A little update on this. Sarr unfortunately can't be classified as homegrown in the Premier League next season so the issue is even worse. An extra part to the Premier rules states: "A player's period on loan to a club from another National Association will not count towards the calculation of his Home Grown status unless his registration is held in suspension by the League and the FA and he continues to be entitled to be employed in the UK." It is on the latter part where Saliba was allowed because as an EU national, he has a right to work in the UK. Sarr, born and raised in Senegal before moving to France three-and-a-half years ago in September 2020, falls outside of that remit.
Cheers Ali - thinking this through would this allow any EU national to have years before they are 21 count to the home grown status, provided Tottenham / the player obtain a working visa (not guaranteed)? E.g. Udogie misses out by roughly 9 months. Yago Santiago would be eligible as home grown start of the 25/26 season if he went for loan or not in 24 / 25 and was resigned.
Yes Ali, loving these regular videos, thank you as always, much appreciated and come on you Spurs for the weekend ahead (the mens team and the ladies FA Cup Semi final) 😁😁
They’ve gotta let Skippy go on loan at least. Can’t let him sit around rotting to make up numbers . He deserves better than that for . Seems a really nice kid .
Ange has been very clear from the start. If a player is not 100% certain he wants to be at spurs, then he doesn't want them at the club. He needs to be consistent and let skipp play elsewhere, if that is what skipp wants. Realistically ange is going nowhere for at least a year, and realistically, skipp will only start a few games - maybe in the league cup or some group ties in the europa. Skipp deserves far more and frankly should have left in january.
Super video- looking forward to seeing us raid all the clubs tight on ffp for Gallagher, Onana etc. also assuming getting big earners like Perisic, Dier and Lloris out will help too. Tanguy…
Its disappointing that Spurs have some of the best training and academy facilities in Europe yet cannot produce players good enough to star in the first team.
I remember not long ago when the England first team was filled with Spurs players. Our talent is now incredibly diverse. I hope we can manage it in the window. Thanks Alli! Great job summarising!
Thanks for all the spadework/hard yards figuring out what player rules Spurs are/will be able to, satisfy. Yes it's mind numbing for us as viewers but luckily for us you did all the hard work and then transscribed and communicated it in your always clear and erudite manner. This certainly gives us guidance as to which kinds of players Spurs could be turning to in the summer xfer market.
With this Issue looming I think Maybe trying to get Kyle Walker Peters back from Southampton could be Good business RB/LB HG and Club trained, possibly even Marcus Edwards with us still holding a sell on clause not sure how suited he would be to the ange system tho
Thanks for the useful clarification of the team composition regulations, Alasdair. Very helpful although it appears to be a daunting challenge this summer! I’ll be sad to see Skipp depart-there were such good hopes for him. Hopeful for the Newcastle match. 🤞
Those homegrown rules are more difficult to understand than quantum physics. Will Bergvall for example become an home grown player or not when he’s 21? I don’t get it. And what are the consequences for not complying with the home grown rules? A fine? Points deduction? A public Levy spanking?
Thanks for the video Alasdair. Congratulations on making sense of several rather taxing topics. Rather you than me! 🤕At the moment I am finding it hard to think about what might happen transfer wise in the summer as the tension in the PL mounts ahead of some really tough fixtures coming up. Hopefully all the recruitment staff will earn their money and bring in some players that Ange can meld together with the existing squad. Then its full steam ahead for the premier league title next season.😀
Great vid as always Ali. Hope you’re well. I feel sorry for you that you had to go through all that with the player numbers. Can see the pain on your face when trying to explain it 😂. Thank you for doing the research for us
Hey Ali, would you be able to do another mid week episode like this that focusses on our under 21s squad? They're doing so well this season and it would be great to get a break down of the key players, and given spurs' home grown issues, if they have a chance of making the first team in the summer. For example do we need another centre forward, or is will lankeshear ready to be a back up? Could tyrese hall be our kobie mainoo? Or could Santiago stop us from needing to sign werner? Thanks for the videos!
