I’m a mechanic and all these types of videos make me thankful for the protective equipment and tools I use so I’m not getting solvents on my skin or in my mouth and eyes and work safe with very minimal injuries…but injuries do happen so I can’t imaging what this guy deals with
Try a million. I’ve worked in conditions like this to repair things. He is keeping the parts clean, and making sure that nothing is in the engine for reassembly. You guys are so into whatever OSHA says, that you totally discount what is really happening here. At least I was on a concrete floor with oil dry all over the place to absorb all the solvents and cleaners.

In 1936 my Dad was given the job of rebuilding the engine on his Dad’s Model T. As he told me the story he admitted that it toke him 3 tries, the first two times he was coming up with spare nuts and bolts. He was 10 years old at the time. My Dad was a mechanical genius. I take my hat off to anyone who gets in done with hard work.

You know, when I wake up in the morning belly aching about my job I don't want to go to these videos help me realize it ain't as bad as it could be. Don't get me wrong, my job still sucks ass but the half of my money taxes doesn't get I can buy tools to be more efficient and produce more. I mean, that doesn't do me any good either because at that level the government gets all that I make.
This is why I tip my mechanic a little extra every time. I have lived in countries where mechanics do everything at the touch of a button, use monitors, pull levers and use hand held power tools, yet charge me a fortune but my guy back home uses manual tools (where any) with raw manpower to crank/lift heavy stuff, gets the kob done and still charges me pennies in forex.
I went to a third world country to train mechanics. It was always frustrating to provide a clean environment to build motors and other heavy equipment components, and they would still prefer doing it out in the dirt. That took a lot of time to teach.
When the power grid gets terrorized and shut down, us Americans will be standing looking dumbfounded at a dead machine that did the hard work. Those folks will still be getting things done, even if in a rudimentary way.
Amazingly how people can do work , get things done without OSHA around. No machine shop pulling cylinder sleeve out, no steam cleaning engine block, zero safety glasses and turning a water bottle into a pressurized gasoline Aerosol spray without worrying about sparks in the area while spraying it on the engine coil. Probably using the same tool for tooth extraction later in the day.
