaming performance of its RTX 3060.

Rtx 3060 for $1900??? No way, Dell is out of their minds.
So is Razer, Asus is the only way to go for the 14" segment
You still new to Alienware pricing I see.
I would suggest Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with RTX 3060 6GB and AMD Ryzen 5800H 16 or 32 GB RAM for the price.
I know, my G15 from last year is 5900HS, 16G, 1TB, better display and RTX 3070 for $1900.
Considering people have no problem paying $1900 for an XPS with a 3050, I’d say it’s not that big of a deal
The fact that there are many charts in this video shows that the creator really care and actually study about strengths and weaknesses of the laptop in comparison with other models at similar price range. I love that he also opens the laptop to show interior design as well. Thank you, good work!
Bought one of these the other day, got a £600 discount using the official Dell Outlet which I was very pleased with. Using it for gaming and UX design work. Really liking it so far, it's small and light and the design is great. Performance is really good and it's a lovely machine to use. Only criticism would be fan noise, as it's really loud, but I usually game with headphones so not too much of a problem.
Same thing for me, fan noise really surprised me, even on normal use, I even tried Intel XTU at the time (early 2022), but it did not work, I had to use the "quiet" profile when just browsing (not sure of the profile name, but the one that basically puts fan speed the lowest).
For the price of the top tier spec of this compared to what the G14 and Blade 14 offers, this is not worth it at all.
I dont care for the x14, but to be fair the blade 14 3060 model also costs 1899
Non of these Alienware crap are worth it, overpriced shit.
bruh the g14 is only like $100 cheaper here and has no ray tracing :?
Well, the CPU is much more faster on the x14 compared to the g14 and blade 14. People just look at the gpu when not everyone is focusing on the gpu of a laptop.
@@karladap2416 to be fair Alienware is positioned as a gaming laptop except something has changed significantly in the last few years
After quite a bit of BIOS updating, and a replacement of the headphone jack, its settled into quite a good machine. Bit annoying that such an expensive notebook was so unstable for quite a while. Overall though, I'm quite pleased with it. Makes my desktop seem pedestrian.
USD 1500 for a 3050 and a i5? meh
Definitely an Alienware.
Just paying for the name 😑
@@lescarpio and looks
so not much has changed haha
I got a 3070 legion 5 Pro on Walmart for 1449 USD. So yeah I'm good
Thanks for doing an alienware review! I guess it has been a while. I was kind of surprised since you reviewed several of the XPS line from Dell also but this is cool Thank you!
Amazing review Eber(I don't know the spelling of your name, sorry if it's wrong). Your reviews are almost always worth watching. I for one don't think I will be able to afford something like this for long time coming. But I will still watch to see your views and generally see what is happening in the PC industry.
BTW that shot at 5:49 is just epic. Whoever did this, requires a good pat on the back. Amazing job from you guys.
Wow, that Alienware 14 8 years ago was also my first Alienware laptop too. It was a good computer. Lasted me until I got my gaming PC just last year.
I still have that in working condition. There is a line on the display though
@echung is it still working?
Found one open box certified and it’s an amazing computer. I am impressed by the balance of performance and size, thermals seem decent enough under load.
Great review. Well paced, clear images and great explanation of this laptop. Thanks 👍🏻
I've never really considered a gaming laptop before because I actually use my laptop as a "lap" top regularly and like to be able to travel and move about the house or a co-working space with it and run on battery for a workday if necessary. I've always gone with an XPS 13 and an eGPU enclosure for gaming. I hate the new XPS design they've come out with and thought I'll be missing an upgrade this year but I actually think I might go for this one. 14" has always been the sweet sport for me in size/portability and it'll be nice to have a full-size USB port again! Shame about the shortsighted bezel design restricting access and all ports at the back is annoying, but I'm used to carrying dongles so not a big deal. I just wish there was a 3070 option for driving my ultrawide display.
