For the past two years I have been using the 14 inch MacBook Pro and its combination of size, portability, power, and battery life has personally made it the best laptop that I have ever used... but this time I decided to go for the bigger 16 inch MacBook Pro and the reasons may surprise you on why I decided to ditch my smaller laptop for a bigger one.

Can you make a video explaining how best we can make video presentations, using which hardware and software.
Whereby if we present something we also have a small window for our video, and where we can also write over slides.
Thanks
I love ALL these people saying "But on an airplane tray the 14" is better" First - most you are NOT traveling enough to make this be the soul part of your decision. 2) of this group a GOOD number of you are so busy during your TRAVEL, that the 2 to 6 your flight you are NOT editing on the airplane food tray" so please STOP
Great points
Exactly. My bag stays in the overhead bin
I´ve only edited once on an airplane, and it wasn't a great experience, so yeah., you are right.
After being hesitant I returned my 14 for the 16 and man has that been the best decision ever.
I just ditched my 16" for 14"... After using 16 for a year, I realized that we should decide what to expect from which device... Now a laptop is a laptop... Not a replacement for a desktop. If you are craving for a larger display than even 16" is not big enough for many people and that's why I hava a 27" display. Now, how many times in my life would I need a larger display while ı am not home or in the office? Answer is not much... Having said that, carrying a bulky 16" all around more or less feels like carrying a cow to drink milk!? Now, I have a LAPTOP which is 14" and portable and a DESKTOP when I plug it to my 27" ext. display... Done.
It's not only about screen size but also about performance. 16" is way superior than 14" when it comes to performance (with same spec).
@@Dardania true. As I said I used it both. Depending on what you do, that performance difference is quite subjective though. Again, O don’t want to carry around a tank for a performance that I would only need on my desk :) 14 is more than capable for most average joe.
16in isn't even bulky in my opinion
My bet is most people can't tell the difference between a M3 Max and Pro if they use both without knowing which one it is.
appriciated
Could not live with anything smaller. 😊
You will definitely appreciate the screen size upgrade.
I had the M1 Max 16" and it never left my desk unless I was traveling and then I would need to bring an iPad to use on the plane. Before that I had a M1 Ultra Max Studio and a 14" M1 Pro combo for desk and traveling respectively. I sold all of that and got the 14" M3 Max as main machine. Of course the 16" is better to have at your destination but I'm much happier with the 14 for portability.
Thinking about doing the exact same - M1 Pro 16 right now and thinking about the M3 Pro or Max (likely this one) 14 inch
A suggestion; install Mac fans control, it really helps with heat in the 14 for me anyway (m3 max) and it's free :)

Where did you sell all that stuff? If you don't mind me asking...
eBay but the fees are out of control these days. It’s just easy.
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate your thoughts. Blessings on your day!
The 16 is too big for me. So awkward to open it on the go and for bags. The 14 is perfect for that and i have an external display for my desk.
Interesting video, good work.
Wish I also have the 16’
My office often looks alot like the front seat of a Ram pickup. When home I'm connected to a couple of display. Had the 16", currently LOVING the 14".
I've had a maxed M1 max 16" and now I want the 14". The 16" is too big for airplane trays, cafes, or using on the couch. I usually carry a m1 air with me for that reason lol.
I don't use any desktop but only use a laptop. I also have a 12.9 ipad. Is 14 inch MP still the best option?
I have the 14” M1 exact same color as you. I was just wondering if I want. a bigger screen now like you. Thanks for the great video. I will probably keep this one for now and keep the money for another need. I wish I could updgade the RAM. Can I?
My daughter starting college in the fall so that will more than comsume my money. Great video by the way! Thanks
I've had the Macbook Pro 16 inch M1 since it was released and I'm very happy with it. I had it with me in Thailand and apart from the flight and bus I was able to use it on the trip without any problems. You don't really feel the weight in the backpack. My buddy switched from the 14 inch to the 16 inch and is now very happy with it. In stationary terms, the 16 inch is better in all areas. Nevertheless, I have now bought the 13 inch M2 Macbook Air for traveling and it is the perfect combination.
