  • In this video I'm going over some of the ride characteristics of the R500 in terms of riding in the flats, on the climb, ride feel, etc...
    I didn't get to explain much about how titanium bikes ride in general compare to steel or aluminum, but that is to be said in a different video.

      Thank you for your insights. However, I'm Still on the fence...I currently ride the 2006 Litespeed Siena, which climbs beautifuly and 2008 Litespeed Ultimate which I use for flatter pancake like terrain. I am now considering another Litespeed Ts1 (rim brake) or the Lynskey R500, both beautiful framesets, if money were not an issue I'd get both - or I could sell the Siena and Ultimate and do just that. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. 🤔👌

    Greetings from down here in Laguna Beach! I ride a Moots Vamoots Disc Road and love it! I ride with a group and was worried how this bike will do with all the lighter carbon bikes but I hang right in there with no problem at all. Does excellent on the climbs as well. I bought the bike last year and don’t have any regrets at all. Cheers!

    Great video! I have a 2021 Lynskey Helix SRAM Force eTap and love it too! It is stiff, smooth, responsive but not nervous in the handling department, and gorgeous looking in the raw titanium finish. I only wish it were a little lighter and that the rear brake housing coming off of the lever, went into the front of the head tube, instead of on the left side of the downtube. I find my leg hits that cable housing quite a lot, even after having the LBS trim the housing length down. Overall, it's craftsmanship is top notch and it is quite an efficient bike.

    Video review was very well done. I think that Ti bikes in general are by far the best looking frames, especially the brushed finish. And the R500 is probably the most beautiful Ti frame I have ever seen. I own an R340 which is also very beautiful but definitely more classic looking than the R500. The R340 uses all 3al/2.5v tubing but the seat stays are helical, the seat post is 31.7mm diameter and both the top and down tubes are oversized and diamond shaped, giving the frame more than enough stiffness for even the most powerful sprinters, (which I am definitely not). The only thing I would change on the R500 is the integrated headset. I think the external Chris King headset cups give the opportunity to add some anodized color to the bike without looking over the top. With the internal headset, there is no way to customize the front end of the bike. Plus I am yet to ever wear out a Chris King headset.

    • @organicbikepacking7312
      @organicbikepacking7312  Před rokem

      Thank you. I do agree with the external headset opinion as I still enjoy the retro look that the bikes offer.

      Not sure if you pulled the trigger on a Pro GR... I recently bought one, currently amazing price of $1600- I was a little concerned that going back to Ti. from carbon, i would loose some lateral stiffness in the BB....well, no felt difference and bike feels amazing and fast. I am 6'3" 240lb and make pretty good power. hope this helps. I love the bike! So much so, I now may buy an R500 to replace my Tarmac...

    Thanks for the review, but I would have any new bike set up with the same basic touch point measurements as my current bike, and certainly have the same brand, width,, and style (i.e. cut-out or not), saddle, plus same width (and only marginally lower at first) handlebars as my current bike, before taking on a 90 mile ride, resulting in saddle sores.

      @@organicbikepacking7312 I've never been one to pin down frame stiffness exactly but it seems stiffer than the GR Race. The GR Race has a Lauf fork so that may make it feel looser. I have eight bikes and I take the Helix Pro on the longest rides.

  • @hensemzp1
    @hensemzp1 Před 2 měsíci

    Hello! Do you know which manufacturer builds a frame with more stack and less reach? I really enjoy endurance riding and climbing and am looking for a frame with the right geometry. As a rule, on all the frames that I found,the reach is long and the stack is low and I will have to install a lot of spacers under the stem and use very short stem.I'm not flexible and long rides cause a lot of pain in my upper body. I've done bike fit many times, but it still doesn't help.

    • @organicbikepacking7312
      @organicbikepacking7312  Před rokem +1

      Hi the frame is in "Industrial Mill" finish and the seat post is in Brush, and I haven't done anything to them. Brush is inline (smooth) finish and the Mill is random pattern. Both are very similar and awesome if you like matte finish than glossy. The darkest one would be "Satin" finish which I don't see anymore.
      I'm going to talk detail about all of the pros, cons on each finish and post the video soon.

    Nice review. I love titanium and have a gravel ultimate Litespeed but Lynskey frames are very heavy. I don't think the frames are butted or shaped in any way. For example, this frame is almost 400g heavier than the Litespeed Ultimate. I don't care about weight much but that is a significant difference. Lynskey used to be less expensive than Litespeed but this R500 with Force mechanical is almost $6k now.

    Great video and review. I've owned the Lynskey Helix with carbon wheels and Di2 for two years. I really wanted to like it more. It really looks great, but it's heavy. Just no way around that. And it's not that lively compared to the carbon bikes I've tried. No doubt it'll last forever, it just doesn't bring me a lot of joy....

    • @organicbikepacking7312
      @organicbikepacking7312  Před rokem

      Hi, thanks for filling us in on that.
      I agree with the weight of Lynskey frames in general; they are on the heavier side compared to some.
      Besides stiffness/liveliness, how is the comfort compared to carbon frames in your opinion?
      If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Helix frames are built to be more stable/endurance/longer rides which results in losing a lot of the stiffness/responsiveness??

    • @hobbs2005
      @hobbs2005 Před rokem

      @@organicbikepacking7312 you've described it exactly as I would. The Helix is certainly sturdy and steady. When I'm on the flats and have my momentum going, I feel pretty good. The geometry is also quite comfortable for longer rides. The Helix also holds up better than carbon when there's a cross wind (as it should because of the weight). It just doesn't have the life and joy I'm accustomed to with carbon. Like, this weekend I did a 100 mile 10k climbing ride in Malibu. The ascents (b/c of the weigh) and descents would have been more enjoyable on carbon. Just more zip with less effort. I do like the brushed Ti look though and I got the titanium head badge, which looks cool too. If I was rich, I'd buy a Sworks Aethos for my long rides and ride the Helix around town! Haha!
