The law is you can’t remove a safety feature from a car so if it came out with airbags they have to stay, if they didn’t come out with airbags then it doesn’t matter, same goes with abs, traction control etc etc.
This is why I've tried to make my car a sleeper. Stock exterior, roof racks, stock wheels, Not a single mod to make it look any different, it's on coilovers but they're set at max height which is pretty close to stock. Even if you open the bonnet, the engine bay is pretty stock looking as long as you don't look too hard. Only obvious defect in the engine bay is the catch can. if you know what you're looking at you can tell it's an aftermarket turbo but most cops wont know that, wastegate and screamer are hidden behind the stock heat shielding.. yet to get pulled over in it, but hopefully it works out
You are calm as good on you for keeping your composure, im just listening to you explain your story and I’m fuming to be honest, if those cops had balls they would go out and catch real criminals
I would agree with you except that they are there to protect people. One way they can protect people is with preventative action. In the unlikely chance that this gentleman is involved with a major car crash, the lack of airbag would be a huge hindrance to the protective capabilities of the the vehicle. Most of the time police are there for good, but they do make mistakes and it can be annoying. It's a completely fair defect, and the fact that Mr Brashnarev is aware of the laws makes it a more pitiful situation. The fact that he is being honest, realistic and accepting of his circumstances make the police's behavior more and more irritating and less understandable. I think that if he is making risks like the airbag delete then he is only endangering himself. Interesting video 👍
Me too in the 1990s M4 was still being upgraded I raced an unmarked 😂 45km/h over designated 70km zone $695 fine and loss of licence ! Paid fine Got caught driving in Doonside NSW (unlicenced) fined again went court fought it and WON 🥇 😂 Ah those were the days !!
Went through the same exact thing. Was taking a mate to learn manual in my old N/A 04 Impreza (Drug dealer car in the eyes of the law) and was pulled into an already full RBT, had 4 cops circle my car while a younger bloke took my drug and alcohol test (negative ofc). All the cops piss off except the younger bloke and he starts explaining that the sergeant present was very not impressed with my car, and wanted him to at least give me a defect on the spot. Went through all the stupid little things like shift pattern sticker, window tint yada yada, since my car wasn't that low and didn't really break any defects they spent at least 20 minutes blabbering on about how all these things on my car are "almost illegal" while I was sitting there big smile just trying to get out of there haha. Had been sweared at and yelled at and I was legit sitting there confused how I fucked up. Ended up having to explain rear window tint was legal and when they realized I was a waste of time they sent me off. Still gives me chills how big of a stick can be up their asses at times even when your being nice, I was lucky to be driving off with my mate laughing I'd say.
I almost got defected once, and from what i have known, if the car comes with air bag factory, you need to have air bag in your car if your car is modified without engineering certificate, that at least in NSW, i am pretty sure VIC is the same.
Had mine 3 years and been pulled over once, not P plate legal 200kw. All the factory safety features work with original wheels, didn't look at anything except my licence.
VICPOL are pretty much useless these days, some stuff makes sense like seatbelts etc because they endanger OTHERS. No airbag endangers yourself only yet are still considered dangerous to other road users. Living in Australia is pretty much like rolling a dice every time you get pulled over in any modified car, either old mate breathos you and lets you go or some bloke gives you a 9763 word novel on why driving 2mm under legal height is worse than committing a war crime then proceeds to hand you 1300 dollars in fines. Our word against theirs most of the time so unfortunately we're shit out of luck.
Bro Love the channel But you can’t compare a car with an airbag and one without if yours came with one from factory and you removed it it’s a defect simple ! GQ patrol as you mentioned didn’t from factory so no you can’t complain fine is legit. New subscriber here keep it up good to see you admit fault. 😊
One of my AUs got some minor defects like pod filter and less threads on the rear tyres. Changed all of that and paid $50 at vic roads and got cleared...
100% for the steering wheel. The car manufactured with the air bag. A GQ was not, that’s the difference there. As for the rest, pretty poor effort on their part. Keep on smiling man.
Pod filters are more for noise. They do provide more air. They do provide a little performance boost, but not enough to warrant a defect. The camber is correct. The airbag part is correct. The pedal thing is stupid.
Hey Peter. Yeah don't worry. I've been defected by the highway cops in Mount Gambier in my AU Falcon sedan " for having a left hand front panel damage from a collision I had with an overseas driver at a round about - They wanted to turn right so they should've been in the right lane and not the left one. I was in the right lane but I wanted to go straight - That makes me extremely Angry when they come over here and drive like they know nothing. Another thing that I've been defected for is front bumper+left rear quarter side panel and spoiler damage. Both front seats being a little loose + Seatbelt unsecured. Even my mechanic is very very angry over the whole thing too. I have already got things fixed on the car last time and it is past the whole thing last time so don't worry your not alone buddy. I have subscribed first time mate. The car you remind me of is a 2002 Hyundai Accent 4 Door hatchback - Manual. The associated song for that car is from Cat Stevens - Wild world... Take care from - William. Mount Gambier-South Australia.
In NSW once a car reaches a certain age (5 years I think) it needs to pass an annual inspection for road worthiness before you can renew the registration. The question that I would ask myself if I owned it would be is the vehicle going to pass that inspection. From what you highlighted my experience tells me that I would probably end up with a long list of what needed to be fixed. You cant just take it somewhere else either because the inspection is entered into the RTAs data base highlighting if it passed or why it failed so they know exactly whats going on.
