      Thanks Dave. We had Summer weather Saturday but now this week we are back to more spring like temps. My dad is doing good, just on light duty now. Have a good week and thanks for the support!

    Hi Rodger!!😀😀
    If you have trouble connecting your couplers. You need to relieve the pressure in your lines. On the Male side put a rag on it and bang it on a flat spot on the loader or grapple. On the female side you take a rag over a punch and drive it lightly inside with a hammer to relieve the pressure. Then they will work. I have had to do that many times over the years to get them hooked.

    Always nice to stay ahead of your wood piles and be more efficient. Now you have a nice little pile you can chip away at when you get some free time. As for when I can’t connect hydraulic fittings.. it only happens to me when there is a massive temperature change… so maybe once or twice in the spring and same in the fall:. What I do is jist crack a line loose but I crack a line that is a JIC fitting so that it will always re/seal.. all the fittings near my loader couplers are JIC on my BX so it only takes a second to crack one loose and tighten it back up again then I’m all set. Those IBC totes are nice but I agree $100-$150 is premium.. I get really nice Polly plastic pallets for free from a friend of mine, he usually brings me 2-4 a year and I’m very thankful for that because they will last a lifetime and are hard to find.. plus they can be picked up with the forks from all 4 sides which is a HUGE perk for storing various items on them. 👍🏻

      That is good advice for looking for a JIC fitting.

      Yeah, it takes a while to get ready. It would be nice to have a place to leave things so you could be ready.

    When you are laying out your logs. Put one log lengthwise in the middle of the logs to hold them up off the ground. It will make it a lot easier to cut without hitting the ground.

  • @Darryl603
    @Darryl603 Před 2 lety +1

    I think you should hold each log off the ground with the grapple and cut them all in one area near the splitter.
    Thanks for the video

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  Před 2 lety +1

      That is what we normally do. That is not very productive with one person cutting though.

    If the pressure is in the hoses that are attached to the implement such as your grapple it is possible / probable that the pressure built up after the hoses were disconnected from the tractor. How can that be? You set the implement down, disconnect the hoses, detach and drive away. While the implement sits there the grapple 'settles' the weight of the grapple movable arm trying to fully fully fully close and thus moving the cylinder and so increasing the pressure in the hydraulic lines. I think it takes only a fractional bit of movement to increase the pressure in the hoses to a point where they can no longer be connected.
    When this happens to me on my 4 way bucket I connect the one hose that is connectable then raise the loader arms and tilt the bucket (dump) all the way down. This cause one half of the bucket to try and swing open which moves the cylinder a bit and so lowers the pressure in the hose. If that doesn't work I do the opposite and curl the bucket all the way.
    Worst come to worst I have to switch back and forth between the two and/or bump the switch to open/close the bucket even while there is only one hose connected.
    A clumsy explanation but the principle would be that manually pushing the cylinder closed will boost pressure in one of the lines and decrease pressure in the other line. Pulling the cylinder open will do the opposite. In theory. As both lines are sealed closed by the fittings it is virtually impossible to raise or drop the pressure in either line except maybe there is a tiny bit of expansion allowed by the rubber hoses.

      I think it build up from the difference in temperature. One time I got my dad to pick up on the grapple lid while I connected. I like your idea of rolling the implement.

    In the past I have used a soft faced dead blow hammer to smack the pin and so relieve the pressure in a hydraulic line. Down side is the fluid sprays out in all directions. To keep the spray contained I used a hose clamp to secure a short sleeve of pipe around the head of the hammer so that the face was then, effectively, partially recessed. That worked ok but ya still get oil all over the hand that is holding the hose.

      @TractorTech  Před 2 lety

      Unfortutantely I hev flat faced couplers so there isnt a ball sticking out to hit. That would work on an ag type connector.

      @@TractorTech Perhaps something like a modified valve spring compressor or something that looks kind of like that. Essentially a C clamp with fork on the fixed end and pin on the adjustable end to press in the flat face. Or a large pair of channel lock type pliers modified to have that fork on one jaw and a pin on the other.

    Log grapple and root grapple are not the same at all! A log grapple like yours can tackle any log and will actually pinch it and not only hold it loosely. Being narrow helps get the log you want. About the hoses, you can gently tap the poppet of the male hose to release pressure. A rubber mallet can be good for that. As for the female end, that is a bit tricky to push that poppet. Maybe with an aluminum punch then. Thanks!

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  Před 2 lety

      It is way easier to pick up a log with the log grapple too. I have flat face couplers so I would need a (brass) punch for both ends.

    don’t know where you live at friend, i know here in wv, i see them all the time on facebook marketplace here in wv from prices from $25 to $60 bucks, yeah $ 100 to $150 bucks is way to much for totes. another awesome video as always man.

      Thanks! $25 is reasonable for them. I think some are asking more than $150. A new car wash came to town and I emailed them about totes with no luck.
