    Fun fact: Mitch actually doesn't need the megaphone for the guitar solo. He does it live without it and it sounds exactly the same

    • @_WeDontKnow_
      @_WeDontKnow_ Před 2 lety +20

      It doesn't really sound "exactly" the same. He sings it just as well, but the megaphone completely changes the tone and sound of his voice to match that of a distorted guitar
      Mitch is talented but he can't add megaphone distortion to his voice on command

      @@_WeDontKnow_ As a matter of fact Mitch can. I have been to 5 concerts where this song was done. And surprisingly Mitch sounds like a distorted guitar "on command". So Justin how many concerts did you go to where this effect did not work? Just wondering.

      @@_WeDontKnow_ No, the megaphone changes nothing. I've seen Mitch do this in concert AND in VIP performances where I have been literally 5 feet away from him ... all without a MICROPHONE and without a megaphone. They change nothing. The megaphone is simply a prop in this video. Learn, son. PTX is THAT talented.

    FYI…Pentatonix can recreate the exact sound live with any of their music. They won’t sing any song they can’t reproduce live. Find a live version of Bohemian Rhapsody, it’s out there.

    I am a major Queen fan, especially Bohemian Rhapsody. If you want to really appreciate their "cover" go back and listen to the Queen version paying close attention to things like John Deacon's bass line and Roger Taylor's drum work during the song. Then you will see just how close Kevin (beatboxer) and Avi (bass singer) followed the works. There are little things all through this paying homage to both Pentatonix and Queen. The couch is because all of the beginning videos when Pentatonix recorded for CZcams they would be on a couch-type set up like this to get them all in the frame. The couch moving down the road I believe is an homage to the movie "Wayne's World" that caused Bohemian Rhapsody to hit the charts again. The stars/night sky pays homage to the four Queen band members (four shooting stars/comets) plus Dr. Brian Mays' passion for Astronomy and such. The megaphone is really just a visual prop, Mitch does the guitar solo without it for their live versions and it sounds the same.

  • @rmac1042
    @rmac1042 Před 2 lety +15

    Brian May loved this so much he posted a link in social media saying, “Enjoy”! The meteors at the end sequence was paying homage to Brian who is an astrophysicist!

  • @tamarasmith9060
    @tamarasmith9060 Před 2 lety +34

    The megaphone in the video is just to acknowledge that the studio version has a little mic reverb added to Mitch's guitar imitation & a couple other spots to add that electronic sound. However he really comes so close without it added! Another example is there's a completely off-mic live version of the group doing their Daft Punk medley, just labeled "private performance" available on youtube also & oh boy it's still got that electronic sound from all of them! The only mic is the one on the camera recording, & it's halfway across the room. Play it back to back with the official video & you can tell the difference but it's so small that it impresses you even more. 😍

    Brian May is actually Dr. Brian May. He is an astrophysicist. The scene in whiche they're looking up at the night sky is homage to Brian May. There are 4 shooting stars and I always wondered about that because there are 5 members in PTX. I read in a comment that it's an homage to Queen because there are 4 members in Queen. At least that's how I interpret the shooting starts. The moving couch pays homage to how they first started. Brian May was so impressed with the video that he put it on all his social media sites. If you want to see just how far Freddie Mercury's Legacy has gone, check out the video that says crowd at Green Day concert sings Bohemian Rhapsody.
    Even though you're not doing music anymore, you really really should watch Pentatonix doing "the prayer." They are at the top of their game. The video Drop October 29th and as of a few days ago it had 3.5 million views. There is a behind-the-scenes video for Bohemian Rhapsody. There is also one for the prayer. Periodically they do have behind the scenes videos.

When the video was released, Brian May, from Queen, posted a link to the video on his social media with the message to enjoy. Kinda cool. Mitch doesn't need the megaphone to make the guitar sound. He did it in concert on tours for years. He can also make a convincing violin sound.

    Christmas music by Pentatonix (aka PTX) is a must. They have released 6 albums of Christmas material over their 10-year history and have some new videos out with their current album "Evergreen". I saw them in concert last Sunday. EPIC! They are touring all over the USA right now with their Christmas tour. My fave Christmas song of theirs is "That's Christmas to Me", which is an original. The vast majority of their Christmas material are covers. I also like "O Come, All Ye Faithful". They put a spin on that song that never would have occurred to me. Genius. Thank you for reacting to this song. It was very scary for them to do. As you said, it was "iconic" and they wanted to do it justice. Kevin, the beat-boxer, said it was very challenging to do, because he wanted it to be as much like the original percussion as possible.

      They edited the sounds post-production for the solo part. He's not actually singing through a megaphone, but those are touched up vocals to imitate a megaphone's distortion (which imitates the guitar, all mitch is doing is singing "wa now-now-now")

      If you can't hear that there are different/extra effects on his voice during the solo in the studio recording, that's fine but it was indeed touched up to sound like he's singing through a megaphone. Queen never played the Bohemian Rhapsody in it's entirety live as they were worried about not being able to reproduce the sound live so they cut out parts or playing a recording for certain parts. Pentatonix can do this in full live with very little difference in sound between recording and live. No shade to Queen they were f'ning legends and their Live Aid Performance was the stuff of legends and I was lucky enough to see it live, but Pentatonix are skilled and well studied and trained musicians as well.

    Listen to Pentatonix': Daft Punk, Mary did you know?, Gold, .....there's just so much..the level of talent this group has and complement one another is just sick...individually they are sick as well.

    Love Pentatonix!
    Edit: would you guys ever be so bold to react to Taemin’s IDEA???? He is an amazing artist. I believe his MV right now has over 50 million views.

    I've probably watch close to 1000 reactions to this video and you're the first one who pointed out that they've got their shoes on the couch. Lol, I'm really surprise I didn't notice it on my own. I had one of those Mothers, too. :LOL. Nice reaction.

    Note the megaphone was just a prop. They don’t do anything in a video that they cannot preform on stag Aside from sets

    if you’d like to hear them live in good quality, i recommend their 2016 pop spring:
    specifically “Can’t Sleep Love” one of their originals!
    also Mitch (the lead in this one) only uses the megaphone as a prop, as he does the sound without it in the live performances,
    pentatonix made it a big trope to make sure they could do everything they performed, live.

    Pentatonix are just crazy good. But how about an all female version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Just search 4th Impact . They are 4 sisters from The Philippines with amazing harmonies ...im sure their version of this icon song will leave you astounded..........

    An excellent live PTX performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody" you might want to react to: czcams.com/video/xELVHG6hYxk/video.html . They sound exactly like the studio version.

    I haven’t listened to Pentatonix much but I like what I’ve heard. Dax, you are on the money with Adam Lambert. I’ve seen them a few times and Adam is the perfect fit because of his range and big personality. One song that gets me every time is Queen + Adam Lambert’s version of Who Wants to Live Forever. If you have the time, check out their Isle of Wight performance of that song. It is as close to perfection as it gets.

    PTX has also been recorded singing Somebody To Love & it's awesome! Another live fan video tho. They are currently on tour & there are some amazingly good live videos taken from the audience of these 1st in 2 yrs concerts! Sound isn't bad at all on most of them. 😊

    This does not sound much different when they are live. They do all those percussions and the megaphone is just for a visual effect.

    Flying pickets were brilliant, saw them at a club in the 80s:) But they are not a shadow on PTX iin my humble opinion:)
