    I was not expecting to spend almost 3 hours today, watching a review on a franchise I never really thought about much at all.
    But I am CERTAINLY not complaining. Genuinely love the background information on how the game came to be in the first place. Gives a lot more personality to all those people in the credits one usually doesn't think twice about.
    Great video as always!

    PLEASE review the rest of the Sands of Time trilogy. As a newcomer to the series in the year 2024, it’s refreshing to see a new perspective on this classic series for those who played it so long ago like me and many others. I’d love to see your take on Warrior Within, which has been very divisive to many players ever since its release.

    Great review! I really appreciated learning about the history of the game, as it helped clear up many of the games design choices. I also gained a greater appreciation for Farah, who I didn't think much of before. I blame missing some of the banter due to the poor audiowork and the elevator fight being frustrating.
    I really enjoy Sands of Time, though the poor combat keeps me from calling it a favorite. Having to stab every enemy is a cool gimmick at first, but it quickly outstays its welcome, and every fight lasts way too long. It doesn't help that you only fight 4 enemies at a time, and usually the same set of enemies in an area. There's a reason why good action games shake up both enemy quantity and quality throughout the experience.
    The platforming is still my favorite aspect of the game, and a reason I still replay it from time to time. Parkour platformers are surprisingly rare. Sure, open world games use it as a fun way to get around, but I wouldn't find anything like Sands of Times Library or Tower climb or Bathhouse in Assassins Creed. And most Indie platformers focus more on putting their own spin on Mario or Sonic's movesets than the Princes (which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I recently played Pseudoregalia, and I'm amazed at the crazy movement the game allows you pull off if you got the finesse for it).
    I understand the Prince doesn't have the same level of freedom that Mario allows, or the insane speed that Sonic at his best provides. Yet the fluidity of the Princes moves when chaining together wall runs and jumps and flips, and how it can be used for obstacle courses, avoiding traps, and solving puzzles is a ton of fun and something I've yet to see in another game. It helps Sands of Time stick out, but I don't think it has to be unique in this regard.

    I recall the walljumping requiring some precision. Can't say if this was a skill issue or a pc port issue for you, but I didn't have problems with it when I replayed it last year on my ps2.
    Good video, liked your points.
    For me it's a very well preserved game. Sure combat gets a bit grindy. Bats are annoying. Little bits like that.
    I'd say learning to counter is pretty important for some late game encounters at least. Eases things a lot. It's a beautiful game and 3d platforming is surprisingly good.
    Would be cool to see your take on Warrior Within and Two Thrones. "The ubisoft trilogy". I think Warrior Within was a good mechanical upgrade. Same fun acrobatics, somewhat improved combat.
    Sure the edge was so comical even back in the day, almost none of the charm that Sands of Time has. Warrior Within gets everything else right at least.
    Two Thrones I wasn't a big fan of. Some bad sequel stuff in that one. Worked fine enough I suppose.

    @vanyadolly Před měsícem

    Thanks for this. It's a rare treat to see so much love shown to one of my all-time favourite games. But I feel like I have to come to the defence of the mouse and keyboard here. 😂 I've played through the game (and the sequels) several times with no issues. The descending wall jumps are just a matter of timing (no directional keys). It's different that when you're going up, which might throw some people off. Not being able to rewind time immediately after the last attempt is also a game mechanic.
    The combat is definitively the weakest part of the game. Some of the fights are hairy, but it's mostly a case of figuring out which attack certain enemies can't evade. Like If you can't vault over them, do the wall attack. Aside from the repetitiveness, I feel like it's pretty well balanced in that it's not too hard once you figure it out, but a room full of the big blue guys still makes me nervous.
    The library is my favourite part of the game, and at least for me the platforming puzzles have held up with every replay. It's the way those silent sections allow you to feel how eerie and desolate the palace is, and how wonderful it is to have someone there keeping you company. Every game with puzzle sections should come with a companion like Farah.
    I think the romance is handled beautifully. Yes, it's quick, but they're two naive teenagers with romantic ideals going through a very traumatic experience where they're the only survivors. They not only have to rely on each other, but are terrified of being left alone. Farah reveals her feelings after she's been separated from the Prince and attacked by more sand monsters than she could handle. It's not intended to be a mature love. Likewise, the prince is immature and insecure enough to interpret the visions as Farah betraying him.

    While I didn't like the darker tone of the two sequels, I will say that the way the trilogy ended was quite clever. They managed to connect it back to the beginning of the first game even more.

    Man, I do enjoy this video and you've done a great job reviewing it, but your issues with the wall kick jump have to be a skill issue. I do remember they were tough, but 2+ hours of attempts which ultimately failed? You also critique combat, but it's pretty clear you're not that great at it, there were so many times you could've dodged the floor level swing by jumping up, yet you didn't and died.

    damn dude, so much upfront info is so subjective, calling it "notoriously glitchy port" and "only playable with a controller" is so disrespectful, like u never played it on pc as i understand, i played it since my childhood, on win xp, 7 and 10 and it always worked fine(even if there were any troubleshooting involved it was short and simple)
    1. I never played it with controller because keyboard and mouse layout is intuitive and switching to controller would be just needles brain rerouting(but yeah that's for people who already played it with m&k) just a personal preference thing, not a requirement.
    2. Combat didn't give me trouble when i was a kid(i beat that shit when I was 8) and right now it is easy to see that to be good u just abuse spacebar and yes you can "dodgeroll" out of everything(backwards cartwheel move saves you from most attacks.)
    3. Your problem with downward wall jumps is strictly about your inability to time it right, i shit you not your inability to do it made me so spiteful that i downloaded the game from steam, downloaded the save, played through to that moment and made it first try, also recorded that sequence(so I can show you proofs). But i do remember that sometimes it didn't work but it wasn't so bad, and I think you can fail it on the last few jumps and just suffer medium fall damage.
    4. Criticizing historical inaccuracies is a low hanging fruit in a tale, like it's not based on real life events whatsoever, and picking apart plot points to deform them to your liking signifies lack of common decency, game wasn't tailored to your specific liking, people surely checked the script and made their best, no one is perfect and things you mentioned wouldn't make it better(I felt the same when you picked apart polar express, just stop making up "better plot points" in your mind and it will shorten videos length)
    5. Missinfo with digital rereleases not having og prince of persia game, it was scrapped from pc version right from the start
    6. I think you've haven't used move that allows you to spring into enemies from the wall(not like it's needed but it helps)

    • @vanyadolly
      @vanyadolly Před měsícem

      Yeah, I've been playing and replaying the game with keyboard&mouse since 2003, and most of the "glitches" he pointed out were not glitches. 😅 Although I understand the game must be really frustrating if you don't happen to find the right attacks to deal with enemies. I wouldn't know how to clear the game without the wall attack.

      They are definitely more competent now, than they were back then. However, Ubisoft is remaking this "2000's garbage" and I can tell you it is way more wanted than ANYTHING Ubisoft has made in a long time. I know for a fact I'll buy the remake on release, I know many other people will be too. In terms of story, character and charm there is nothing they have made like this, even the sequels to this game are not as well thought of. Though the combat was terrible in this game back then and it's even worse now, it boils down to just "jump about until you get a lucky hit, rewind when you die."
