This video (sponsored by Factor) shows how I carved a rock with angle grinder and combined it with a chainsaw carved log to make a media console or coffee table. Making DIY stone furniture is not that hard and the materials for the project were salvaged for free. I am not very good at chainsaw carving yet but my 40volt Ryobi Chainsaw buzzed right through this mulberry log. I did most of the shaping with my angle grinder and a carving disc.

This channel has the most unique design ideas of all CZcams. Shout out to Jessy!!
thank you! jess is the best!
A good tip might be to make the bottom slightly concave so that only the outer rim makes contact with the ground, similar to how mugs and bowls have a rim to sit nicely on a table
yes! although in this case it is our floor that isnt flat. I also think I will do felt pads on it so it doesn't scratch floors and can be slid
I love that your sister works on these projects with ya! It's so great to see that this is a family thang! Makes this old man's heart happy!
Water cooling / lubrication really prolongs the life of the diamond bits .
Even a watering can poured slowly while you drill would make a big difference
good tip!
Nah it’s absolutely gorgeous you don’t even need to hype it up. Simply priceless
The way that stone looked when you poured water on it screamed it needs coated with a gloss clear coat…it’d look phenomenal.
yes! looked like the planet Jupiter
@@HomeMadeModernThe fact that u did all these w bare hands, no gloves! Amazed me!! Yet ur hands ain’t rough looking! Do share how!!
This definitely makes the shortlist for favorites of yours. You really see so much potential in ordinary things. I love it!
thank you!
Ben, when moving around large stones and accessing different planes, a large sandbag, or maybe even beanbag might work, or several small ones?
One of my favorite pieces that you have created. Stunning. I love it. Also, one of the wood sculptures looks like a heart-good MoJoe that.
Super slick Ben!! That floating look and the simple, clean mixed materials are fabulous. I love how DIY-friendly your approach for these projects are, considering how stylish and "designer" they often are.
Awesome use of otherwise unused materials!
I like how traditional Japanese houses frequently use large rocks as foundations for verandah posts and how the bottom of the posts are shaped to fit the stone.
Looks awesome. You keep getting better, and better
Man are we good. Ps I'm a strong believer in team work
You created a stunning piece!
Love wood projects and wow with stone too, two gorgeous materials. Hope to be seeing more of your projects as a first time to your channel and satiated my creativity visual needs. Makes a nice bench or creative table . Love your creativity.❤
thank you!
I love it as both a table and a 2 seater bench. When you put it in the new home let the piece decide its usufullness. Might become more clear to you once its lived in.
What a great video! Really well done. These videos take time to not only record but edit but it flowed smoothly with lots of information and links! Perhaps spray water when using the angle grinder on stone, the diamond coating lasts much longer and the dust is kept down from floating in the air.
Really amazing! Nice work!
One of my favorite pieces of yours, so inspiring
Absolutely stunning sculptural piece!😊❤
For me you are a maverick, it is far from easy to consistently be this good! keep up the amazing work!
Wow, thanks!
Very talented, beautiful work
Very nice and simple. Every improvement makes this wonderful world more livable. Thank you for your work!
Oh. My. GOSH! So gorgeous
Designing game is getting better and better each time. Fantastic. Now I got to find some big rocks and old logs , 💪
Love it! That’s a very nice piece of furniture!
love the look ,well done sir
I love using the stone with salvaged wood, it’s beautiful, organic and I could see an awesome patio set or better yet for my particular concerns a natural dog playground… or I guess for kids too lol
Great design, I love the challenge of free /recycled materials. Good solid problem solving examples here!
Thank you! Cheers!
Im a pipefitter and this style of building insane things is seriously calling me right now. I had to do this sort of material handling at the bottom of boat yesterday and i could build this quick, with style and elegance lol.
Best creation so far! And as a media consume would be beautiful
That is really sharp looking.
Absolutely awesome.
Those Ryobi 40w outdoor tools are pretty solid. I got a bunch of good years out of the mower and leaf blower before I ditched a backyard for condo living.
the auger is my favorite!
It looks great ❤ nice work
Just too cool! And inspirational. I’d probably have to buy the rocks but I’ve got everything else. Time to get moving. Thanks for the video.
Really grateful for the inspiration…. Thanks for sharing…. Lovely project.
awesome build. really enjoyed the unique simple style and i can only imahine what your home will look like in the next 15 years or so... well done. FANTASTIC
Salute! This needs to happen at our house
Love this!
Beautiful and so elegant
Thank you! Cheers!
Simple, but not easy. Well done.
Sublime sculpture. Next time, fill those wooden cracks with coloured resins.
Rock solid creation.👍🏝️🇨🇦

