    Lenses used: a junky 28-105 f4.5 (shows how great the camera is in low light) and a 50mm f1.4 for a couple of shots.

    Incredible footage. The shot at 1:19 with the moon is amazing. I love the footage this camera is putting out. I like the size and the fact that people probably assume you're just snapping photos.

    @kespi I'd say 90% of that was shot on a junky 28-105 f4.5. Just shows how great the camera is in low light. Additional shots were with a 50mm f1.4.

    photobygillilan: Sorry, I didn't see your question until now. This was edited on Sony's Vegas Pro. However, forget Vegas Pro for HD editing unless you have a 64 bit machine - while I was on 32 bit, the renders would crash after the projects grew to a certain complexity/size. No such problems with 64 bit.

    Glad you liked it. Some shots feature the infamous Canon 50mm f1.4 Prime, but most are a boring old 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 lens. Pretty awful lens for night work, which shows how good the 5D *can* be at low light images. Now, if only we had manual controls ... :-)

    Wow, the lowlight preformance is amazing. I recently bought a Panasonic AG HMC 150. Although I'm satisfied. This camera's quality is equal or better and it costs $1,000 less. Only thing the 150 has over this is Audio controls, inputs/outputs/ looks. I can't imagine showing up to film a wedding with a still SLR. They would be like, "I thought you said you were a videographer."

    I like the night shooting and I like that you did some with the 50mm f1.4. I just did a series on 5D Filmmaking and one clip is all about the 50mm f1.4. Cheers.

    It did it automatically - the night shots are WELL within the range of the camera. I should point out that the firmware has now been updated, bringing manual controls. But this wasn't the case when this clip was shot.

    The video looks great. Love the depth of field. :D
    Did the camera allows total manual control of the Shuter, Iso and Exposure?
    I ask this, because some images from yout footage and other give me the impression that the camera make some compensations in the shutter speed or in the exposure.
    Hope you can Help me.

    @omone00 I just exported as an mp4 with a similar bitrate to the original. The blur might be coming from poor conversion by youtube from another file format, or too much compression in your original (youtube will always recompress).

    photobygillilan: I am using Final Cut Studio 3 / Final Cut Pro 7 with 5D mark II. I like the software very much. My recommendation: If you don't have a Mac to run the software, get a Mac now (the faster the better, but entry level Macs work (Macbook, Mac mini), high investment for Mac Pro is not necessary if you can live with some waiting time with video rendering). What you get for what you pay ratio is with FCP 7 very high (IMHO), about the same as with Logic Studio (excellent value).

  • @4styler
    @4styler Před 14 lety

    nice shot at 2:24 of the shadows. Curious to know what lenses you shot with?

  • @Yarnmaker
    @Yarnmaker  Před 15 lety

    It's lens element reflection. This is a common issue with bright points of light on a lens that is wide open, and is a typical fault to be expected with EOS 5D Mark II videos because of the cam's automatic-only setup pushes to the lowest F Stop possible. See my site for a discussion on the problems this cam has currently!

    very nice colour!.....i was very close to buying this camera, but ended up getting canon xlh1 and use a letus adaptor for the depth of field..........but the 5d must be super portable yes?.........i got to carry a hell of alot of gear!....anyway nice video!

  • @Yarnmaker
    @Yarnmaker  Před 13 lety

    @Art543 You mean the lights in the sky? Poor quality zoom lenses often reflect bright light points at the diagonally opposite side of the frame. Its the reflection of the driver with his high beam lights on.

    @xtidwellx1 You'll probably have to shoot wide open at 1.4. Will make for some interesting images if you're good at focus. Otherwise you might have to resort to shutter speeds slower than 1/60th (which will make the images blurry in movement). Good luck!

    @GIORGOSGUNIT I'm actually trying not to buy into Canon EF mount lenses for film work as PL mount cameras will soon be out I think. I hire lenses in the mean time. I like the 28-70mm f 1.4 and a 70-200mm f.14 IS for dolly work. See my reply to kespi below for lenses used in this clip.

    Why would someone buy an entire computer just to use one piece of video editing software? lol ...especially if you're talking about a 1500-2000 dollar investment At Least!
    Keep your PC, get After Effects which is miles better in terms of video editing AND it does advanced compositing if you're into making movies or 3D animations, works with most Photoshop filters, does special effects and camera tracking in 3D, etc.
    Get that and a fast PC for $800 and save your money.