I think if they manage to fix the battery life with a firmware update then it'll be an immediate purchase for me. I'll always have my eGPU for anything the 3060 can't handle.
If you want to spend a little more on something with better specs, I'd go for the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16. It's about $2100 for a 3070Ti/16gb Ram, for the $3400 model is a 3080 with 32gb Ram. I could be wrong on the specs for the $3400 model.
The X14 was designed around that tiny 130w adaptor - the only gaming laptop that uses USB-C charging. It's basically the same adaptor as 13" XPS, and you can use 140W MacBook adaptor too. The whole selling point is convenience, portability, 'Quality of Life' improvement and then some.
Because of the limited 130W, Dell only allow up to RTX3060 for the GPU, but by using the Intel 12700H CPU they offered a difference from Blade 14 and Asus G14 which are both AMD.
This is not a pure gaming laptop, it's made for people who carry it around for work and do some gaming on the side. It's probably the only gaming laptop with a 130W adaptor - which is more than adequate for a 1080p screen, games all run above 60fps. At a time when electricity is expensive, you will feel less guilty playing games and save money on utility bills too.
Looool what a context...buying an overpriced laptop in order save money in electricity...
You can also use USB c adaptor in legion 5/5 pro fyi.
@@MicaelAzevedo Legion 5 USB-C charging only works when the laptop is shutdown or sleeping. X14 was designed to use USB-C at all time.
I've noticed the C charger is the main thing to use nowadays and not to mention the DisplayPort.
@@johnserpo9267 wrong. You can use it whenever you want. We can bet if you want.
Yeah, something like this would be great for me. A bit more productivity though so resolutions would need to be somewhat higher (really like the Lenovo Legion Pro resolution for work). Good at work and then gaming in the evening.
i got mine today. got the 3060 model. in the uk, there were sales and plus a student discount got the 3060 model for £1350.
Nice
Nice deal, otherwise G14 all the way
Alienware sells some overpriced crap.
@@zZiL341yRj736 lol you say this to someone who got it for 1350 GBP. That's far from overpriced.
The 3060 model with the i7 is currently discounted to £1549 for me but I don't get the student discount. That's a really good price. It's just frustrating that we don't have the 32GB option in the UK. 16GB is the max available and it's not user upgradable.
In the recent black Friday sale , bought x14 , i7-12700H, 512 gb ssd, 16 gb ram , 3050ti version for $1050 . Hoping for the best !
That A-roll framing... 😍😍😍
i like your stuff. very slick and smooth. Good job. Will sub.
Great review and breakdown. I really like this laptop. While it doesn't perform on par with Razor Blade or Asus G14 in games, it's more than enough for my needs. Running World of Warcraft on high settings at 60+ fps shouldn't be hard for any machine now with rtx 3050ti and up. Productivity benchmarks look really well so using Lightroom on the go seems like it would be a great experience on this machine.
While it's tempting to go all out on specs it seems to me (based on various reviews) that 14" laptops really start hitting diminishing returns at RTX 3070 and up because of thermals. Razer Blade with 3080ti seems like a complete waste, as I could heavily upgrade my desktop instead for the price difference.
My biggest gripes with this is the 16GB max ram, FHD resolution instead of QHD (for photoshop), and the keyboard placement that you struggled with, although I would I have medium hand size. The problem is I can't try this before I buy it...
Would also have liked more battery life, but realistically it won't be an issue for me as long as I can get 5-6 hours of video playback or light usage. Also love that it has USB charging, so powerbanks is an alternative for trickle charging on the move if needed. Where I live the X14 with 3060 and 2GB storage costs about the same as the G14 with 6800S/6900HS, so going with the Asus is not the obvious choice for me. Razer Blade 14 is not as available in terms of models, so only option would be 14 with 3070ti and that's an extra 600$
7yr warranty too
still using my 2017 alienware , running strong
My company is using Alienware x15, i9-11900H, 32GB Ram, RTX 3070, 360hz panel. I don't even want to know how much they cost, but the build quality and performance is insane.
what is the use case for these laptops?