Unfortunately, AU BA BF also old commos get a bad rep due to people putting overly loud and very annoying straight through systems in them among other mods and also people often drive like fuckwits in them on public roads so they get allot of complaints from the general public about these types of vehicles so the police become biased when they pull them over. I owned a BF MK2 Futura (I miss it should have kept it) and would always get pulled over, I sold it and got a Mercedes Benz C class 4 years ago and have not once been pulled over in the merc.
One thing about the whole “p plate restricted vehicle”, yes it has the 130kw/t restriction, but you can’t have any engine mods that need to be certified/engineered. Your exhaust and Intake are fine, but I’m not sure about the cam
The camber one is half fair, the air bag/steering wheel is definitely fair for road use. I agree its annoying because you can't change the steering wheel but the law is the same in every state. Even some wheels that you do change out are illegal because they need to be a certain size and need to be under australian standard. You can have the argument that other cars don't have airbags so why can't yours, but the law is the law. Pod filters have been illegal for years in most states as well. The lights on the dash will always attract the cops attention and any state that has roadies will fail based on that everytime. I had my ute defected once for my clutch pedal cover not staying on as well, its a typical ford thing. They are only $25, so just replace them. I have had cars defected, alot of them i dont agree with but honestly, most here are legit. If you want a car for the track, have one but don't drive it on the road, you're only asking for trouble especially when you don't try to hide it with the camber and mismatched wheels. I actually think you're lucky they let you drive it home because they could have grounded you there and then. Take it as a lesson in life, keep it legal on the street, they mostly leave you alone and let you off with a warning.
With the warning lights for abs and coolant take the dash cluster out and get someone to remove the lights so you don't get in trouble for it again. In my brothers ed gli we removed the coolan, washer bottle, abs and another light because they where pissing him off. Best thing to do first though is get them to do it on a crap cluster so you don't fuck up a good one
Only problem with that is if he needs a roadworthy to clear the defect, they’re gonna check that all warning lights come on when the ignition is turned on. Won’t pass if some don’t come on at all.
Try getting a speeding ticket which carried a $440 fine and 3 points. Only to see the speed written on the ticket was 58km in a 50km area. Only to go and video the whole street you had been allegedly speeding on is a 60km street. Even taking the video and the ticket to the police station and being told I had 2 options. Cop the ticket and pay the fine or have it taken to court and present the judge with my evidence. I was then told that I would have to pay for the officers day in court and that it’s a full day’s pay plus all the court fees. I said even though I had been wrongfully charged and fined and they said that’s the risk you would be taking. After leaving the station absolutely furious I got home and talked to my wife and she said we would talk about it when I wasn’t so angry about it. Then a couple of days later she said that she had payed the fine and not to worry about it because it could end up being and costing us a lot more because we took it to court.
Faaaar out man $800 fine for an $800 car how tf they do these things $200 fine is high enough- Vic seems super shitty to have any modifications. In Sydney they have this event Beat the Blue and you race real police in police cars! Gotta try it bro
Older cars didn't have airbags going back to19 50s 1960s, 1970s and 1980s I grew up in the 80s and 90s when I got my licence in the 90s half the cars were from the 1970s not so many cars like that these days but what about people who buy and restore old cars what can the cops say about that expect them to install airbags just a observation on what the cop said was pretty stupid I reckon.
Any cars that came from the factory with airbags are required to have them (probably some law somewhere stating all new cars past a certain year are required to have them). If it didn’t come with airbags from the factory, then they’re not required to be fitted.
Air pod filters are allowed non oil type dry only if no other modifications are done to any of the air intake. You cant delete the box thats a modification to the box and has to stay but you can change the filter type inside the box.
Yeah, it sucks when you get defected. Having said that, this thing really shouldn't be on the road with that much neg camber and no airbag. The pedal pads were really nit picking. As for the too low bit, if they didn't run the wheel under it, and in the correct position on flat level ground, which no public road actually is flat, that was just being mean to you. When I was much younger, my eb Ghia was 105mm at the lowest point, which is the flange of the cat. I have been defected once for that, (only had too low on the defect, nothing else)took it into get the roadworthy, with both the petrol and LPG tanks full, just to be sure, the roadworthy guy measured it, cursed a few times because it was 5mm above min height. Wrote out my roadworthy, specifically wrote on it that the vehicle was 105mm at it's lowest and was legal. I ended up getting the fine for driving a defective vehicle revoked. Still cost me the rwc fee and wasting my day to get that done. Might be time to get a trailer to take it to drift events?
I've owned a decent variety of cars and bikes and one thing I will say is the pigs purposely target falcons and commodores,I swear when I had my au I would get pulled over, drug and breath tested probly 2-3 times a week, but I can drive mums Nissan Juke over the speed limit slightly straight past highway patrol and they don't even look at it..I like commodores and falcons but where I live I just can't own one unless I wanna be harassed

I thought the kilowatt rating for a p plater was a 175 kw per ton when did I change or am I uneducated

Must’ve been Stud Rd 😭😭😭
Boundary Rd next to Costco!
Everyone's au has a radiator light on
All about the p plates soon as they see that game over you could have a brand new car and they will still pick something because you’re a p plater it sucks mate 👍👍
