  • Kyle is in Belgium driving the Volvo C40 Recharge with the 402hp Twin Engine powertrain. This car will be arriving to the US in Q1 2022 but Volvo was kind enough to invite us out to drive the car ahead of the US launch. Built on the CMA platform, this car is similar to Polestar 2 and XC40 Recharge but with different styling and a new character. In this video, Kyle takes you on a full tour of the electric C40, Volvo's first only electric model line, and then for a drive around Belgium.

    I absolutely love Fjord Blue! Plus the blue carpeting adds so much spice to the inside. The one pedal driving calibration was really a key takeaway at low speed, this thing is very well calibrated! What do you guys think? This or XC40 recharge? For me, I’d still go for the boxy one I think.

      I’m on the fence but leaning toward C40 because of that beautiful color, I like the rims and I’m hoping the aerodynamics play out with better range and performance. Volvo says 0-60 is 4.7 for XC and 4.5 for this, but car and driver got the XC to 4.3 seconds, so will the C40 go 4.1 and match the Polestar?

The interior is EXACTLY the same as the XC40 (different inserts is the only thing I can tell from the video). Same infotainment, same menu's, same exact drivertrain.

It's all so much better when we can hear you ever more clearly. Excellent review. Car looks great but personally I too want the bigger back.
    I own a 2010 xc60 and love it. I'm thinking about buying the xc90 either hybrid or 100% electric.
    I love the roof glass but one day will live in Arizona where the temps are well over 100f in the summer so no glass shade would be a hard pass for me unless I could dark tint the glass. Adjustable roof glass tint would be ideal buy I'm sure expensive.
    The range isn't enough for me. I need at least 350 miles to make it 250 miles to my relatives house without stopping to charge on very cold days when the range is greatly reduced. I'm hoping the xc90 will have 350 plus range.
    Thanks again for the helpful review! Cheers! 😀

    Regen even works at 100% SOC without blending in friction breaking with some cars. It depends on the cell chemistry and amount of top battery buffer. And it's obviously difficult to find twisty roads in Belgium, since it's a completely flat country, even void of gentle hills. So why would they make roads twisty when they can make them straight?

    I think showing both of these two is most helpful to the driver, EV veteran or noob. The EPA range number should just be a reference point to be compared to, just like the Energy Screen of a Tesla.
    I dislike how Tesla defaults to the EPA range and glad that manufacturers are doing it differently.

It is super smooth, quick and quieter with all the bells and whistles so as I test drive as many cars as I can,when they point out the heated steering wheel and seats I’m like yeah I’ve got that. But I just drove the Volvo XC40 and much to your point, it feels even more solid and more stable when surrounded by heavy traffic on the highway. You get a feeling of security while driving. It’s speaks quality while still understated. I like the exterior pastel paints and interior quality. I know my wife will like it and much like Judge Judy says, mines the only opinion that counts. I’m going to keep test driving because the that’s the fun part of car buying. I have the CRV Hybrid and want to get something on that size. I’m looking forward to driving the Prologue, on the Ultium battery, and hope you review that one. But right now I’d say the Volvo has put itself on the strong possibility short list. @@benjaminsmith2287 Would be curious how the visibility compares to the ID/4 which I found not great. They need to do the GM Bolt thing, use the backup camera in the rear view mirrors then who cars about back visibility.

    Love the styling of the C40 and its interior, but not a fan of the 9" infotainment screen. And there's no mention of the availability of wireless Apple CarPlay or Sirius XM radio. What am I missing?

      @benjaminsmith2287 Před 2 lety

      That's the problem with Volvo now. They designed the Polestar 2 with an updated dash (the Polestar 2 is a Volvo design used by Polestar) but all of the Volvo-branded cars have the same 9" screen. Their interiors are showing their age, IMO.

    I'm starting to get a little uneasy about charging specs, rates and times. Here's a big question. Comparing the IONIQ 5 to the C40, sure the onboard charger looks fantastic on paper, but how can we see a real world 20%-80% charge and how many MILES that equates to? The IONIQ really doesn't have fantastic range... so if you get a vehicle with a bit more range then 20%-80% like the Volvo, maybe it takes longer, but do you get more miles? I'm not sure if I've made that question clear, but hopefully someone can answer it. :)