@@Chronos867 Software development
As usual a lot of people are upset that the price is high for the specs. I think some viewers need to consider that other laptop components cost money. It costs money to make a laptop small, or pretty, or well-built. It's like a buying a Camaro SS vs. an entry level BMW 3 series. Obviously one's faster but the other's got a lot of other areas of focus that raise the price that don't contribute to the speed
you nailed it..on point...i agree
The issue is that theres a competitor that is lighter, smaller, cheaper, and has longer battery life while only sacrificing 0.1 in of thickness. All of that and it still look just as premium. This begs the question why anyone should bother with this laptop?
@@sentryion3106 I'll tell you why, the 2021 G14 3060 with the amime matrix display was up for sale at 1200 bucks...and I was almost there to pull the trigger , and for those who did, it s a great system and great deal... i am not an alienware fanboy, but I was lucky enough to hold the g14 and this X14 back to back, side by side, the g14 is a bit thicker but yes overall footprint is a tad bit smaller, but it is also lighter, and the inhand feel while still very good, is not exactly as great as this one, this x14 feels like a macbook on steroids, thin yet dense with no chassis flex whatsoever, and then, where I live, ASUS' after sales service and support is appaling...Apple, Dell, HP & Lenovo has great after sales support, but not asus, neither MSI...forget about gigabyte....razer ain't available...if you want the biggest bang for your dime, the g14 is a better buy, but if you want a solidly built dependable system with good support, i'd say the Alienware makes a bit more sense...
@@sentryion3106 and the after sales support experience of asus is something i am speaking from experience, my girlfriend has a Zenbook Duo 14, but it gave her nothing but trouble, her second screen stopped working, it is stiill in a service center waiting for the replacement part to arrive and it has been 3 weeks, it is down to the point she had to get a last years Surface pro and now she daily drives it, with no sureity on when the zenbook will be delivered.....
@@insenjojo1839The newer 2022 version got a big update and in terms of looks and feel its been greatly improved from previous years. It is pretty much on razer level which on the feel alone stands with the top non gaming laptop out there.
what is the point of a great feeling machine when it's impractical? For the example of luxury car you get extra ,,"nice to have"feafures that are still practical and in most case quite useful. In this case you pay for the thinness that makes absolutely no sense since you end up increasing the footprint anyways. Even I can argue the slimeness of the 2016 -2019 Mac makes more sense since it overall increase portability while thatz not the case for the x14 since it's even less portable than actually making it a bit thicker.
If you live in the US the problem with warranty can be mitigated by buying best buy warranty. Also just as Asus had back experiences with customer support, so do many people have horror story with dell as well.
Actually it's easier to fit this in messenger bags than backpacks due to the orientation; it's technically briefcases that will have a problem since small Messenger bags are more of tablet bags already (ie Timbuk2 Classic Messenger XS, Catapult, etc). Messengers ie those that can fit a bike helmet (or more stuff a professional bike messenger might actually carry) will have more space towards the top as long as they can fit the width, but a backpack orients the laptop vertically and the width of the backpack is likewise more finite but also the shorter and the spare space goes to the L-R length of the laptop.
For example, given the stated dimension vs my HP 14in notebook as it fits in my bags, I
1. am certain this will not fit my Karachi Outpost (the old one that fits the old 13in MBP)
2. doubt it can fit my Timbuk2 Swig
3. am certain it can fit in my Timbuk2 Classic Messenger S (let alone M) without having the lid gaping
4. will not fit my Small Barney Rustle blanket, even without a sleeve (these bags don't have any laptop sleeves sown into the interior); but may fit the Medium (these bags, for all the ways the strap is better than Timbuk2, can't fit some things thanks to how they taper down to the bottom)
I'd rant about what the point is about making it thinner if it complicates backpack choices for people who either need to take a train or just prefer backpacks (and what 5mm more thickness can do to repackage the battery and cooling) but I already did that in one other vid.