- Perfect for home and rare travel: MP 16 inches
- Perfect for travel and couch: MA 13 inches
- Perfect for traveling a lot with performance (content creator): MP 14 inches
@GregsGadgets how do you find typing on the 16 inch model?? I tried it and found resting my wrists on the larger space between the edge of the laptop and the keyboard was quite uncomfortable, at at times I was resting my wrists on the trackpad. Instantly put me off!
Finally someone asking the real question, but they are not going to answer that are they..you know why? Because it truly is uncomfortable on the 16”. None of them are going to admit it, none of them are going to talk about it. From all the videos out there, not a single youtuber has touched this aspect or tested. They all talk how great the keyboard is, the trackpad etc..but none of them did the slightest test to show how the typing experience is. I had the 16” and just as you, I found it very uncomfy and being a serious hands injury threat, therefore had to go for the 14”. Loved the bigger screen, loved the slightly better sound, but typing was awful..my thumbs always touching that way too big trackpad, the sharp edge of the laptop cutting in my forearms tendons, my wrists always in an awkward position, putting pressure on the cubital. I really don’t understand how no one questions the layout on the 16”..that keyboard should be bigger given the laptop is bigger or at least towards the middle and that trackpad should be smaller just as it is on the 14” where its the perfect size..apple instead of making a bigger keyboard, they made a bigger trackpad..where’s the logic?
Great video review! I upgraded from my 2019 Intel 15 inch MacBook Pro to the new M3 Pro 16 inch MacBook Pro and it is light years ahead of that 2019 model!
I have a 2019 15” i9 MBP. I’m sure the M3 is also infinitely much quieter!
@@mochachaiguy That's the one I had too! Great machine, but man this M3 Pro I got blows the Core i9 into the dust
Am I the only one who keeps wondering, what is this fancy lobby or coffee shop looking place that Greg goes to often? 😅
The mystery is part of the allure.
Who knows anymore with AI!
@619WWEFAN is secretly Rey Mysterio
Greg,
What is the type of Apple Watch band you are using? I bought Apple Watch Ultra 2 and want an orange band. Thanks.
I can't wait to see how the m3 pro 36gb 16" will compare to my base model m1 mbp. Thank you for the video!
The 16in is a great desktop replacement, I have one. Thinking of getting a 14in model for travel.
How do you feel about the Space Black color months later?
I’m not even through the video, but as someone who travels globally with a 40L backpack and 8L sling bag, I don’t get what the big deal is between a 14” or 16”…. I can’t tell ANY difference in convenience. And if the extra weight is the “back breaker”, because you’ll be on your feet with it often, then probably time to upgrade to a bag with some kind of hip belt support.
As someone who has been all about the 16" MB Pro and 12.9" iPad Pro... I've recently traded in my iPad to pick up the 11" iPad Pro and have been considering the same with my laptop. However, this video helped me realize that the screen size and weight aren't that big of a deal. I have a fairly large desk and a lot of the other people who I see make videos about the 14" being superior for travel... fly constantly. Meanwhile, my travel is to the coffee shop and back. Maybe from my desk to the couch. Using a 16" laptop on my lap on the couch is fine. Meanwhile the size and weight difference with trading in my iPad was substantial enough that I'm actually using the iPad a lot more for reading that I use to do.
I went from a 13" Intel MBP to a 14" M1 MacBook Pro and the 1" larger screen made a huge difference. I love the size & weight of the 14" and it's perfect for everything I do. Even with audio & video work I've rarely ever heard the fans running. That said, that 16" screen is beautiful! To me, that one more pound of weight is no big deal, so I'm seriously thinking of going 16" next time.
Thank you for confirming my decision to order the M3 Max 16”. I get it tomorrow (Jan 8 2024). Very excited and I feel reassured by your video. Coming from MacBook Pro 2018 intel.
