- In this episode I begin adding some greenery to the layout in the form of static grass and a range of flocks and foliage I have focused on one small section of embankment to highlight the techniques used but these will be replicated on other areas as the work continues.

It's looking Fantastic. So real looking.well done. Beautiful detailing. Thank you for letting us share your journey. Best wishes Richard Crompton Cantertbury Kent
Paul, between yourself and Lewis, the pair of you could create one hell of a scenic layout. Regards, Henry.
Wow Henry, that’s one hell of a compliment to place me in Lewis’s territory. Thank you. Paul
Very many thanks Paul. Lovely to watch and great end results.
Thank you Mike. This is becoming a bit of a habit. 😆 Paul
@@GalgormHall It certainly is Paul. I've recently rediscovered my old Hornby Doublo and watching yours and the other great 'CZcamsrs' videos, I'm being spurred on to build a layout again. Thank you.
Really enjoyed this Vid gives me inspiration for cracking on, on my layout.
Thank you Stephen, go grab those scenic materials and get going. 😉 Paul
Great video Paul as usual .
Thank you John, glad you enjoyed it. Paul
Well that was an absolute pleasure to watch! Looking forward to more Paul!
Regards
Richard
Thanks Richard, glad you enjoyed it. Paul
Excellent demonstration! Very thorough and looks great! 👍👏
Thank you Anthony, glad you enjoyed it. Paul
Hi Paul that was exultant it is looks great well done mate i like the real dirt bit that done i will have a bash at that myself.
Thank you once again Tony, your comments and support of my videos are truly valued. Paul
Excellent Paul😎🚒🚒
Thanks Geoff. Paul
There is a something about watching scenery being done I find relaxing. Some great results there Paul and the greenery really brings the layout alive with nature. All the best, Clint
Cheers Clint. I have to agree with you there, Scenery does add an extra dimension to a layout. I’m loving this phase so much so I want to get more hillsides down to get them done too. 😆 Paul
Congratulations on your JNW prize Paul!!! Cheers Onno.
Haha Onno, you’re the third person to make me aware of it today. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t had a chance to watch the video yet but I’m doubly looking forward to do so now. 😆 Paul
Brilliant video thats helped so much on a similar scene on my layout. Many thanks.
Thank you so much Steve, I’m glad you got something out of it. Paul
looks great and very realistic
Thanks David. Paul
Paul, that embankment looks absolutely fantastic, very natural looking. Congrats. Cheers Greg
Thanks Greg, I’m so glad you like it. I know I do. Paul
Fab scenics paul, I just love watching scenic areas come to life, nice breifing on those products too, thank you for the video paul and cant wait for the next one.
Thanks Alex for the comments and your time taken to watch, always much appreciated. Paul
Wow wow this video was incredible your layout looks like the real thing thank you for taking the time to make this amazing video for us
Thank you Billy for the amazing comment and for taking the time to watch. Paul
Fantastic video Paul, I learned so much. Thank you. Can't wait for the next one!!
I’m so glad you found it useful Clive. Paul
Cracking job again Paul, step by step shows exactly how it's done.
Cheers
Jim.
Thanks Jim. It’s no water tower but hey ho. 😉 Paul
@@GalgormHall haha ......... one day we will see two being built, don't hold your breath he says :) Jim
That was a most enjoyable 40 minutes. Really good to see greenery appearing on the layout and it was good to see the process by which you create the whole scene. Lots of learning in there. Stephen
So glad you enjoyed it Stephen, I really enjoyed the process myself and there’s no doubt it’s changed the look of the layout entirely. The room looks much brighter as a result too. Paul
Another great update Paul, all the methods explained very well too. It always looks so much nicer when the Scenics come into play and it definitely brings the realism to the layout. Great work in my opinion, cheers for now, Chris
Thank you Chris, in my case the scenics have been a long time coming by it’s so much fun doing them now I can. You’re right too, it brings a layout to life once added. Paul
Excellent work - love the use of real soil by the road edge. Dave
Thanks for watching and commenting Dave. Paul
Yes indeed, excellent demonstration, a great help I've learnt a lot... Thank you..
