  • The University of Notre Dame football team upset the fifth ranked Clemson Tigers Saturday night at Notre Dame Stadium, 35-14. The Irish ran for 263 yards in the win, marking the third-consecutive game hitting the 200-yard plateau. Logan Diggs and Audric Estimé each surpassed the century mark, running for 114 and 104 yards, respectively. The Irish improved to 6-3 and won its third-straight game. The loss is Clemson’s first of the year.
    The running game was the key to victory as Joe Alt, Jarrett Patterson, Zeke Correll, Josh Lugg and Blake Fisher paved the way. Along with the twin 100-yard rushers, Chris Tyree added 26 yards with seven carries, and Drew Pyne scrambled for 21 yards on four rushes and scored a touchdown. Estimé also hit paydirt as it’s the fifth time this season the Irish have scored multiple touchdowns on the ground.
    Drew Pyne threw for nine completions on 17 attempts, finding Michael Mayer four times. Mayer recorded 44 yards and caught the game’s final touchdown. That’s the 16th of his career, setting a new Notre Dame record for career touchdown receptions for a tight end, breaking Ken McAfee’s record that was set during his career in 1974-77.
    Defensively, linebacker JD Bertrand led the team with 12 tackles, nine solo, a sack and two tackles for loss. Freshman Ben Morrison added seven tackles, four solo, two interceptions, one in which he took 96 yards for a touchdown. The Irish defense limited Clemson to 281 total yards, 90 on the ground and 191 through the air.
    Notre Dame received the opening kickoff before having to punt to Clemson on the Tiger 21 yard line. The defense moved the Tigers back, setting up a punt. Jordan Botelho darted in and blocked the kick, Prince Kollie caught the deflection and scampered into the end zone to give the Irish an early lead. It’s the sixth blocked punt of the season, tying a Notre Dame record set in 1937.
    The teams exchanged punts until the Irish took over with 6:25 remaining in the half at its own 22. Notre Dame drove 78 yards on 11 plays, gaining 67 of those yards on the ground. Estimé carried for 41 yards in the series and Pyne finished it out with a bootleg to the left side. He followed the lead block of Mayer to run in for the five-yard score. The Irish led 14-0 with 0:38 remaining in the first half.
    As the third quarter wound down, Justin Ademilola hurried new Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik on a bootleg pass. The throw was late over the middle and Morrison grabbed his first career interception to set the Irish up in the red zone. A Pyne bootleg got the ball inside the five where Estimé finished the job with a two-yard touchdown run to put the Irish up 21-0 with 14:37 remaining in the game.
    Clemson responded by putting together a drive. DJ Uiagalelei tried to find a receiver inside the five, but again it found the hands of Morrison. Morrison ran down the Notre Dame sideline for a 96-yard touchdown to put the Irish up 28-0.

    I know the stadium isn't as loud as an SEC stadium but the NBC broadcast does a really poor job of conveying how loud it is. It is easy to tell on ABC, ESPN, and CBS when the crowd is loud but there are moments of this game when it was deafening in person that you can't even tell from this broadcast.

    The interview of the young man at the end shows the clear difference between how some universities still hold academics a priority and others don't. Notre Dame still requires a level of academics to attend their university. Unfortunately, others don't and you can tell once they start speaking into the microphone. They are there to win football games and bring money to the school, they can barely put a sentence together. They use incorrect tenses and literally sound like a four year old. "We be on all night and y'all can't stop what we be bringin', ain't no one better than us" 😃

    • @getinthedamnrobot
      @getinthedamnrobot Před rokem +2

      Indeed, that was a great example of Tressel-ball. People disremember the philosophy in total, and only remember the conservative running plays. In actuality, Tressel's teams were built on a foundation of very physical rushing, stifling defense, and game changing special teams play. Upon that foundation he actually ran a variable offense molded around the talent he recruited, including spread formations and 1st down deep shots. But always built on that foundation.
      ND in this game executed Tresselball at its best, including the offensive game-plan that if they can't stop the running game than why open it up?

    • @coachhumph5524
      @coachhumph5524 Před rokem +1

      There are those who think Rees did a good job at Notre Dame with some areas he definitely needs to improve. I personally think he's mediocre at best and he flat out stinks at recruiting and developing QB's It's ok to not be that good at getting the best QB's out of high school as long as you can develop an above average QB into a top NFL draft pick consistently. Rees has never made any QB he's had better. He only succeeded as a play caller when he had the decided talent advantage. Fortunately for Alabama most weeks will see them with a decided talent advantage so the real test will be the weeks where the talent is close or equal. If Saban has someone else actually coach and develop the QB room then Rees won't really be exposed until they play teams that are on the same level as Alabama is which means only 2 or 3 times a year.

    Great win for Notre Dame! Let's keep the momentum going! To be fair, Freeman had every right to be upset about that call. It was close but wasn't considered targeting. However, the announcers and the expert brought in all confirmed it should have been a roughing the passer call for sure. They also confirmed some other really bad calls, including a couple pass interference calls, they called on Notre Dame, basically gift wrapping a scoring drive for Clemson. Once again, there were some horrible calls against Notre Dame. I have to say, in all my years of watching football, I have never seen such horrendous all-around officiating, from the pros all the way to college football. I don't know what the problem is this year, but this year has been the worst all around officiating on a week to week, game to game basis, that I have ever seen in my entire life. The more I watch notre dame’s offense the more I’m in disbelief that their fans didn’t shoot themselves. How can pine be this bad with this of a running game. All they could do was run and it still worked. I feel bad for tommy rees because he probably had to throw out 3/4 of the playbook because pine sucks.

    Good job Irish. Clemson is very over rated. If they were in the Southeastern Conference then their schedule would be a very different experience.

    Yeah at 13 minutes or so into your video you know the referees was getting paid those two calls were definitely not fouls whatsoever they're trying to help Clemson out you can clearly see that

    Drew Pyne should be the starter for next year as for the other QB he should probably get more practice.

    Great game and Go Irish. Not a real fan of people dressing up like nuns especially ND kids. Sadly they don't know because they never had real sisters for teachers.

They promote the Kingdom of God and as such they should be totally respected out of respect to God. It's not a small thing or a meaningless thing to make fun of them by dressing up to look like a nun at a football game especially at a "Catholic" university.

      @@TheFreshTrumpet It really comes down to a mind set. If they had had nuns for teachers and had experienced their real love for the kids and then the reciprocal respect and realized what a woman religious is and represents, they would never do such things. But we are in a different time, not a better time. Nothing is taboo at ND now except to question wokeness and LBGTQ. Go Irish.