I ordered a 16 inch maxed out m3max with 64gb and 4tb as my 2015 maxed out 15 inch MacBook pro didn’t cope anymore with the statistical models i need to run and lightroom, photoshop and premiere pro were running really slow. Also hoping to do some light gaming though crossover. Should also be here tomorrow.
@@Superbus753 How is it working out for you?
i'd love a 16 inch macbook, but i end up using an external monitor or two to where the 14 inch has been a solid purchase for 2 years now. 14 inch M1 Pro is such a sweet spot in my day to day.
Hello,
I just order the MacBook Air 15 m2. I really hesitate with the pro 14 for the better screen but more smaller. Do you see a big difference between the air vs pro for the screen? Which laptop you love more? Thank!!
120 pro motion but some people don’t mind it. The weight profile of the air is better at 15 inch than the 16 imo. If you don’t need super performance the 15 ain’t bad I just got it for 999
I’ve got the 16” M3, a 14” M1…. But, for some crazy reason my 15” M2 Air is tough to not use- feels smaller in the bag than the 14” Pro- extra screen real estate seems to be a bigger difference when using it than it actually is…I know I am supposed to like the Pro’s more… don’t miss 120hz or the superior Pro Display capability. My M2 15” Air might be my favorite MacBook right now.
Also- I don’t use the computer in my bag for much heavy lifting.
After playing intensively in the Apple Store with all models I got the 15". In terms of screen colours' and quality, they all look the same to me. The higher refresh rate is not as noticeable as on iPhones. For productivity and immersion the 16>15 >>> 14>13. If you use your laptop for 3d renderings get the 16" Pro M1. For anything else get the 15 air with 16/512 configuration.
I went with the 16-inch too Greg but M3 Max 16-core CPU 40-core GPU 64 GB 1 TB SSD. I feel like Lion-O with the Sword of Omens whenever I fire up this beast
did it give you sight beyond sight? that wasn't mentioned in the keynote.
😂
Better battery, larger display, better airflow, more ports, more speaker holes, list goes on really
More ports?
For video, it is more about video encoder, so I guess it won’t give you a lot of processing power, but big screen and happy money spending may bump it up~ enjoy~
Can I buy your 14in? Thanks!
Would you consider the upgrade to the 64GB on a Macbook Pro M3Max?
I did it for mine as some statistical models i need to run need more than 30gb ram
I traded my M1 Pro 16" for an M3 Pro 14" because I wanted something smaller. I LOVED the bigger screen before I had to start traveling with it. I do miss the extra screen at times but the 14" on the pro is good for me. IF I bought a Max I would get the 16" for extra batter and better cooling.
where is this place being filmed?
good choice, got the 16 inch myself... you cant beat that display
In the heavy weight category of the 16" laptops, the MBP 16" (2.1kg, 4.7 lbs) is actually one of the lightest machine, even if you bring along the 140W gan power adapter. Whereas the razor blade 16" is 2.45kg, 5.4 lbs, even more so with its massive 280W gan power brick, Legion lenovo pro is also 2.45kg, ASUS Strix G16 is 2.5kg (5.51 lb). There are other two light (2.1kg, 4.7lbs) 16" laptops worth to mention, the Legion Slim 5 or 7 16" and ASUS Zephyrus M16.
There are quite a few lighter 16" laptops. Two that come to mind are the Lenovo Thinkpad Z16 at 1.9kg (AMD based so reasonable battery life although nowhere near Mac levels) and the Thinkpad P1 at about 1.8kg (Intel based so poor battery life but can be specced with very high end GPU's for gaming). The MacBook 16 is a very, very, wonderful machine but it is a little on the heavy side.
You are comparing it with gaming laptops!! 😂😂😂
Those you mentioned are for GAMING 😂😂😂
First World problem - should I use my 13" or 15" MBA or maybe my 14" or 16" MBP. 😀
I just can't get the productivity I want out of MacBook Air 13" because of size and I have big hands. Being able to rest my hands on my computer and screen real estate is a big deal. Upgrading to 16" soon!
