Where was the work part?
I can understand having a loco on each end, but why have one in the middle? Power move? Convenience in the yard? That's a lot of power for just two flats/gons, even with the stiff grades. Anyone know?
What this likely is, is that they are transferring the locomotive in the middle for repair in another yard, since this engine is inoperable, the wagons could be either to allow for enough braking wheels to meet NYC standards, or to match incompatible couplers together.
@@BaileyChap Thanks for your reply, BaileyChap. If it is a loco transfer, it makes sense that the cars are idlers to distribute weight, or to add braking power.
Are those locos DPU-capable or do they need a crew for the middle one?
The middle loco is not under power as it is being transferred.
They should have kept N2 in its red scheme. N1 is faded and in horrible shape
