i have a 16600 and have worn it every day for 22 years - every day it feels like i'm wearing it for the first time.... i still hold it and admire the style and craftsmanship - never had it serviced - don't think i will - a little fast (7 secs a day).. a thing of beauty

I’m fortunate to own both the 16600 & 116600. These are more appealing than the submariner because of the esthetic and no cyclops. I believe the “oddball” 116600 is the most desirable SD due to its 40mm case, great movement and cerachrom bezel. You glossed over 116600 but it’s already an iconic timepiece

I just bought a mint one, for way more money than I could have bought a SD43 50th anniversary 😅, but I couldn't care less since it's among the best modern Rolex ever made and IMO it will be very expensive someday... 😊

@@vincentschneuwly9783 couldn’t agree more! Mine is mint too as I wear the 16600 and Explorer 39mm full lume. Another Rolex that had a short run and I believe the ideal size. The 36 is too small and the 40…might as well get an Oyster Perpetual. I really think Tudor is making some great timepieces as well

I am fortunate to have been able to buy up from a no date Sub to a Rolex Sea Dweller 116600 ceramic in 40mm before prices went crazy and I have to say it is damn near a perfect tool dive watch. I think the newer SD in 43 with cyclops gets away from the tool aspect of the watch and moves it more toward a fashion statement.

    • @garrisong
      @garrisong Před rokem +1

I agree with you 100% the 116600 is the perfect tool watch if I could only keep one watch that would be that one. I’ve recently bought a 116660 deep sea and I really like it as well. Surprisingly you can find those fairly reasonably all things considered. I am definitely not a fan of the 43mil sea dweller though to me it looks off and too much like a submariner.

The SD always holds a special place in my heart. I once had a 16600, loved how it looks thicker than the sub. My 2nd SD was the 116600 (sold a guitar and a no date ceramic sub for it) because i was madly in love with the unique lugs, and its majestic bezel look. Kinda lookin forward to having another SD ... .... (devil stay away)

I bought the 16600 several years ago. I was not really familiar with it but had been looking at Submariners for years. Whe I decided to buy, Subs were trending and jumping in price, and I despised the attitude that was growing in online communities. When I finally looked twice at a Sea Dweller, I loved it, and just happened to do a quick search and found one w/B&P for a steal and jumped on it. I love the presence on the wrist, more substantial than a Submariner. And who wouldn't want a 4,000 ft. rating?

I really enjoyed your SD review. Loved it, actually! I have a Datejust 41 with blue face and diamond markers, but with a wrist size 9.25" (23.5cm), I feel it's a little small for my wrist. I recently purchased the 2017 SD43 MK1 and I LOVE IT! I had to get a couple of extra links of course, but it looks perfect on my wrist!
You are correct. It's a better watch than the sub. Better specs, better depth capability, and IMO, better size dimensions for the modern male wrist.

Former NASA-astronaut, turned aquanaut US Navy Captain Scott Carpenter used Rolex Sea Dweller in the underwater SeaLab habitat. Carpenter liked his watches as already in 1962 had Breitling bringing out a Navitimer with bigger bezel and 24 hours dial. After leaving NASA Carpenter mostly wore Rolex Submariner & SeaDweller versions, with the odd exception his 1969 Gold "Apollo 11 tribute" BA 145.022-69 Speedmaster chronograph.

I wanted it serviced, plus and a new face and hand to restore the luminosity on the hands and watch face. £1200, in order for Rolex to do the service it I have to replace the sapphire Crystal (the Crystal had a tiny chip only visible with a jewellers loop), as well as the bracelet, and the Bezel (because it had a mynute crack on the luminous dot) the bracelet was stretched slightly that’s another £1100 pounds. Grand total £2500 ish. It’s like leave your car in for a service to the main dealer then having to get the car completely restored to show room condition before they will agree to service the car.

The 126600 …..50 Anniversary depending on someone’s wrist size is something beefier that a Submariner the Red text harbinger’s back to both Sea Dweller’s and Sub lovers. Might even be a Sub killer, In my opinion there’s no comparison the SD’s rule. Certainly a more rare produced watch and the Sea Dweller’s where always a slight premium in retail price.

With the dweller you have a story to tell. Everybody is fixed on the sub but how nice is it to tell more specs and the peculiairity of the dweller who almost look the same but not.... This is a really toolwatch instead of the sub as a commercial watch. The 16600 is the best in the pricerange in this time (around euro 10-12k). The new price of the 16600 in his time was higher then the sub 16610.

I enjoyed the video and I own a 16600. While I love the 16600, I want to replace it with a 116600 Sea dweller for 3 reasons that I believe makes it a better watch. First, the bracelet is a major improvement, secondly, from an aesthetics point of view, I like the look of the dial with the larger more luminated hour markers and thirdly, the movement has been improved. The only reason I don't pull the trigger is that I feel the 116600 is overpriced. The 16600 provides more value as you stated.

116600 is the king for me.
116600 > 16600. Not just for the fully graduated ceramic bezel, but because of the bracelet. The solid end and center links, glide lock, machined clasp, and diver extension make a world of difference for a tool watch. The only reason I'd go for the 16600 is if it were a Comex version.
116600 > 126600 for the lack of a cyclops lens, 40mm instead of 43mm, and 3135 movement instead of the 3235 movement. That last one will probably need a bit of explanation, but it has to do with how you set the watch. When I roll the crown up, I want the hands to move forward, not back. The only thing the 126600 has on the 116600 is the red line of text, but I can easily live without it.
Imho, the 14060M Submariner is a better balanced watch though, and far more suitable for everyday wear. Plus the 14060M has that vintage chic, especially with the two-line dial, while still being technically a modern watch.