Apple should make a 16" M3 MacBook Air. Thin, light, but with better display.
Also, We wished you had asked us First, yes, the 16 inch MacBook Pro is a top-tier laptop ideal for professionals. It features an impressive Liquid Retina XDR display, outstanding performance for demanding tasks, and exceptional battery life. The design is sleek and robust, for those who need high performance and advanced features in a portable design.
I got the 16" M3 Pro MacBook Pro. I ended up upgrading the RAM to 36GB of RAM instead of 18GB. No more dropped frames working with 4K60fps videos on Premiere Pro. That thing uses up 18GB of RAM. The M1 Pro I have just had 16GB of RAM, can't work with these videos with that. Gosh.
I was reading that’s more of a premiere pro issue than it is the RAM. 18 should be more than enough. Switch to Final Cut
@@fr3ddy1461 I saw it do that when I used Final Cut Pro too on M1 Pro. This was remedied on the M3 Pro.
How much storage did you get?
I don't really believe in 13-14 inch displays as sufficient for prolonged usage. If you work seriously on your laptop, you should really start with 15 inches.
i think 14 in ch is better i bought the 16 inch one for m1 and 14 for the m3 and m2 and as a user who tried both i would choose 14 inch
Why please help me decide
Bigger the Banger
Get the best, I used to work for a company that allowed me to do that. Why did my old g4 tower support 1.5gb of ram none of this new silicon can do that lol.
WTF at fan noise coming back. Typing this on a 15 inch intel with the fan screaming. These m3 chips are pretty disappointing id give away a tiny bump in speed to not have to deal with fan noise.
You’ll be regretting getting the 16” if you have Vision Pro. The 16” is really heavy and thicker than the last Intel version.
I did not understand a word of the conclusion 😅
Hi, can you do this same video but from the perspective of someone who owns an 12.9 ipad. Include ideas of sidecar etc. I would really appreciate this since I can't find a buyers guide from an ipad owners perspective.
I just got my M3 Pro 18GB of Ram/1TB of Storage from Best Buy last week in Space Black Brand New and Sealed. Manager gave me a huge discount for my 30th Birthday coming up. 14 inches for $2167.19 out the door.
I went with this size, because I originally had my first MacBook for college 11 years ago in 15inches 2013 Non Retina, 4GB of Ram and 512 Storage. That thing was 4.8 pounds. pounds and it was cool, but heavy. I am also a cyclist so me staying low key while traveling around with an investment like this safety is number one.
So far I Love it! Especially for the price he gave me. I have a 2017 iMac at home that I use for at home office task/tiny streaming. I want to be that person that say I need the biggest MacBook full loaded, but I am just not it. Atleast right now 😂😂😂.
I just buy the 13in Air and 16in Pro and alternate purchases. So I buy the 16in Intel i9 in 2018, then buy 13in M1 in 2020, then replace the i9 with M3 Max in 2023, and will replace 13in M1 with maybe a future M5 Air in 2025.
As person with bad eyesight I just appreciate the ability to zoom and still see most of a page😂
bigger is always better!
If you are going to a M3 Max, the 16 inch will support that powerful chip better. With the M3 Pro, the 14 inch is fine.
Yeah just got the 16in m3 max (binned version) and when cranking it it still gets quite hot but I imagine it’d be even hotter on the 14in
Im getting a maxed out M3 max next week so remind me to tell you. I expect more noise, i dont plan to play too long on ultra 4k unless i buy a cooling plate. Most of the time i dont expect any fan noise at all
Messing with all 3 at Best Buy, a 15” pro would be the perfect size. It would be a tiny bit smaller than the 15” air due to smaller bezels.. and that would truly be perfect. The resolution on the 15 compared to the 14 seems to be better too. I HATE how Mac forces you to lock-in to their resolutions.. I want to be able to have smaller increments between them- like on the 14”, the smallest is a little too small, and the standard is just a little too big, but you have to choose one or the other.