Skipp can’t even make the match day squad so it would be a really poor situation if he had to stay. We could probably get good money for him as well. I think using the 2 keepers and bringing back KWP would be my choice. I do feel that KWP would suit the system and he can cover both Porro and Destiny. If Sarr isn’t HG at club then we have to reduce our foreign club numbers for one season and integrate the B list players fully into our European team. After the results last night and Europa looking more likely with the fixtures we have, that would make sense for me.
Any chance of asking Postecoglu about young homegrown talent being given a legitimate chance at breaking into the first team ? Any specific players he expects to break through ?
Hi Alasdair if you don't mind me asking. When you and Rob Guest are both at a Tottenham game what do you both do, why have two reporters at the game? thank you
Great vid. So we’re well set with the fair play but was good to know the amounts of the others as well. We need to ship a few out, hopefully on perm deals which isn’t easy…and we need to be targeting home grown players. I know Gallagher has been heavily linked but he doesn’t want to leave and I don’t want players who don’t want to be here…Gibbs-White, Eze, Doughty( rotate with Porro) …and a striker …
A wonderful surprise to get a mid week video! Thank you as always :) Quick question, so since Arsenal registered Saliba with this under 21 list, as we have done with Sarr, does Saliba count as a UFEA home grown player or not? Or is he in the same potential boat as Sarr being HG in the Premier League but not in Europe? Thanks mate! COYS
Great update Alasdair, and thanks for taking the headache for the team! I like transfer ansd finance updates as we are in a position of strength on both these related subjects. We will be able to get some money in for e.g. Gil, Hojberg and others who remain very good players but just don't fit. When we buy we must go for very high quality, equal or better to the current position. Given our homegrown challenge you so clearly explained I see Tosin, Branthwaite, Toney, Watkins, Gibbs-White, Guehi etc as the priority.
lol as if we're paying for Branthwaite, Toney, Watkins, Gibbs-White, and Guehi 🤣 We're getting Tosin or Kelly, maybe Gallegher which would help out Chelsea and be the most Spursy transfer possible
i said about our transfers about 7 videos ago i said it would cost us a fortune as we need alot of uk/eng players that have a 10% eng tax on them too . as our quota has dropped alot in recent windows kane dier winks . and im expecting davies forster tanganga sessionon skipp to all be moved on too who will all need replacing its going to be expensive even if we move just a couple of the players i mention out of the club . and i havnt even mentioned spence and rodon . big and expensive comes to mind all in all tho its going to be interesting for sure .
Good morning, Alasdair. Thanks once again for your insight to everything Tottenham. I agree that Bentancur and Hojbjerg should start. Brennan has to get into the middle when Timo has the ball. It goes the other way as well. They both have to attack and take on their respective full backs.
Great vid(as always!) and much appreciated (as always!). Would you know the extent of the club's psychological profiling of potential transfer targets? We seem to have more than our fair share of 'problem' players (Spence, Ndombele, Richarlison, Bissouma, etc).
Just a question for a future Q&A: when new signings arrive do they get like a history lesson about spurs? Are they made to watch all the best moments from our history and taught about the different rivalries, trophies etc ?
Does the option of bringing back Kyle Walker peters not help the club trained numbers? I saw some suggestion spurs could still do that if they sign him this summer
Geez pumping out the podcasts mate... I've barely heard the last one 😅 ....keep this form up in that upcoming two week break please, it definitely helps sate my Spurs appetite 👍🏻
@@SteveDestiny74 Thanks for the suggestion bro... yes I'm aware of his new channel... I am a movie fan but rarely watch any these days... having said that perhaps some of Ali's recommendations could steer me 👍🏻
Once again a great video. I would love to see Devine, Phillips, Parrott and Scarlett come into the squad next season like they have been doing at Liverpool with Elliott, Bradley, Clark and Jones. Sometimes I feel you need to have a bit of faith with the youngsters and let them off the leash a bit. Hopefully with all the competitions that Spurs will be in next season Ange can give them a bit more trust. There does not seem to be any room for the academy players this season, but then it is Ange's first season and he is getting know the players that are already at the club as well as keeping an eye on academy players. In Ange we Trust.
The home grown players rules are a nightmare to get your head around. As for the early kick-off time for the Saturday match, don't like it, feels like the weekend is over before the other teams have even started.
