I don't care much for Sean Shemmel's personality outside of his work, but I will always admire the dedication he put into that moment. One of the best English voice acting moments in dub history.

@@veiregor The design is great, but it doesn't really make Goku that much stronger and drains energy really fast, it's the epitome of diminishing returns, more flash than substance, which is why it's rarely ever used in the series outside of Gotenks.

Super Saiyan 3 was so strong that it's energy was felt accross another universe in the realm of gods
He learned Super Saiyan 3 in otherworld with king kai (not from the filler arc), where he unlocked Super Saiyan 3, the proof is in how King Kai knows what Goku was about to do and kept telling him not to do it because it would drain all the time he had left on Earth.

I don't think it was king Kai. It was the grand Kai that taught him. Thats what Goku learned after he won the tournament and won the opportunity to train with the grand Kai. The old man with the glasses. I just assumed the reason why king Kai knows about it is either goku showed him or he was there for the training as Goku's old teacher. Or king Kai just assumed that he would be stronger. As well look at what he said, it could easily just be assumed that he noticed his energy output and was like you gotta stop putting up so much energy because it's draining your time on earth. Not necessarily addressing the transformation but the energy output.

The most powerful form of goku in dbz. SSj3 is a 400 times powerup. nEven though he held back he shook the entire planet. It even changes his voice. He didnt use its full power against buu becuz he was on limited time . Ps the theme is lit.

What's funny is Goku even said himself that he probably could have killed Majin Buu right then and there, he just knew that with Gohan and Vegeta gone, that the Earth would be left in constant danger without anybody being strong enough to protect it. "Pointing this out because it is very easy to miss later on."

@@ch1pZz271 Well, Kid Buu was actually just far stronger then normal Majin Buu, which you could see from them both fighting each other, just like how Evil Buu beat and absorbed normal Buu.

I always saw it as they’re even, but evil Buu was putting his all while normal Buu is still just naive and wasn’t rage filled. And of course the win went to using the candy beam which is magic and normal Buu wouldn’t be able to overpower it even if he was smart enough to try.
@@thedestroyersinofpride7101 Kid Bud is commonly referred to as the strongest version but I’m pretty sure the translation really only says the most dangerous, because of his mindset not being tainted by the fat Supreme Kai he absorbed. The strongest version of Buu is Buuhan, when he absorbed Gohan in his Mystic form.

After Super buu loses all his absorptions and he is reverted to back to his normal form. As buu is gradually going through the changes of transforming from super buu into ultra buu and then into kid buu, Supreme Kai and Goku state that Buus ki is rising and getting bigger so he's getting stronger. The order of strength goes like this. Majin Buu Gohan Absorbed (This 1 is smartest, but his evil is still somewhat restrained since he has Gotenks, Piccolo and Gohan in him, as well as Mr. Buu)> Kid Buu (This one is completely unrestrained and doesn't have an ounce of good in him.) > Majin Buu Gotenks Absorbed > Ultra Buu > Majin Buu Piccolo Absorbed > Super Buu > Majin Buu Supreme Kai Absorbed (Before Evil Buu comes out of him) > Evil Buu > Mr. Buu (Buu without any evil in him. This is the buu that fights Kid Buu when they are on Supreme Kais planet and battling for the Fate of the universe.) But non of these buus would even pose close to a challenge to Vegito he's OP.
I love SSJ3! It's such a sick transformation. I feel people dislike it purely because of the lack of eyebrows. But I think that adds to the intimidation factor. Like that constant death stare is so badass. More hair = more power in Dragon Ball. And I am ALL for it! It's times like this where I wish SSJ4 was canon. That is undoubtedly my favorite form. GT did that right at least. But as for DBZ, this is another banger from the Buu Saga. The visual imagery that they used for this transformation was amazing.
Bruce Faulconer ost in the back makes this transformation the most epic in dbz!

I don't know if your aware but there is a reason Saiyan's become more aggressive when they go super. The transformation itself awakens a more primal part of them, the part that loves combat and makes them crueler. With enough training they can overcome this, pure blooded Saiyan's have a harder time doing this than say half Saiyan's. However if you take notice of every time a new Super Saiyan level is reached "like with Goku first becoming a Super Saiyan, or Gohan in his fight with Cell" they are all deathly calm. That is them struggling with not just their new power, but also their change in mindset.
This is also why Goku can't create the spirit bomb while in a Super Saiyan form, one needs to be pure of heart to do it.
Dude I always wondered why goku was always in base form when using the spirit bomb but I thought he was just gassed vs kid buu that’s why they used the dragon balls to give him more energy. Thanks for the info!
I still think it's a little weird that he cant use the spirit bomb in super saiyan God tho

When I first saw this on live TV when I was young, I yelled even more than Goku did. Whole neighborhood knew what was going on. Legendary times, childhood was awesome because of DBZ
This moment never gets old. It's so iconic and legendary amongst all anime even moreso for sean schemmel with i believe this was one or the only times he lost his voice, voicing a character
The assumption is he learned it off screen at some point in the 7 years skip and was holding back against his fight with Vegeta. It has too much energy output which is probably why he didn’t want to use it but had to stall for time even though he didn’t have much time himself on earth left
Yeah it is implied that he was training with King Kai because King Kai was the only knowing what he was going to do.
You later find out that everybody in Otherworld, not just King Kai, knew about the SSJ3 transformation. Won't say how just in case Aimin is reading.