Uhhh... I have an X14 and It's actually taller than some 17" laptops. It doesn't really fit in any bag I have except for the Alienware Horizon Utility Backpack. I don't complain, though, because that backpack is amazing.
heh after posting that, I've actually been trying to stuff it into different bags all day. It actually does fit most bags because it's so thin, so that even when it looks like it won't fit because of width, it usually somehow slides in. It even fits some designer (Kate Spade) totes. So... never mind, lol. While there are some pockets it's too wide for, it seems to fit about 70% of the laptop bags I have (I have too many, lol).
@@mbvglider Exactly my point. The front to rear dimension of Alienwares is far wider than anything else in the same screen size save for the MSI Titan. This is true for all of them but it's extremely baffling why the X14 has to be ridiculous thin* when the backpack has to be wider and usually also taller since it's not gonna be sized for a 13in/14in backpack anymore. More so if the shell of the backpack is meant to be stiffer for ergonomics as well as for carrying some other stuff like cameras, so the backpack itself can't really flex.
*without counting the feet, because another 5mm of heatsink fin width actually matters when working with this little unlike on a huge desktop CPU cooler where things level off past a DRP4
@@mbvglider from confidently incorrect to pleasantly surprised. ☺️
I hook this laptop up to a 34 inch ultrawide. Battlefield, Warcraft, and Arma 3 look and run fantastic. Best of all, when not in use I can just throw it in my backpack. Desktop power but in a very lightweight, portable package
I like the new benchmark chart style. Very cool
Would think that a laptop that costs 2k would have atleast a 1TB storage drive in it.
don't look at apple laptops then lmao
@@himboslice_ So true 😁 but those are not ment for gaming in the first place. Even a 1TB drive in a gaming laptop feels small these days.
Price it out on Dell's website. 3060 + 1 TB + 32 GB RAM is $1949.
I know most people don't want the extra hassle, but I always buy a laptop with the smallest drive available and upgrade it myself. It means I can use a good, reliable drive and not whatever was cheapest for Dell to acquire at the time (they never specify what drive they supply because it can change month-to-month and region-to-region) and I also want a clean install of Windows without all the bloatware so I'm reformatting anyway. The cost of a new drive at the capacity I want is always cheaper than the upgrade option and I can put the supplied drive in an external enclosure and use it as a backup. But I also agree with your point. They just use it as an attractive entry price and then profit off your need to upgrade it.
@@tomihawk01 For what it's worth, Dell installation is pretty bloated, but I find the Alienware install to be very clean. It's just drivers and Alienware Control Center, which you need anyway.
Those thermal images look to me like the heat could be solved by placing the laptop on one of those laptop stands with fans.
While I'm at it it wold be interesting to see if those things actually do something for thermal performance of laptops.
Had mine for about 2 months and I have zero complaints.. best laptop I've ever owned !
2 months (≧∀≦)
How about the physical volume mute, increase and decrease? Mine doesnt work
@@kyfa4966 no issues here..
@@B0SS330 nvm ive figured it out, i disabled something in device manager lol
Dang, that old Alienware IS my gaming laptop! Well, almost. I have a 15 with a 970m, but outside of that almost the same thing. Can't believe it's this old!
The fact that everyone call this laptop overpriced but is actually the cheapest in all the laptop im looking for right now for performance/price. Its cheaper than razer blade 14 and asus g14 for the specs i want and its even a bargain compared to an xps 15.
Would be interesting to see the Msi gs66 3060 model vs this. I feel like it would be a close call since they are both (slim) and close to the same cost. Would definitely love to see that video.