I honestly think we need to part ways with Richarlison, he’s not hit the heights of which the club would have expected for his price tag and maybe he’d be better suited at a different club opening the door for another incoming striker. I wonder if Ange has this in his mind already.
Phillips isn't ready, and we shouldn't be worrying about whether a new signing is "unfair" to oother players; we should only be thinking about if they improve our squad.
@@enders357 I mean that we already have 3 good defenders and 1 of them is already unhappy of being an unused sub in every game. If we get another one - they'll both be even more unhappy. Is it good for the team? And it will block the path for Phillips because we'll have 4 young defenders with fresh contracts meaning that he'll not have a chance in the near future...
@@enders357 Let's be honest, he has no chances to play unless VDV or Romero is injured or suspended. Who will be happy about that? Of course he won't say anything - it'll only make it worse for him. But I think his agent was talking about that...
Forster, Rodon, Tanganga , Parrott, Sessegnon, Gil, Ndombele Spence, all surplus to requirements. They all should be on the way out. Add in Hoijberg and possibly Lo Celso. Job done .
Hi Alistair enjoyed your podcast as usual, even enjoyed the first two parts of the squad chat, but like you i got slightly lost in the third bit, but enjoyable none the less, I must say hope Hojbjerg plays as well as he did against Nottingham Forest but he cuts out the passing to the opposition like a couple a times and nearly let Forest in to score. Anyway have a good trip up to Newcastle, and like you hoping for a win.
question Hi Alasdair thank you for the great content, my question is do you think that Harry Kane leaving the club has opened the Club and the fan base to embrace the entire squad more ?,I remember Neymar leaving Barca cause he always new He wouldn't be loved like Messi .
Spurs should keep Skipp since we are likely to have European football next season. This means more rotation to keep players fresh. With Lo Celso and Hojbjerg gone I think he will get more minutes as a squad player.
Luckily I'm a FM player so have already gone through the pain of this squad building/date setting/registration fun. This clearly has to be job in itself for one to two people at Spurs. Hello AI!
Cheers Ali - thinking the HG rules through following your Sarr update.. would this allow any EU national to have years before they are 21 count to the home grown status, provided Tottenham / the player obtain a working visa (not guaranteed)? E.g. Udogie misses out by roughly 9 months. Yago Santiago would be eligible as home grown start of the 25/26 season if he went for loan or not in 24 / 25 and was resigned. Going forward this will count for players signed on 18 birthday only due to Brexit driven rules.
Wouldn't it be nice if Spurs really went for it this summer in the transfer window whilst other teams are stuffed?! We won't though, there are hotels to build.....
Ali under the new changes moving from psr to squad revenue are spurs worse of now than under psr as it seems we were one of the healthiest clubs. But with the squad ratio does it just strengthen the City , Man U and Liverpool and cement them due to their revenue compared to losses under psr. We all saw how the stadium build effected Poch chance to get us over line plus the yrs at Wembley. Can we finally really compete in the market. Also I read the club was applying to use the stadium more for concerts etc per yr any news Ps are u in favour of 2 marquee who can change a team Van Dijk and Allison to push a team over or better squad
A know players are professional but how about a question foe Ange: How do the players prepare for all the different time kick offs and is it more difficult at times than others to prepare a team for an early kick off?
Ideally Tosin and Gallagher are great homegrown signings if they are willing to join. It seems like Chelsea is pushing to sell their academy players to avoid FFP.
Hojberg at this moment really settles and calms the midfield. He’s Been run ragged the last few seasons. I also saw that Richy was in Brazil in the past week. I wonder what role he will play this weekend.
Disagree strongly on the Bentancour and Hojberg start we will be down 3-0 by half time. Forest parked the bus and did not have the legs in the 2nd half. We all saw the deficiencies earlier this year with Bentancour, no way both of them cover the gaps left by Udogie and Porro.
