He's Lewis - with a W. As always, he made me laugh. Until that last item. Nothing funny about dead children. We can't do anything about guns, so we surrender. Our right to bear arms is too important, so instead of keeping weapons of war out of the hands of crazies, let's protect children by making it easier to identify their shredded or headless bodies.
Hey! What about tatts? As soon as babies are born, at the same time we get their social security numbers, tattoo the SSN on them. Bar code it so it can be quickly scanned. Of course, the DNA will still be needed in case -- well, you know. Maybe that's not a modest proposal, but it's conservative and practical -- better than banning a very popular gun. NRA & 2A 4Ever!

Also, the Mitch McConnell moment as a metaphor for how stuck we are as a country, is brilliant. Its true, and it is brilliant.
You make me feel more sane when you rant about the insanity that defines our lives today. I’m just as baffled as you are by the things I see in and hear about our current state of affairs. It truly is rightening. But it helps to laugh about it, if only by releasing the stress it causes.

I am only 72 but I can relate. It became necessary to isolate during COVID but I became almost content with that. No family dramas. Now with numbers going up again this feeling content being alone is OK with me. I live in a red state so even going to pick up groceries makes me anxious.
Lol, I can relate @judithrapier. I live smack dab in the middle of Mormon country here in beautiful Utah and am secretly and gleefully rejoicing every time "he" gets another indictment. There are no yellow people here, no brown people, very few red people and God forbid 0 black people. 0. I'm white, sorry about that, and am still waiting on whatever it is I'm entitled to, but it really is stunning to me how I have to hide the fact that Donald Trump makes me physically I'll he disgusts me so much.I just don't get why he is not wearing an Orange jumpsuit and shuffling around in chains. It has astonished me he has so many people under some kind of weird voodoo supernatural power to the point of he steals their money from his campaigns and they continue to give him millions and hang on to whatever bs comes spewing out of his mouth everyday. I would love to wake up and see him in handcuffs and wearing that orange jumpsuit.....Cheers, sorry for the rant but damned if I don't feel a little better.

Listening in a home that has major roof damage from the June 29th straight line winds. Trees were flying! Some were without power for 14 days or more.

Everyone I've ever known who lived in a country with socialized medicine told me that they think the American system is nuts.
They have no complaints about wait times, for elective procedures and claim that emergency care has no life threatening delays, like our politicians would like us to believe.
Straight line wind caused a tree to fall on my house in 2012.

I'm pretty sure 'straight line winds' means the wind isn't forming a cyclone, it's just incredibly strong gusts of wind, it can also be more widespread damage I think, tornadoes can be extremely precise in their randomness.
You had me at Mitch Mc ............. Connell. I remembered from my Florida elementary education that the giant land tortoise moved at a remarkably slow pace. The same applies to Sen. McConnell. Especially when exacerbated by a stroke.... Okay, move along, nothing to see here. Thanks Lewis for helping me get through my day!😹
Shoes are used for miniature horses (and maybe ponies?) for when they go inside buildings, so their hooves don't slip on the flooring. There are miniature horse therapy animals, and when they go inside, they wear shoes.
Straight line wind damage, simply meaning not rotating like a tornado or hurricane. We get a fair amount of that down here in Florida at certain times...think Derecho...

I live in a very conservative state in a homeless shelter bc the local government wouldn’t renew my voucher for some reason I was never told- & I asked today if anyone had ever been homeless, became not homeless (qualified for a housing voucher), and then announced “I’ve decided I don’t like living in a home, I’d like to be homeless again.” I was assured that had never happened before. Super fun living in the USA in 2023!

That storm came through here, metro Detroit first. We had the same warnings. The damage was horrible. Over 110,000 without power. Trees down on houses and cars....that straight line wind was unreal.

McConnell's got two reasons to hang on to that job number one is his ego number two is if he dies in office is Survivor's get 100% of his salary for death benefit it just amazes me how they take some good care of themselves when it comes to that stuff but we're left out hanging on a limb for medical and so forth. My sister's 82 she chipped front tooth she pays $80 a month for dental coverage the dentist told her she wants that Crown it's going to cost her $ 4 000 and if she wants an implant it's going to cost her $6,000 her insurance company will pay about $200 of that what the heck is wrong with this picture
Make that one reason: ego. McConnell and his wife are multimillionaires. His family doesn't even need the $200,000 salary.

Lewis, the weather alert is (supposed to be) location based. If you got it, you were in the concerned area. They're called WEA (Wireless Emergency Alerts) or CMAS (Cellular Mobile Alert System).

They need to put a age limit on serving in government. Way too many useless old people still serving. There is that one lady that's like 192 years old, and can't remember her name let alone what they are voting on that day. How is that serving/helping our country? seriously? It's gonna be a HUGE party when 1/2 the ones serving in government pass away - and you know it's coming! Tick-Tock.

Yes, that's pretty much what it is, a big gust of wind comes straight down and damages everything in it's path. It's like a tornado, but not in twisted form. We are getting them more and more in the north east in the past few years. Tornado's too. They are smaller than in the south, and don't usually do much damage, but they can be dangerous, too. It's pretty much, just get inside, when you get the alerts. Should be safe in most buildings as long as they don't have structural issues to begin with.
Every time I see someone trotting down the road on a horse it angers me because their hooves weren't designed for pavement.
Horses don't need designer shoes, but in many cases they need shoes.

Our two party political system makes it impossible to get anything done. Since you only have one opponent, your goal is always just to trash them. If they win, your goal is just to hamper them as much as humanly possible that way you have a better chance of winning next time. Then when you win the shoes on the other foot, let’s just stop them hamper them and then we can say vote for me. There are no alternatives. There are no reasons to work together. Gerrymandering makes it even worse now you have people who are guaranteed a position in office. When you know you’ve got the job and nobody can fire you people don’t work they just sit there and do nothing. You don’t need to innovate you’ve got the job it’s yours as long as you don’t do something that puts you in a negative spotlight it’s your job. Look at an Marjorie Taylor Greene in the rest of those nut jobs. Most of them don’t even have to worry about losing their seat they know I’ve got this job for as long as I live.

I guess the horse sneakers are a designer version of the rubber boots that you put on a horse when riding them on a hard road, to cushion their hooves? Cheap ones go for about $15 a boot but there are much more expensive ones.
Or are they just fashion junk? I don't want to look them up.
I was going to say, all the European armies had rubber horseshoes in about the 1880s, so why this guy thinks he’s special with his horse sneakers
Tornadoes aren't entirely uncommon in western Mass., several years ago there was a fairly powerful one that tore through Springfield, usually they're not very bad though. There was a small one in Revere a year or so later, now that was a rarity. Certainly nothing like Tornado Alley or anything, but they can happen anywhere really.
I'm curious, being from the US. Do people in Canada get dental and vision? I ask because my hubby MUST wear glasses. With insurance, that cover $400 for the glasses, you'd think that'd be enough but you'd be wrong. We had to kick in an additional $400 out of pocket ourselves. $800+ for a pair of F-ing glasses! And that was with picking the lowest cost frames!
How? How come you can buy a pair of reader glasses which include frames from Walmart for $10 but frames at the optometrist office cost over $200? WTF?
So, glasses in Canada...how's that work? Anyone?

GET YOUR PRESCRIPTION AND GO ONLINE. I got 2 pair of glasses, with progressive lenses, for around 100 bucks recently. No insurance, but will still save you money.