We big handed folk hand it to you for your valuable inputs. 👋👍🏼
My M 15 R5 can comfortably run 115 W on the RTX 3060 and level out at 80°C without thermal throttling at a much cheaper price point In a little larger of a laptop. I just could never put the little improvements of build quality and tiny improvements on form factor into perspective when it comes to a RAW performance.
Unfortunately, pricing is just too high in Australia. The lowest model is $3000 AUD.
My sister still uses my old 14 from 2013. still runs great.
Would love to see a comparison video between x14 and Blade 14.
Dude...you kept my request..thank you for reviewing the X14....Thank you...now I can finally be happy with my x14.....you just earned the bell notification....fyi this is my first ever alienware as well...and please compare the x14 and the blade 14
I recently just won one from a Alienware F1 competition, just waiting for it to arrive. Not a big Laptop gamer but I certainly wont complain.
Bro. That was one of the better review videos I've ever seen.
1500$ for i5 3050? Dell has lost their mind
Not really, this kind of build quality and form factor; you should expect high prices for low specs. The amount of engineering it takes to create a laptop like this more than justifies the 1500$ price tag in my opinion because logically those are the clear consequences of this design.
Good video, excellent, I love the Alienware design and it looks good quality, but I think the HP OMEN 16 with amd 6900hx cpu and amd 6750M gpu with 165HZ screen would be a better option what do you think
Oh c'mon
1500 bucks for 3050 ain't worth it
What are your thoughts between the x14 and the G14?
1900 without tax for 1080p …. Sure the GPU will not be able to push 1440p like resolutions but scaling has come a long way. Put a better panel on a 2K laptop.
I want to know why Dell docking stations don't work with this thing, And why audio keeps buffering?!
I want to see a comparison between this and the Asus Zephyrus G14.
Nice. Always like watching your reviews. You said it right, Dell has the best customer support..
Can you use a thunderbolt dock with power delivery? Thanks
Please Where do take all those wallpapers from 🙏
Isnt enough.. yet. But these very thin laptops are a promissing field. I would like to see an 13" alienware laptop with rtx4000, everything welded on mother board(SSD, wifi card), with no empty spaces at all. Would use it whith an 34" external screen, and would enjoy its mobility when i needed it.
Looks fantastic. But still difficult to get a good reason for paying that much on it...
I'll take a 2022 Zephyrus G14 any day over this if I was into small laptops, that's the best bang for buck in that formfactor.
There's one metric where I think the Alienware is a lot more livable. On notebookreviews test the g14 gets hot on the keyboard and underside. The x14 runs much cooler. You might think this is minor but in day to day not wanting to game on it because you get roasted has happened to many users before.
Blade 14 is smoking the competition
Personally I don't care for razor all it is is low profile sleekness but throttle like crazy due to the slim design.
What I think more people would be interested in would be this compared to the Asus 14
i just recently bought dell g15 and its just awesome
you guys get all the good stuff. we only get 12700H choice here which bumps up the price significantly
Just ordered a x14r2 w/32 gig, 4060, 1tb ssd and an i7 for 1600 usd shipped thought that was a good deal
Do you think you can do a review of the x14 R2, with the 4000 series graphics card and see where it still stands? because I'm struggling to see if it would be worth it long term. Thanks 😊
Please review Lenovo legion slim 7. It is available from best buy in the US. Great review!
yours turn on right away? Me and brother are trying to figure out how to turn it on. The chargers lighting up but ur doesn’t seem to
Work.
This might be a little out of the book. But, how good is this laptop for deep learning using the GPU ?
Make a full review of Asus Flow X16 like this one.
Is it good for content creation, anomation or 3D work?
on sale brand new for $1200, worth the sale or look else where?
wish it had a rtx 3080 version. would be amazing for portable PCVR gaming.
No power to run that 3080. Similar problem in the blade 14.
Pls make a video comparing the x14 and blade 14.
I have issues with my games stuttering and dropping from 150fps to 2-10fps. Any tips on fixing this?