Here is the squad as of now-Vicario,Forster(HG),Austin(CHG)-Porro,Emerson,Romero,VDV,Dragusin,Davies(HG)Udogie-Bissouma,Bentancur,Skipp(CHG),Sarr,Madison,Devine(CHG)-SON,Richarlison,Brennan(HG),Scarlett/Parrot(CHG).This makes the 4 CHG you need,7 out of 8 Country HG, you need, and total of 20 players, so to this list we need to add 1 English players, and we can have 4 none HG. It is not so bad, yes the 3-th GK is not great(hope we do not need him, we may prefer to have Hoijberg and Veliz/Werner over Scarlet, but still we can have something to work with.We can buy Robinson from Fulham he is HG i believe, EZE or Olise also, Toney or Ferguson maybe.
It's so sad the likes of Everton, Sheffield united and N Forest are being penalised! What about Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Liverpool teams their FFP enquiry being parked up forbwhst reasons its doesn't equate fair play at all Ali!
It's not called financial fair play. Prem rules are called profitability and sustainability rules (psr). Ffp was ueafs old set of rules. Which also covered ensuring players got paid their wages and teams received their transfer fees. Which is where the "fairplay" came into the name.
You only need 4 club trained if you want a full 25 man squad. I'd prefer we use academy players forany shortfall. So we don't have this problem in the future. See what they can do.
A little update on this. Sarr unfortunately can't be classified as homegrown in the Premier League next season so the issue is even worse.

Thanks for looking through all this minutiae.
And also, I figure we are going to have Donnelly and our other U21 stars as the team trained.
Cheers Ali - thinking this through would this allow any EU national to have years before they are 21 count to the home grown status, provided Tottenham / the player obtain a working visa (not guaranteed)? Would Dele count as club trained for Europe if we sign him back on a free? Worth a punt given the club trained situation?
Love an Ali Gold face unexpectedly popping up on my CZcams stream. My day just got better.
The algorithm (and Ali) never fail to deliver 🙏🏼🔥
We could re-sign Kyle Walker-Peters. He would count as both home-grown and club trained, and provide cover for both Porro and Udogie.

This homegrown rule doesn't actually help players if they are kept in a club just to make the homegrown quota.

Ps are u in favour of 2 marquee who can change a team Van Dijk and Allison to push a team over or better squad
A know players are professional but how about a question foe Ange: How do the players prepare for all the different time kick offs and is it more difficult at times than others to prepare a team for an early kick off?
Surely Ashley Phillips would come into the reckoning as a home grown player
Not 21 yet. Also won't be considered club trained.
Ideally Tosin and Gallagher are great homegrown signings if they are willing to join. It seems like Chelsea is pushing to sell their academy players to avoid FFP.
Midweek Ali Video 🔥🔥
Question: what are your thoughts on Porro being on the right wing as an alternative to Johnson. Would mean we would get a replacement and taller rwb?
Hojberg at this moment really settles and calms the midfield. He’s Been run ragged the last few seasons. I also saw that Richy was in Brazil in the past week. I wonder what role he will play this weekend.
OK this just melted my brain 😂
My players to leave this summer: Forster, EPH, Tanganga, GLC, Skippy, Davies, Ndombele, Gill.
Madness
Where can I find this FFP list of clubs? how much they can spend
Loving your mathematical ability knowledge and skills 👍🏼Skills 😂🎉
New Gold nuggets!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Tanguy 😩! It’s truly tragic to me
Disagree strongly on the Bentancour and Hojberg start we will be down 3-0 by half time. Forest parked the bus and did not have the legs in the 2nd half. We all saw the deficiencies earlier this year with Bentancour, no way both of them cover the gaps left by Udogie and Porro.
Will Phillips, Devine and Bergval count as club trained players when they turn 21?
I can bet anything, Biss or Sarr starts to give midfield legs to cover.
Read the title and instantly thought: "Ohno not another foreigner player count trip!"
I agree Alasdair Hojlberg deserves his starting place a total professional, and Bentancur is pure class
He certainly deserves to get his name spelt correctly by now. Lol.
I don’t understand why we’re still looking for right footed defenders or is the speed most important thing 🧐
Isaak Touré the FC Lorient player plays center back and could be turned into a number 6 he's one to watch!
I wonder how other teams compare with this homegrown issue?
One of the reasons city have a small squad. They have like 16 quality players then rest youth players
You only need 4 club trained if you want a full 25 man squad. I'd prefer we use academy players forany shortfall. So we don't have this problem in the future. See what they can do.
