First thought end world war 2 in first sec then thought 56to easy with all flags what looked like colours different countries yeah was that first year blue Harris trains ran John d
Mostly FJ Holden's but one FE Holden seen. So only shortly after the July 1956 release of the FE Holden. VWs imported from 1953 in small numbers but each year saw a doubling of the numbers on the road here, then eventually around 1958 made in the Clayton VW factory with higher local content than most local cars. So second half of 1956. When you see enough normal cars in a scene it is a good dating method.
I said 55 but never seen greater wealth knowledge in all things Melbourne as yours John d so I shall keep reading see always enjoy your comments on every thing rail cheers John
I'm going 1956, but could be later. Plenty of FJ Holdens and it looks like Olympic Games decorations. BUT there may be later FE Holdens at 0.25 and 0.38 secs and at 0.14 there is a VW. Is it an oval rear window or the big window which came out in 1958? Tough call.
whatever the year it is, I wish our beloved CBD looked like that today.
'56 is my best guess. Plenty of early 50's Ford Customlines too.
1956 i see olympic rings.
I was going to say 1956 too for the same reason
Olympic rings where? Watched it a few times, but can't see them anywhere..

and nice to see the halfcab in the distance heading up to Clifton Hill
An FE Holden @ .27 so has to be late 1956 or into 1957 as taxis were all FJ’s still.
Melbourne Olympics 1956

There were FE holdens provided by GMH for the Olympic officials so I guess there were a number of FE’s on the roads at that time?
1956
1956, close to Olympics.
1957 or 1958. FE Holden and VW Beetle in shot.
FE’ s came out in ‘56 so that could be the year.
Absolutely certain this is late 1956.
FE Holden was released July 1956 and the Olympics were late in the year .

Looks like mid fifties 1955 or 56?
Yep definitely 1956! I wouldnt mind going back to 56 actually. At least we wouldn't have bloody Daniel Andrews.
But you would have Henery Bolt.