Basically in the other world he kept training. You see a glimpse of ssj3 when he fights pykon in the big tournent.
As it's a new form Goku hasn't mastered it at that point. It consumes too much energy and puts great strain on the body. It gains speed.
Goku didn't use it on Vegeta because he knows he can't use it for long and the energy drains too high.
Think of the transformations as double edged sword. They gain power and speed. But until mastered they have time limits and cause damage to the user.
Remember when Goku first learned kao ken? He was warned not to go past x6. He was forced to use x20 on Vegeta and then he torn apart his own muscles and couldn't move.
Ngl thats kinda stupid of him he shouldve used ssj3 in a burst of power and knocked majin vegeta out before buu could be revived

Fuck man. Almost 20 years later and this scene is still giving me goosebumps and getting me all excited. I was 10 when this aired in America. I can still remember the way I jumped up and down with excitement when I saw this the first time.

Super Saiyan 3 is indeed rare in the series. Not counting GT, its only used 4 times across the entire series. Twice in DBZ, both times against Buu and Twice in DBS, Once against beerus and the other in the Tournament of Power so it is indeed quite the spectacle

I also think he showed the form to gohan at the kai planet. I could be wrong, it was such long ago but I could’ve sworn this happen, had the VHS Japanese version back in the day, early 90s
3 times in DBZ. Once here, Second with Super Buu and Third on Kid buu. But yes it's quite rare and one reason being it's massive consumption of Ki. It's more of a hinderance than a reliable powerup given it's drawbacks.
Yup. The long hair and brick eyebrows are the hallmarks of the Super Saiyan 3 transformation. As for what Raditz looks like as a Super Saiyan 3, he has his normal hair length. Amusingly enough though, Nappa as a Super Saiyan 3 stays bald but has his beard grow instead.
How do I know this? The Super Dragon Ball Heroes game. Sometimes “non-canon” Dragon Ball content is just too beautiful to ignore, y’know? 😂

@@ishowspeedsui Not really, no. His hair is super long since it naturally stops around his knees, but it doesn’t get longer as a Super Saiyan 3. It only fluffs up and changes color like everyone else’s does.

Best transformation in all of dragonball, dragonball z, dragon ball super and gt by far to me. Aimin this is actually my favorite moment of all of dragonball z, actually not just my favorite transformation. The look, the lighting, the power it emits, the feel of it, the choreography and the music all make this transformation beautiful.

Best transformation of the series. And yeah, the song really adds to it. In the original subbed and in the re-dub, there's no music at all. The screams from powering up are due to the strain on the body (think of how when weight lifters cry out when lifting). In some cultures, hair is believed to symbolize one's power.
The score is amazing and one of the best moments in dbz hands down. My favorite moment for sure. It gives me goosebumps.
You totally must watch Fusion Reborn movie from this Saga, epic is the only word to describe it..
Goku had to reach deep down to the root of his saiyan essence to bring this power out, which is why there was a glimpse of him as both a child and a great ape behind his eyes at the brink of his ascension.

But Ssj3 is my all time favorite form. I see it as the fullest power of Super Saiyan. I don't care about the draw backs. The intimidation that it radiates is what allures me to it.
Goku was only given so much time on earth. The more power he uses the sooner the has to leave earth.

The reason Super Saiyan 3 is so rare to you is that only 2 people have achieved it (I won't spoil the 2nd person), and whilst it's a HUGE boost in speed and power, it also drains your energy like nothing else, so it can only be used for short periods of time before you need to take a break back in base form to rest a while. Eventually Super Saiyan 3 gets outclassed by a further transformation that doesn't have the energy draining drawback and provides even more strength and speed, and so it isn't really used after that, and if characters need to go a "step down" in transformations to save power, they will usually just go to Super Saiyan 1 or 2 instead of 3, and then when going back up they skip over 3 again.
Goku learned how to do it while in the afterlife for 7 years, where he was training with other strong warriors who kept their bodies too, they did do a filler arc about this during the start of the Buu arc when Gohan was doing school stuff, but it doesn't actually show when Goku learned SS3, it just shows him in an afterlife tournament with dead heroes from around the universe

False technically. SSJ3 is draining massive energy , if Goku cannot defeat Vegeta before the transformation run out, it's a win for Vegeta. Not talking about the time the dude need to transform, too.
