    I get what Roy says but Messi literally did the same thing, he transformed his play style. Now that Messi doesn't have great passers behind him like Xavi or Iniesta, he transformed himself from a finisher to one of the best passers in the football history all while he still scores a lots of goals.

    It depends what you admire more in a human being. Having a lot of natural talent at something and working tirelessly to get the absolute maximum out of it is admirable in anyones book. But it doesn't eclipse a natural gift that is beyond everyone elses because when that is witnessed in its purest form, it blows everything else away. And that is Messi. Maradona was the same, he didn't make the most of it always because of his life issues but he had something nobody else in his day had naturally.
    Messi has been that guy throughout his career. Nobody else has what he has naturally but he doesn't always align to it which gives the illusion that someone else matches him. A 10/10 Messi performace is still beyond what anyone else can do.

    Messi - better assist provider statistically speaking, better balance, better dribbling success, better shot conversion
    Ronaldo - more able with both feet, tactically able to play in a bigger variety of systems, better header of the ball, more athletic (overhead kicks), better motivator for his team mates, better penalty conversion (Messi has missed more than 20 in his career), has won trophies with four teams instead of one, better variety of dribbling (esp at MUFC).
    Sometimes Messi, sometimes Ronaldo. When both of them have finished their careers, it will become clearer.

    • @vespasiancloscan7077
      @vespasiancloscan7077 Před 3 lety +8

      Some of the things you said don't really matter, and some others are plain wrong.
      Ronaldo isn't more tactically flexible at all. That Messi only played in possession based systems at Barca has to do with the club's philosophy. Messi is also effective as the #10 in counter attacking teams, as seen at various points with Argentina and Luis Enrique's Barcelona. If the wingers and strikers make the runs, Messi will deliver perfect passes. Ronaldo is arguably less tactically flexible than Eto'o or Robben, never mind Messi. He could play on the right during his United days, but that's only a small part of his career. Since ~2014 he only played as a winger/second striker. Not even as a #9, a role in which he's generally been awful in. It showed whenever he played there for Portugal and was flanked by 2 true wingers. At Real he had Benzema to complement him and do the actual #9 work. It's no coincidence Benzema had his best season in 7 years once Ronaldo left.
      Messi's ambidexterity is underrated. Maybe he lagged behind Ronaldo on this criterion early in their careers, but nowadays he's able to do things with his weak foot Ronaldo could never do with his strong one. See him vs. Neuer in 2015.
      The motivator stuff is just rubbish talk. Ronaldo has a history of being a bit of an asshole towards his team mates, even making statements like "if everybody was on my level, we would've won". Of course it's not all black and white, but neither it is with Messi. Critics will be quick to point at pictures of Messi looking down to the ground as proof of bad body language, but they'll ignore the times when Messi shouts and claps and does all of the silly stuff people think make Ronaldo a good leader. The truth is that neither are really captain material like Puyol, Casillas, Ramos, Gerrard, Keane etc. were. That Barca showed bad attitude against Roma, Liverpool or Bayern was on the managers. If the manager is completely clueless, no amount of running and desire will save you.
      Overhead kicks and "variety of dribbling" are aesthetically pleasing, sure. Still pretty irrelevant. Zlatan is known for his acrobatic finishes & he's good at them because he does taekwondo, but the underlying truth is that he's simply bad with his head. If you score, you score. Ronaldo's clearly better in the air than Messi, but whether his finishes are acrobatic or just simple headers doesn't change anything. Same with the dribbles. The point is to get past the opponent, not to do tricks. Do tricks if they help you, but if you don't need them there's no point to them.

    Anyone with any kind of football knowledge knows that Messi is better than Ronaldo as a footballer.
    People compare Messi and Ronaldo with goal scoring statistics, yet Messi also has the most Assists for a football player, a better goal scoring ratio, is one of the best playmakers of all time with an unbelievable passing ability, also is one of the best dribblers of all time.
    Not to discredit Ronaldo, he’s been great at what he does on the pitch, and that’s score goals.
    He’s also transformed his playing style over the years, going from a winger to a striker, but his overall footballing ability doesn’t come close to Messi’s.
    Which it doesn’t have to, since he’s a different type of player, but because Messi can do so much more than goalscoring, he’s in his own league for me.

People can bang on all they like, but a lot of these things will just come down to people's individual preferences in what they like most in players, and even that might change from time to time. There is no one greatest player. There's just brilliance of all different kinds and combinations. There's plenty we could take from Messi to make Ronaldo better, and vice-versa. Football fans say Messi. United fans say Ronaldo. You can't save them, they don't wanna be saved.

    Technically messi is best ever while cr7 technically is not up there with the all time greats (he cant pass like the all time GOAT's or dribble like them or have their balance or vision) but what him and messi have achieved and their consistency (stats wise, GOALS and breaking so many records) has never been seen before, which puts them right at the very top career and achievement wise (maybe cr7 just edges it with achievements)
