  • Bloody hell! Jon is in London to talk about populism. Turns out it’s not unique to America! Jon is joined by Ian Hislop, editor of the satirical current affairs publication Private Eye Magazine, to discuss the reign of Rupert Murdoch, the economic consequences of a government run by lunatics, and the explicitly corrupt yet unbeatable right-wing propaganda machine.

Talk about world's colliding. Jon Stewart and Ian Hislop in the same room is a dream team I never thought I'd see

Please do these every year. I'd love to see Ian and John do an annual review of the year in the US and UK.

Oh my, oh my, MURDOCH. As an Australian, I can't apologise enough. A monstrous man and a shame upon us.

  • @nicholasperry2380

Two giants of satire, comedy and honest intentions proving that the UK and USA can communicate well. This does need to be a regular thing.

it's wholesome to see Jon laugh with someone likeminded instead of in the face of someone terrible.

Pure gold! Ian Hislop is an absolute national treasure, one of the few sane voices holding those in power or in right wing media to account. So awesome to see these two in the same room.

My dad was a long time reader and fan of Private Eye and I continue to be so. Ian Hislop is a perfect example of a journalist who knows how to stand up against our crappy government

please can this be a regular podcast with Jon and Ian? This is the best and most honest thing I’ve heard in years! Give’s me a tiny bit of hope that we are not all lost….

Ian Hislop should be designated a "Grade 1 Listed Person" and protected at all costs.

I didn't want this conversation to end. So enjoy hearing intelligent, knowledgeable people speak about current events and history.

I’m 81, born in Germany in 1942, I’m a lucky Australian since 1956. Thanks so very much for actually making me laugh. I was rather down because I’m a fairly addicted trump soap opera watcher. You helped remind me that humour is a very powerful lens. How can we better employ it to help all of us to see more clearly, despite the hideous distortions all around. You guys have given it a bloody good go. Bless you This soap opera seems so much more far fetched than anything I’ve ever seen before

Two of the 21st century’s best satirists and keen observers of the modern world, in one room. Amazing!

Ian Hislop is a national treasure. The man is worth much more than his weight in gold, and to see him sit down with Jon is an honest-to-God joy.

The more you care, the deeper you dig.

  • @kvman6410

I loved how Ian defends the integrity of the BBC, its one of 2 or 3 world media outlets I still follow, as I agree with Ian, in that most media now is peddling sensationalism as truth.

I love how obvious it is to see how delighted John is to be in the same room with someone he likes and respects. If this were a regular series, I would watch it all the time.

Doesn't get any better than this. From a Londoner who spent the most of the 80s in the US, it's a window into the absolute best of both countries... a perfect meeting of the minds. Truth not only needs to speak to power, but also needs to give it the finger and laugh in its face. More please!

  • @alexanderbruinenserio3873

Jon and Ian are among the few who can make us laugh and inform us at the same time. Great video.

The croatian satirical magazine they are refering to in the end there is Feral Tribune. It was a beacon of hope especialy in post-war croatia where nationalist chauvinistic rhetoric was a normal thing and the corruption was rampant . They tried everything to shut them down, the founder was recruited in the army, they sabotaged their advertisers etc.