Great work

Glad you enjoyed it
RELATIVE AND CREATIVE PROJECT
thank you! doing my best
Very cool. Nice work aligning those wonky pieces together.
Thank you very much!
Very cool. Reminds me of those stacked stone towers, people sometimes create for fun on rivers and lakes.
And interesting use of an angle grinder as well. It would not have occurred to me, to use it like that!
such a versatile and powerful tool
Hmmm, I'm looking at the part where you are trying to get a flat bottom on your rock. You might want to look to pottery for inspiration. If you turn a cup or a plate upside down most will have a circular base to them. Usually an unglazed ring, called a setting ring. It's easyer to have a smaller perimeter that's flat and making contact with the surface below it, and the middle gets carved in more so as to not touch at all. I hope that makes sense.
This was really creative and such an awesome build Ben!! 🫶🏼it
You might next using winding sticks to see the flatness of your stone work that needs a flat side
Hi Ben, I just discovered your channel and I love the content. Thank you for the inspiration.
Welcome! thank you!
Looks awesome! You could probably put sharpies in the pipes to transfer the hole locations
This is so beautiful. I’m surprised those short rods can hold so much weight
Hey Ben, 3M produces hearing protection for helmets. There are holes on the side, where you can screw it in.
The Versaflow-System is great, but prohibitively expensive for a DIYer. I got the helmet used on EBay and built my own belt out of a little 12V blower, a USB-C powerbank and screw in gasmaskfilters. Not as elegant as 3Ms Version, but still better than anything I used before.
good to know I will check that out
Great video. Super piece. Cool space suit too. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂❤️🙏
thank you for always being so supportive!
You also need to remember you can take concrete crush up colored bricks, throw into the mix and build a mortar type joint at the bottom to match the color of the rock so that it is flat at the bottom mixing crushed rock of different colors. You can taint your concrete to fill in gaps and level off the bottom. Just a suggestion I love what you did.
Precioso!!!!
nice idea
welldone
Looks great!
The cheap grinder blades do great with normal stones like these. We only need expensive ones for granite and other really hard stones.
I haven't used the wood ones, but I'd love to get into it. Might even put a groove in the middle for extra comfort ;)
Thanks for the tips!
One interesting approach could be anchoring the wood blocks in before cutting their tops flat... that way the aligment wouldnt actually be the thing translating to a flat square top at the end. Cool build. Always enjoy how you find ways to keep organic form in your projects!
yes I think this could be done with a router sled to flatten the top
@@HomeMadeModern that's exactly what i was thinking
If you can get access to a drill press.
Take a 4x4, and drill holes for the sizes of drills you need to use, through the 4x4,
Then secure the 4x4 over the spot you want to drill, so the hole you prepped in the 4x4 is in the right spot.
Then when you can have confidence that you are drilling straight.
EDIT - For the cracks, you could also get some sawdust from the work you did grinding the wood down. And mix it with wood glue, then feed that into the cracks.
Thank you ben
You're welcome and thank you for watching!
Super.
Bravoo🎉
Ok that ryobi nike crew though 😍
Cool.
The flat side of the stone looked like the stripes on Saturn with the eye of a storm😊
Curtis from Cutting Edge Engineering calls his mask the fart extractor, cause it sucks the air from that region😅
Can you sit more towards the edge of the lower one or does it teeter totter?
GOT MY THUMBS UP SIR 🎉😊😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
What happened with the small chipped stones?
Hi Jess!
Jess says Hi!
❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤
👍💓!!
That stone was begging to show its other face
Top of the wood parts aren't level???
level ish but if I wanted them perfect I would set up a router sled after they are on the rock
Reupped ?
دست مریزاد بزن چکه ره🤩👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Yikes close to 2grand for that face helmet is way too expensive to have laying around .
I'm thinking to myself, "He doesn't watch T.V."
you stink commercials!
Love this!
