  • Here's my first roadtrip with Volvo's brand new C40 Recharge Twin. Borrowed this MY22 Fjord Blue C40 from my dealer Frydenbø Bilsenter.
    Took it for a long range test. Started in Bergen with 100% and aimed for Gol just over 300km away. Had to drive over the mountain pass of Hemsedal towards Gol.
    Hope you will enjoy this video. Please press the 👍 if you do. Much appreciated.

    Nice video about the C40 and amazing and varied scenery as well. I'm glad you highlighted the route planning/range/BMS problem. Confidence and trust in the accuracy of that system is extremely important to being able to fully utilize and enjoy driving an EV, especially in the U.S. where the non-Tesla charging infrastructure is still spotty and distances can be great. Volvo must get this right.

    amazing design (wifey loves it) and super smart infotainment (google powered), but I think it's more of a home-work commuting and a city car, rather than a long distance car. this test kind of proves it. We almost went for it but in the end decided to still go M3P.

    Hi Kristian, I just return from the Volvo showroom. Actually the ground clearance of C40 and XC40 is not the same. I mesured it. There is abt 3-4cm hight difference between bottom and ground. And when seats set totally in down position, my head nearly touches the door frame top as I stepped in (i am 1.80mtr high) and in the XC iIhave 5cm left over. So it is lower, that is for sure now. But you are right, ithe car is better looking, looks more sportive and younger. And more over, it is immediately available (my luck) so I'll go for the C40 I guess. Just a try from Thursday to Friday and I decide before the weekend.
    Once more, your review really helped me out, it helped me to decide. Both 40's battery did not seem the best but you must know what you want in life. I do 20-100km/day, like a lot of people. Stop reaching out for the maximum autonomy. Get the best drive and the ride that gives you most pleasure in a safe way.
    Nice to be in touch and thank you!
    Do you also do reviews on other cars?

    • @volvo_kristian
      @volvo_kristian  Před 2 lety

      Hello. It should actually be exactly the same ground clearance. Like around 17,6cm. It's higher on the non electric XC40. Like 21cm 👍 Interesting that you measured differently. The roofline are lower indeed. Like 5cm. So tall people will notice that. I'm glad that my video helped you decide. What spec did you go for? I test other cars, but not in the same way as with Volvo's and Polestar's.

      @@volvo_kristian Hi again. After your last mail I checked the specs on the Volvo site. It is very strange, I must have been comparing the XC next to the C, in combustion version... because the difference was there. But I just double checked on volvo site specs and you are right, it should be the same within both electric versions!! Good point Kristian and this really took away my last hesitations. I took the XC40 off road during a heavy rain... (It was dark and I lost my way...) and I drove through woods as well. Without any problem (I kept a reasonable high speed of course) and I was very much surprised a car with this weight, not that high (like a Q7 on off road) did not get into trouble. So I was impressed and thought to buy similar. Well now, the C40 will be identical. Thank you Kristian. I'll send you a picture when I have the car. Cheers and many regards.

    I live in Stockholm and our C40 will arrive late this year, do you recommend getting spike tires instead of using Recharge tires all year? I think Bergen has about the same amount of snowy weather like we do here...

    Nice review Kristian. I enjoyed watching it and indeed, the scenery is superb. And coïncidence, I am ordering the same vehicle this week, same colours and all in Twin. This was also a twin? I still hesitate a little bit between the XC40 though. What do you think?

    • @volvo_kristian
      @volvo_kristian  Před 2 lety +1

      Glad you liked it. Yeah this was also a Twin. Understand your hesitations. I would say that if you don't need the additional luggage space and/or the better rear seat space I would go for C40. Has a tougher exterior, and I really enjoy the new rear lights.

      @willyheldenbergh413 Před 2 lety +1

      @@volvo_kristian Thanks Kristian. Well, this is a second car, if i need to take people i use a larger car. But I like SUV a lot and the XC40 gave me the impression a lot it was real SUV. I didn't sit in a C40 yet, do you have the same feeling? I rejected a mustang Mach e initially as it did not give me a SUV feeling at all. And i find the XC40 (which i tested for 2 days) pretty comfortable, it is not that far from the feeling of pneumatic suspension (i compared various other EV's and they all were disappointing regarding suspension). So bottomline, do you feel it is as comfortable as a XC40 + do you have the SUV feeling too? Thanks!

    • @volvo_kristian
      @volvo_kristian  Před 2 lety

      @Willy Heldenbergh The C40 delivers the same SUV feeling. Also the same ground clearance. Think the C40 are quite comfortable to drive. The Mustang are cool but the dealbreaker for me there are the lack of opportunity to mount a roofbox on it.

    It is interesting experience! But I didn’t understand: Does Volvo have battery heater?
    Mileage in mountain area 4,2 km/kwt-that’s very good! How many degrees outside?

    • @volvo_kristian
      @volvo_kristian  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah. The C40 has a heatpump. To heat up the battery before rapidcharger.
      What do you mean milage in mountain area?
      Temperature around 3'C and down to -3'C

      @volvo_kristian  Před 2 lety

      @Filip Didn't check consumption specific for the mountains area. Measured the whole distance. It's pretty high consumption on the way up the mountain, but then it goes down again. So it balance out 😎

  • @bareknuckle52
    @bareknuckle52 Před 2 lety +1

    I think if you’re expecting to arrive with a low state of charge setting a fast charger as your destination may be working against you as the car consumes its own energy to preheat. If you had just driven to Gol and then charged maybe the 10% would have been right

    • @volvo_kristian
      @volvo_kristian  Před 2 lety

      Yeah. Of course. Have actually never checked how much battery it uses on pre heating, but that totally makes sense.

    At 14:30 you showed the music equalizer, and I noticed you had the surround sound turned off. In my opinion, the stereo doesn't sound good until you turn on the surround sound which makes it really rich, and makes the sound tailered around either the driver or another part of the cabin. Did you drive the entire time with the surround sound turned off? Go look at your video and you will see you had the good sound feature turned off.

    • @volvo_kristian
      @volvo_kristian  Před 2 lety

    Nice car. Im a volvo dude but the efficiency of this is crap compared to, say ioniq5, which is way "boxier". Drag coefficient is so bad. Will have to choose polestar or ioniq5 when driving to møre 10 hours. Too bad Volvo.