Thank you for commenting Chris, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Paul
Really nice video to watch. Your scenic style actually adds a feeling of humidity in the air!
Thanks Christopher, that’s an interesting comment and something I hadn’t considered when modelling. We do get our fair share of moisture on this green isle and I did try and capture the tones of the greenery we have round about me. Paul
The embankment looks great Paul! The details at the end - softening the edges, really made the scene. Little details like that add so much realism. Like the fence but I can imagine it was frustrating. Congrats on winning JNW's giveaway! Best, John
Thanks John for watching and commenting. I’m really pleased with the results and that fencing just adds to the scene despite its difficulty installing it. Was also well chuffed with the draw from Jason, expect some crystal clear audio coming in future videos. 😉 Paul
Beautiful
Thank you Colin. Paul
A most enjoyable 40 minutes seeing your layout come to life with greenery. Well done mate! That last bit of earth to soften the road edge made a great contribution to the overall effect
Cheers Steve
Thanks Steve, glad you enjoyed it. Hope things are progressing well with your own work. Paul
A momentous day today Paul, I installed my first point which needed to be a double slip so a real baptism of fire! Anyway both Cobalt IP's are working perfectly with it so far, with a bit of luck I can add some track tomorrow and get my first loco running albeit on a short section
Cheers Steve
You’ve started with one of the most daunting points to install so it’ll be plain sailing from here on in! 😉 Paul
Hi Paul, I think this looks beautiful, very realistic. Very nice job!
Thank you so much Paul, I’m really pleased you like it. Paul
Looks very good Paul, very realistic Andy
Cheers Andy,, thanks for watching. Paul
Super video Paul
Great to see some green areas at last. It also is greatly improves the train running shots. A few good tips too.
Cheers Paul
Thanks Paul. You know what, seeing trains running through this area is a complete joy now with the scenic backgrounds. It makes such a difference. Paul
Nice job you made of that Paul
Geoff
Thank you Geoff. Paul
Hi Paul. Great video on how to do an embankment, I really enjoyed watching you go through each layer of grass and bushes. Well done excellent job. Regards George......
Thanks George, glad you enjoyed the video. I do worry sometimes that they are overly long but I didn’t really want to break this down in to a two parter. Paul
Great update and detail well done Paul - Kevin
Thanks Kevin, glad you enjoyed it. Paul
Very enjoyable video really love this little scene you’ve created - looks awesome
Making me want to re grass my areas now 😁
Cheers for sharing
Garry
Cheers Garry, I reckon yours is looking spot on, I just need to get some more trees on mine to get up o the level of your scenics. Paul
This was a pleasure to watch Paul. It’s all looking incredible. I think my favourite view was at 39:00 with the building up on the hill and the embankment in the foreground.
Thanks Lewis. With your time stamp you’ve proved to me you watched to the bitter end! 😉 Paul
Nice one. Looks good!
Thank you barton, I’m glad you like it. Paul
Great video
Thank you Reacher. Paul
Excellent
Thank you. Paul
Great to see a more natural blend of foliage Paul. My observations of some layouts show an unnatural 'carpet' effect with bright greens etc, which is a shame because their actual layout designs are rather good. Saying that, seeing what you want and actually achieving it are two different things. Yours is pretty much spot on👍
Thank you so much Paul, that’s a fantastic compliment and very much appreciated. Paul
That was a nice video chum, and I bet satisfying for you to, getting those brown fields all greened up. Looking really good, all the best Paul at Sandling Junction
Glad you enjoyed it Paul and thanks as always for commenting. Immensely satisfying seeing the greenery added. Paul
Amazing
Thank you. Paul
Absolutely top job there Paul. Those briar patch bushes are the bees knees!.
Adding greenery simply brings it to life!
Watch out in the very near future as I get mine underway.. I've got some neat little tips on enhancing greenery.. or in my case redery 😆
I do love the briar patch product Tim, next time I order I’ll include some of the brown patch to further enhance the look. Waiting patiently for your own green/red creation. 😉 Paul
Now you're just showing off lol.
