Hi Stuart, thanks for the kind feedback and yes West Cork is notorious for rogue waves so do watch out for them, they literally come out of nowhere every now and then. Are you coming down to West Cork or Ireland in general? There are loads of nice spots in West Cork to photograph.

Its exceptional Kieran. It goes way beyond its spec sheet. I cant get over how intuitive it is ! Such a seamless interaction between the evf, the screen and the feel of the button layout. For some reason I always find myself standing in a foot of water with the tripod so this is incredibly helpful. Maybe the weakest link in the whole workflow using the Z8 might be me 😂 certainly cant blame the gear !!😂😂😂 Have you ever reviewed the Nisi system Kieran ? I find it great. Cheers keep at it Kieran 👍

Totally agree with you Joe, it's the first moirrorless camera that felt like a dslr for me, it just fewlt like a part of me and the process of taking a photo is seemless. Best camera I have ever bought even though the D850 has a very special place in my heart still also.
Funnily I started with Cokin filters, then moved to LEE, then Nisi and then arrived at the Firecrest Range and have loved them ever since.
In the conditions I shoot (you can see the stones flying at me in one of the waves) Coated filters just don't last as long.
Nothing wrong with the Nisi filters I just prefer the Firecrest filters and the holders are very similiar, not just saying that because I am a Formatt Hitech Ambassador (I was also in talks with Nisi about an ambo role) either I genuinely love their filters.
In saying that nothing wrong with Nisi, just not for me...
I always used to tell clients if you're shooting seascapes and you're not getting wet then you are doing it all wrong :-).

@@kieranhayesphotography Yes indeed Kieran, I came from the D850 too. I really didnt want to let it go but I traded it to MPB for some Z lenses. One of the very best things about the Z8 experience so far for me is the fact that it is so intuitive to set exposure, shoot, analyse the shot, reset in an almost sub-concious manner. Its sort of like you get more space in your head to concentrate on the more imaginative side of things..........all this is a great help when standing up to your oxters in water 😁Oh yes, and other minor things like not gettin' drowned etc...😂
Hmm, I saw you with two filter holders, how come I never thought of that 😆 Oh well. By the way I took your advice on the Smallrig L-Brkt. I was using the Kirk D850 L-Bracket which fits the Z8 reasonably well. Just slightly covers the focus mode button. The Smallrig makes the camera bigger and I love that as the grip is so secure. Cheers Kieran !

I am so lazy I still have a good few F mount lenses I need to sell, I will get around to it one of these days... It's the huge issue with the new mount, so many great Z lenses to buy now :-) In fairness SmallRig make some great products for a fantastic price, I have bought loads of their stuff over the years.
The not getting drowned part is something I am starting to concentrate a bit more on these days :-)
The two filter holder is a really handy little cheat :-) I actually have 5 of them as Formatt Hitech were good enough to give me extras for clients if they don't have their own filters on a workshop. Crazily it took me a few months to start using the second one. It's great to have the option to swap them out so quickly in changing light.
I used to shoot with two cameras before but the stress was just too much for me :-) shooting a 30 second exposure one way and a 1.6 second the other direction, it was all fun and games until a rogue wave came in :-)

Great vid Kieran ! How did you keep the tripod from disappearing in that pull ? 😂 By the way, just got a Z8. Surely that’s not a serious attempt to emulate a shutter sound 😝

Thanks a lot Joe, I can tell you now it was worse than it looked on screen 😂
Congrats on the Z8, how are you liking it so far?
The shutter sound effect is bad alright, after a while you don't notice it as much 👍