I have an M17 r5 Ryzen edition. I love it. I just ordered an x14 with the 3050 ti. I am not going to use the x14 for gaming but coding and online stores. I got a steal from Dell 2 days ago 500 off MSRP. I'm wondering how the 3050ti does with fans and heat. All the reviews I've seen are with the 3060.
Testing in balanced mode rather than in maximum performance is just absurd, what is the deciding variable for choosing the mode? A dice? Your ear and impression of noise? How is this comparable to other results?!?!
When are legion slim 7i and 7 coming gen 7
Hopefully you'll review the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 pro x
Exceptional review!
No 32gb option in the UK, pricing all over the place, £ 1500-2000 for the same model.
I actually consider this laptop heavily. The biggest advantage for me is really good thermals and USB c charging. I am more than willing to give up performance for portability and thermals. After all, heat is the enemy of processers so a premium cooling system would make the laptop last a long time. However, poor battery life and awkward keyboard layout are too big of a compromise for those advantages. Not to mention the price is way too expensive for me.
LOVED the Homer Simpson wallpaper lol
Hi, my ssd is not working on raid 0 which is used by the default ssd, my new ssd works on ahci but then wifi is not showing? As if wifi module stops working
Just want to point out how important tdp is nowadays when laptop manufacturers don't specify it as max q or not
The razer blade with a 80watt freaking 3080ti got beat by a 3070ti (much cheaper) which was able to run at 140watt
Thank f***! You've actually reviewed a recent Alienware product. What took you so long?
can you do a review for x14 vs Blade 14? Thanks,
That design do be nice 👌
Might as well get a g14 2022 model
The design looks okay, but the screen and the spec are underwhelming. Maybe make it thicker to cool it better. I remember when they came out with water cooled laptop, that had a desktop cpu in it. you could upgrade it. not even raid or anything with 1 terabyte of memory. disappointing.
For that price?! No way...
can i buy your review version off of you, if u can facilitate that? I'm a college student in ireland and cant find one here and so would love your help
So difficult to find a powerful slim light laptop with decent battery life which is not white/silver with 32gb.

Can you answer please if this alienware has native HDMI input........ So I can hook up my PS4 without having to purchase a seperate capture card?
It does not

Yes, do a comparison!
I used to have a fully specs gaming laptop for programming and gaming. After 2 years; it was clunky and the fans were loud.
I bought an M1 pro MacBook pro, i wanted something different. The moment i turned on and was working on it for hours. I felt that having a gaming laptop is all a joke.
Now i work on my new MacBook pro and play games on my iPad pro ✊
Best decision of my life.
So you went from being able to game and program to barely being able to game
How is the swap usage on your MacBook?
Bro went from playin doom to angry birds
during the 2 years did you ever do maintenance on it?
I'd much prefer an AMD Advantage version of this laptop. For probably around the same price if not $100-$200 cheaper.
Guys for that price you’ll can get lenovo legion 5 that’s solid machine with insane performance with full power of rtx3060 with mux switch
Any m16 review in comingg?
Seeing the H6800 comparison would be awesome , price vs specs balance against performance, which in their respective cpu line is the best performer for the price
There is no CPU overclocking here, what you had was GPU thermal limits and overclocking. That's it.
As a alienware user, i would like to warn you all. You cant upgrade it and the due to dimensions not fitting the usual laptop bag sizes, it might give you a little odd/bad times
As an X14 user, I would like to let people know that for some weird reason, if you get the 3060 model, the 32 GB RAM upgrade is only $50 and you can upgrade from 512 GB to 1 TB SSD for free right now.
love to see ryzen version
At reasonable prices now. From $900 to $1,500 depending on how you spec it.
fellow big hander. thanks for mentioning that, the one thing i had yet to consider. this is pretty much a deal breaker for me
If they offered it with an amd cpu and a 3070ti or equivalent then it would be worth considering it but otherwise nah.
