  • Thanks to BR Racing for assisting in car setup.
    My fastest lap of the day from an afternoon session, followed by a little surprise T2 drift.
    This was my first time running at Laguna Seca post-repave. It rained the day before and overnight, leading to gradually drying conditions in the morning. The course never felt fully clean, though, so I was hesitant to fully commit to use of the exit curbs in a few places. In many of those same places (T2, T3, T5, T11), traction control was a major limiting factor, and on this lap in particular, I misjudged the entry to the corkscrew and lost several tenths from there to the exit of T9. In retrospect I wish I had taken steps into the uncomfortable earlier in the day.
    Based on the feel of the car last weekend at autocross and this weekend at Laguna Seca, I may try softening the rear a bit to assist with on-throttle stability. Clearly I've also got to stick to running on track with TC disabled, though this didn't feel like the right day to jump right in. I should also note that I don't know how much of this was condition specific.
    As ever, I'm looking forward to giving this another go soon.
    Thanks also to SP Motorsports for hosting this run group.
    Only modification: Yokohama Advan A052 in OEM sizes.

      Slow hands on turn in, working with what the car has to give; quick hands when balancing at the limit of group. When done right, I'm not fighting the car and it should look relatively easy.

      @@teddyframheinagree, and I know from my own laps, the videos don’t represent all that’s going on when you can’t feel the cars wiggles and G forces.
      I think I have similar apex speeds (except T6, I’m just slow at T6) but I’m braking too soon and getting back to throttle too late.

    • @teddyframhein
      @teddyframhein  Před měsícem

      I don’t know much about the AD09’s but I can tell you the A052’s have been the choice at 200 treadwear for autocross for the last few years. Bridgestone’s new RE-71RS is also right there.
      These tires are great from cold and much grippier than their treadwear rating would suggest, but do fall off at higher temperatures. So far I’ve done two or three push laps at a time and they seem fine.

    Alignment specs?

    • @teddyframhein
      @teddyframhein  Před 5 hodinami

      I had BR Racing help set a baseline. Without going into too much detail: slight drop overall, slightly more rake, as much negative camber in front as possible which is potentially limited by rear camber/toe. I started with the front bar at full soft and the rear at full stiff and have since softened the rear for additional traction (note the oversteer at the exit of T5 on this lap - not ideal).

    • @vantagesc
      @vantagesc Před 5 hodinami

      @@teddyframhein Thanks! I am running a 981 GT4 but was just curious as to what the stock 4RS is capable of before getting into things like camber plates, wider tires, etc. I'm running -2.5 f / -2.0 r camber as a 50/50 street and track setup and front castor bushings to correct that issue. At my skill level, that is sufficient for now.

    • @teddyframhein
      @teddyframhein  Před 5 hodinami

      My goal is also the leave the car stock, it's pretty fantastic as-is. We managed -3 f / -2.4 r.

    • @vantagesc
      @vantagesc Před 5 hodinami +1

      @@teddyframhein That's great. I think many "alignment shops" are not understanding how to adjust the castor using the existing 4RS bushing (which I had to install aftermarket into my std GT4). Anyway, cheers, your video is very informative for a novice driver trying to get better.

      I mean, having tried and failed to fund a push into higher-level racing series, I get it. If the goal is to go racing, sim and karting are better options.
      Compared to other road cars though, this thing feels like decent value - everything Porsche can throw at the chassis, plus a true connection to motorsport in the powertrain. It's a genuine step on from my Spec Boxster in terms of pace, and it's road-legal and comfortable enough to relax in (relatively speaking) on the way to and from the track.
