    Poor Viserys still can't catch a break. Paddy Considine deserved an Emmy nom for this role, and I raise my cup to him.
    Disclaimer: I don't own anything (this video isn't monetized), just mashed some clips together for fun.

    I really appreciate how in HotD, Viserys biggest strength is indicative of his biggest weakness. He's remembered for preventing war from breaking out but only so far as he was alive, he didn't want to deal with the animosity that was growing between his two families and didn't take any preventative actions that would prevent a war despite the fact that the warning signs were plain to see to everyone except him. He could've had Aegon or Aemond sent to Dragonstone to be fostered under Rhaenyra or placed Rhaenyra as his Hand but the most likely reason he didn't make any effort was because he didn't want to acknowledge there was ever any issue and having Rhaenyra and her sons in court would cause more arguments that he didn't want to hear. He doesn't try and limit the role the Hightowers have because Otto is much more suited to deal with the tedium of court than he is despite knowing that they're more than likely going to attempt to disinherit his daughter and ignore his will once he's dead.

    To everyone blaming him for the dance. If he wasn’t there to hold everyone’s hand shit went to hell quick. Guy can’t be everywhere at once and everyone was out to fuck him over. Only time things were alright was if viserys was literally right next to them spoon feeding them common sense. It’s just a shame the littlefinger teleportation device hadn’t been invented yet things would have been a lot different if he could just appear anywhere at anytime 😥

      @@SaiSivakumar true but she was the best choice at the time and for the longest time. Sucked for viserys he tried to make the best of an impossible situation. If he doesn’t name an heir he’s viewed weak, he names rhanearys he’s viewed weak, names daemon he’s viewed weak. Finally he backtracks on his rhanearys decisions to name Aegon he’s viewed weak. Unfortunately a good man can never thrive in Westeros

      @yxxng1z943 Před 2 měsíci +6

      he did nothing to protect rhaenyra’s claim, letting alicent and otto get away with a bunch of shit that other monarchs would’ve punished. he put too much trust over people that showed his true colors literally right in front of him and he still did nothing. the dance is his fault for being spineless, for not setting clear limits and not protecting his heir and her claim.

    • @PinkHitMe
      @PinkHitMe Před 2 měsíci +4

      @@yxxng1z943 I won’t disagree he really should have done more, dude couldn’t tell the difference between ass kissing and acceptance. They kissed his ass by constantly saying rhaenyrys is heir but always had ulterior motives, never really accepted it and he couldn’t see that. Still I’d put more fault on the backstabbers and liars then the good man who constantly made his will known.

    this is what happens when a king does not choose a side. each side grows stronger until both are fighting each other when the strength of the crown is weak enough. I would have chosen my blood over my friends. purged the hightowers from the kings court and elevated another family from the reach because jesus christ fuck the hightowers.

    • @LucasBozovich
      @LucasBozovich Před měsícem

      That is until Gerald Hightower (The White Bull) joins the kingsguard (Aerys II was the worst Targaryen king, but probably had the best kingsguard in Westerosi history)

    • @georgemartinez932
      @georgemartinez932 Před měsícem +6

      No. He unquestionably picked a side. Literally hours before his death he publicly reaffirmed his position, and a man got his head cut in half for daring to give voice to the opposing side. Nobody in that court had any confusion about what side Viserys was on.
      The problem is that picking a side was the *only* thing he did. He incorrectly assumed that because he was king, people would honor his wishes.
      He thought his word was enough so he didn't do anything to set his side up for success, nor did he hold them accountable.
      Viserys gets a lot of unfair criticism, but he definitely fumbled the ball when he took Otto back as hand instead of making Rhaenrya step up and assume that responsibility.
