To answer your question, the animatronics are forced back to the stage at 6 AM sharp which is why Freddy doesn’t just kill you anyway. They’re only programmed to roam freely from 12 to 6.
The first game is so special. It took something that was at the time super unique and make it real scary. Fun to look back on this. Great video!
I liked the games for what they were, but I never bought the idea of the story being this well thought out and complex narrative.
What an unexpected surprise, but a good one none the less. I hope for more on the later entries.
This was a really solid look at the game! I played through the first game not that long ago, and had quite a similar experience. Though I found the higher-difficulty exploitative strategies for nights 6/7 to be fun in their own way, enough to make up for the lack of tension that breaking the AI causes. And I'm at a similar impasse - I was able to beat 4/20 in time for a refund, but I feel torn between wanting to toy around with the lets play bait of my teen years, and supporting a terrible dude.
I know you said you weren't interested in future games, but I do think you'd offer a really solid perspective on future entries. Unsurprisingly most of the people who bother to cover the newer games tend to be devout fans/haters, and there's not much in the way of new perspectives critically breaking down the failing horror of the series. It's an issue I find myself thinking of a lot, and you touched on it here quite nicely.
Thanks! I can't see myself doing a full look at the franchise, and I haven't played any of them other than the first, but from having watched people play through the later games I imagine I'd probably find things to like about 2 and 3 in terms of mechanics and presentation. 4 onward would be diminishing returns the more stagnated the gameplay became, the more convoluted the plot became, the more the tone shifted away from horror. And I'd probably give Security Breach a pass for at least trying something different.
@@monotonallizardHonestly if you should play one game after the very first is certainly 4, that game is the only one that mantains most if not all the horror elements of the first entry, the designs may be a little goofy but they're well presented and are not the focus of the game's horror.
Great video! I was in university when this came out and it was really fun seeing this one spread by word of mouth before blowing up on youtube. The game was genuinely unique, fun, and mysterious when it came out. I really respected it at the time for how pared back the gameplay and presentation was compared to the million Source engine indie horror games of the era. We had a great time playing it on a movie theater screen one night at the theater I worked at on campus. Unfortunately unless you really start exploiting the game mechanics, then the constant game overs and retries accompanied with the same animatronic screams every time get really grating and unfun. Good points on the creator at the end of the video, too.
👌
Thank you for refrencing Stephanie's Chipper video. It's so funny to look back on all that happened on both creators lives since that review.
I was 11 when this game was the big shiny new thing and I used to watch letsplays of it all day long so I will always have a soft spot for it, but I'm also kinda resentful because it's directly responsible for shit like Garten of Banban and Poppy Playtime and all these other predatory games aimed at kids designed to get them to beg their parents to buy plushies and books with the game's lore™ or something
Big respect to bringing up Scott's dirty laundry, too many people are happy to brush that under the rug.
Stephanie Sterling 😂
I really don't think a Scott Cawthan hit piece was necessary in a FNAF 1 review on how well the game holds up, death of the author and all that.
Death of the Author allows us to condemn the creator because it doesn't diminish the work.
I'd say including that information is important. It explains why we might not get more reviews of this series, and gives context to why some people might want to support or not support the game after all these years.
Honestly, I wish more game reviews would include interesting information like this about the game's creator.
@@amostyx Its irrelevant
@@tseh3 People are acting as if he donated to a Nazi party when it was just people like Trump. It's not swept under the rug. It just didn't matter. The only reason people did care is because one or two of those people hold some not-so-good beliefs. Twitter especially cared because in their eyes: Republican = bad. At least Scott had a spine and didn't apologize for what he believed in or pretend to be something or believe something that he isn't or doesn't.
It. Sounds. Like. You. Record. Every. Word. Separately. Then. Edit. Them. Together.
Yeah, can't believe a channel called Monotonal Lizard would be a bit montone in speech cadence lol
@@MrsIggyKirkland It's the over-pronunciation of every hard consonant that bugs me, his cadence is fine and his vid's are good, just earache to listen to. I'll mute and use subtitles in future. 😁👍