If you don’t need the power.. a 16gb 15” is tough to beat. The screen is where you get the work done, and that extra inch is huge. But the speakers are much worse than the 14”.. it sounds almost mono in comparison because they fire at the screen and blend instead of the better separation on the 14”. Then you have 120hz and much better blacks on the 14”. If I could get those 2 features on the air I’d go for that.
Go to Displays and check "Show all resolutions". There is all the increments you're looking for.
you get more granularity if you turn on "show resolutions as a list" under display>advanced, and then "show all resolutions" to get a full rundown
@@konstidog Thank you! I'll have a look at it next time I'm there.. probably Thursday.

Even 16 inches is not enough for my intensive productivity ! Because of that I always connect my M3 max with two 27 inches monitors at my workplace or one 32 inches monitor at home.
So that I think 14 inches is the best ! If you want portability you will have the maximum portability and if you want to work ? Just go to office or go home !
hence 16 inches Macbook is the worst ! It just suitable for people who must always move around and could only work outside !
Bro why would you show that Bird getting killed 😢
@gregsgadgets I feel like you haven’t answered a core question which is how much time does the new laptop save you annualized for a year or a week with this new laptop? Saving you minutes a week hours a week and if it’s just minutes which it sounds like it is then this is not an efficient use of funds For most people. They would be better served getting the M1 max or an M2 Max. It sounds like this is the core question I think no influencer or content creator can answer or has answered, they keep defaulting to artificial benchmarks, which don’t mean much in the real world.
You spent 8k on it. How much time has it saved you weekly. At least it appears to bring you joy.
You are wise
Greg is not a real world user. He is a Tuber who has to play with them all to attract and ‘entertain’ viewers to his channel
Still feel you pundits are wimps. One pound difference give me a break.
Thing is only having one host system to work with as a content creator, and making a new purchase. If you are going to use it for some years to come I feel the Apple 16-inch MacBook Pro Max with an external display is your best option.
Wrong my friend. Actually opposite. I also have a Mac Studio plugged into a beautiful Asus ProArt 27 :) so, I don’t need an other big display.
Join nearby gym bro, so you dont get uncomfortable when you putting the 16'macbook on your bag.😁
I already go to the gym lol
I only hear fan noise from both 16 and 14 when I play games. My daily use don't push them much
Just like my ex, complaining about a couple of inches
Misleading title bait for clicks. All he is talking about is VPN
everyone i know regretted getting the 16 inch
lol
It’s pretty simple. If you’re a little lady, get the 14. If you’re a medium to large sized man, get the 16. They feel proportionate to the size of human you are.
I’m 6’1 and 220lbs. The 14 feels way too small, and the 16 is a good size for me. My girlfriend is 5’7 and 140lbs. My 16 is enormous to her and the 14 is a much better size for her.
Id connect those dots but its a weird thing im 7ft 320lb and i still like the feel of the 14 though it doesnt "fit" me and the 16 feels way better size wise its a strange thing lol
@@frostgodxWe all see the world through a different filter, you know? I have a M3 Pro 14 and a M2 Pro 16 sitting right beside me right now. Performance wise, they’re almost identical. However, every time I pick up the 14, it doesn’t feel like a $2200 device. It feels more like a $1300 M2 Air 13. The 16 feels like a $2500 device though.
I’m sending the 14 back because I simply don’t like how small and cheap it feels in my hands.
U make me laugh like other utuber.. u loved the 16 M1 then changed to 14 inch. Now u got 16 inch again! How can we trust you when you do the comparison since u keep changing your mind with videos. actually at the end he praises his older 14 inch quite a lot... seems like he loved it so much it makes the 16 inch m3 max sitting next to it seem like a lesser device... to me it seems like he actually prefers the 14 inch format
