  • My Photography story and how I wnet from picking up my first camera to becoming as professionla photographer in less than 12 months. When I think back on how this all happened it really does seem like some kind of fairytale.
Then I think of all the work that went into it and that seems more like a nightmare then but hey I loved evey minute of it.
For anyone looking to become a professional photographer I have a very simple bit of advice " rememeber you are one of millions that dream of this and if you don't put in the work then you will never be seen".
Being a Photographer is something that's earned it's not about gear or skill it's about effort drive, personality and then skill. Missing any of the above is just going to make it more difficult not impossible though.
I was talking to a very good business man one day abbout my story and I described how lucky I was and he stopped me talking and said " Kieran I have seen you in action this was not luck, hard work puts you in good lucks path and you work hard so it's desrved and not lucky". Those words have stuck with me since and I know beleive he was exactly right, you take your chances but chances don't appear they are created.
I am predicting this video will not get a lot of views but I only posted it to inspire people and if it changes one persons life then it was more than worth it.

Great video!! What you did works!! My daughter has a 12 month crazy story too! She started in Washington state, first free and then inexpensive shoots to build her portfolio. Then she moved to Hawaii! This blew her work wide open! She started with small jobs and did second shooter jobs....this has turned into her in being in the top ten photographers on the Big Island of Hawaii! She did things like you did, instagram, taking chances, doing some product photography, real estate photography etc...she has flown with National Geographic, done work for newspapers and so on. She is a top photographer on wedding sites etc...she is swamped with jobs and is flown to do her shoots in other states.

That's amazing and delighted to hear she is getting the recognition she deserves, hard work and effort really do pay off. I always say there are no rewards for the people that don't take risks.

@@kieranhayesphotography Thank you! Its true you can blaze your own trail! I am so proud of her! I have my own goals and tend to prefer wild life! LOL I have done photo shoots which turned out well. Just getting ready to spring for a longer zoom lens I really need, picking up used to save cash. She still will buy used gear!

that’s awesome for your daughter! My dad lives on the big island and we go visit him all the time. What’s your daughter’s name or website? We’ve been wanting to look into some family photos while there.

I had a very similar experience with product photography. I spent a couple of years trying things and accumulating gear, then out of nowhere I stumbled across an opening for a full-time corporate job in the field. They liked my portfolio and my passion and took a chance on me.
I firmly believe that we all get presented with opportunities, but it’s up to us to be ready and able to capitalize on the lucky break when it presents itself- that’s where the hard work pays off.
    Thanks for a great video!

Hi Justin, yes that's exactly it, you need to take your chances when they come but more importantly be ready for them. I couldn't agree more with you there.
The harder you work the more chances that cross your path.
Have a great weekend, thanks for watching and also for sharing your experience, great to meet someone else that got the same lucky break :-)

Very interesting, Kieran, as I have mentioned before you have a super laid back way presenting your channel which is way ahead of most of the others.
You should have and deserve much more subscribers, I love when you are out and about doing your Landscape and Seascapes. Just bought myself the Nikon Z 100-400 lens, cant believe how good these lenses are now.

Thanks a million, I hope to be getting back out vlogging now again and making a complete idiot if myself on a regular basis.
One of the things I always try and do is laugh at myself, when I am doing these videos I have to really stop myself sometimes though 😂.
I think that's where you are getting that vibe from everytime I look at the camera I pretend I am talking to my best friend who sadly passed a away 15 years ago now. But trust me we would both be sitting down laughing at some of these videos.
Thanks again for the incredibly kind comment, that's what makes this all the more worthwhile.
The Z 100-400 is a stunning lens, don't tempt me as I had it on my shopping list 😂.
Enjoy every minute of the new lens and well wear.