Brilliant video as always mate and again I'll be taking notes and doing the same thing on my own layout build.
Thanks James, glad you enjoyed the show. Paul
Spot on. 👍
Thanks Silky. Paul
Great video there Paul, nice to see some greenery on your layout. Well worth the time with the other builds to get where you are. Will you be adding some patches of wild flowers to your embankments, personally I like some colour but it is your layout and do what you want cheers Colin.
Thank you Colin I’m glad you enjoyed it. I do need to add a spark of colour here and there. I’m in the process of experimenting to get the right look and product to replicate what I want. Keep watching this space. Paul
@@GalgormHall always looking forward to your video's cheers Colin
Nice looking embankment with well laid track running between the two over bridges. I note you left the static grass to dry overnight before adding additional mixture. I use the layering spray before the initial layer is dry to add the additional layers. Seems to work well - I assume the hairspray would work the same way. Cheers Euan
Thanks Euan. I left the initial layer overnight in order that I could give a good close hoover the next day before going on to the next stage as I felt some of the grass wasn’t bonding well to the surface. I later discovered this was down to the cheap glue I had been using and have since changed to another brand. The hairspray came directly from Lewis at Mouldy Raspberry and I’ve got to say it works really well and a lot less expensive than the layering sprays on the market. Paul
Hi Paul, great wee update, you certainly have been busy over the twelfth holiday 😉 You have shown you do have “green fingers” on that “red hand” 😂😂😂😂 Best Wishes from County Wicklow 😉
Lol Paul, there’s a touch of the green Irish in me then, is that what your saying. Thanks as always mate. Paul
More “Gardiners World” 😂😂😂😂
hi paul
it looks fantastic great job with the blending in along the road side
regrds
james
Thanks James, so glad you enjoyed it. Paul
@@GalgormHall 👍👍
Nice
Thanks. Paul
Nice idea with the real soil. But wouldn't the embankment have some trees? Thus creating the "wrong kind of leaves" :)
Hi Paul, this is an outstanding tutorial, really well done. I noticed the tunnel etc stonework and it looks so realistic and typical of stonework you would find in the West of Scotland. Are those paper kits or?? Can you explain how you painted them or direct me to where you may have covered it ? Keep up the great work!👍✏️📐
Hi Charlie, how’s things with you? Really glad you enjoyed the video. As to that brickwork, they are from the plasticard range, dressed stone in this case. The painting of the tunnel was covered in a previous video entitled Building a Bridge Part 2. This was then replicated on the retaining wall section behind the goods yard. Hope that helps you. Paul
Hi there, Do you use adhesive on most of the foliage or just place/scatter ?
Looks really good. Very nice how to video.
Get yourself a scale ruler, so much easier to work with than converting to millimetres. Or is it that I am just lazy?
Thanks Mal. That’s a good idea too with the scale rule, it would make things an awful lot simpler for me. Paul
Great job Paul. See you are getting some good weather across the water or have youbeen on holiday in the Med? Need to Message you but will do so in the next week or so. Chat soon. Before I forget, I purchased Rust-o-leum Cemeht spray for when I paint some silos that I bought. Would you recommend? Mike
Hi Mike, the good weather has coincided with a few days off for me which is a stroke of luck. I haven’t used that product before but will check it out. I can’t see how it wouldn’t be a good option on the silos. Check out Leila for the product he used on his, it worked very well. Chat soon my friend. Paul
Hi looking at your vid do you use roof felt for under your tracks thanks
Hi Paul, I don’t use anything for under the track, just pinned straight to the wood. Paul
Man that looks lovely
I'm 14 and am building a model railway and am starting to do my fields with my static grass applicator do you have any advise for fields ?
Thank you. I’d skip on and look at my Scenic Changes video posted just prior to Christmas. There’s been a bit of a change since this was recorded. As to your fields, if it’s grazing you don’t want too much height with it. Fine blended and coarse turfs along with 2mm static grass will look much better than mixes of 2 and 4mm grass. Just practice and experiment. Hope that helps. Paul
@@GalgormHall thanks for the great advise!
