It's not like they would learn things about life living together with others that don't look like their favourite flavour. Nobody cares that those that have it worse get some help. It is how it is done and who has their hands in it. Useful would be to have a preparation help for university, then you take a test that is the same for everyone. You made it and you're in on merit. No second guessing, you did it. If you don't make it learn a trade, start a business and be less likely to be in debt. If you still want to go to uni, you still can taking a test again.

The thing is, the folks who need to hear this won't care a bit. Not one bit. Because their unhappiness with anything that smells like DEI to them is driven by their bigotry, and bigotry doesn't care about facts. If you took away their ability to make snide comments or specious claims about DEI programs, they'd simply pick something else, because the bigotry is the important thing.

To all DEI haters, cut it with the horseshit. If someone in a DEI position makes a difference for 1 person, then it's worth it. Of course you can't fix history. But being able to help someone NOW is equally as important. There are millions of marginalized people in our society, and anybody who is doing anything to help them is commendable. Do you hate helping others? Are you jealous? Bigot perhaps? What's the hang up?
