    Honestly 200 miles highway range is pretty decent. Especially for the performance this offers, and the relative lower cost compared to Model Y. This would handle 95% of what we’d ask of it (besides towing and long road trips), and for the other 5% could just use our ICE vehicle.

    You should watch Bjørns 1000 km challenge video on the C40. It did quite well actually. 10h 35 min. Faster than ID4 rear wheel drive, Mach E long range, Mercedes EQC and only 5 min slower than Ioniq5 that was tested in warmer weather same route.

      The Ioniq 5 is much bigger, so camparing to the C40 is silly. It was also tested before Bjorn figured out that you need to turn off HVAC to cool the battery.
      EV6 is also bigger than C40, and did 1000km in 9h55m. Model Y 9h45m. C40 is slower than EQA, Enyaq, and more.
      So no, 10h35m is not "quite well" compared to newer EVs.

    364 Wh/mi = 226Wh/km for the Europeans watching, and it sounds much better in metric!
    Great test - you & Bjørn are my go-to EV channels.
    Looks like a comfy & practical, quality car for daily driving with home charging. Really nice animal-free upholstery & good Harmon Kardon hi-fi. Great headlights. And it looks really nice.
    For long trips you'd need some route planning for charging of course - I'm in the UK which has really, really poor rapid charging infrastructure away from the cities. The charging characteristics (& range) let it down somewhat I think, but only for road trips.
    This is on my shortlist (along with its cousin the Polestar 2) as a home-charge daily, medium suv with awd. For a bit more money, via the options list, I also like the Mercedes EQA 350 & Audi Q4 50.

Because of it's boxy upright stance, air resistance really affects the range. But 70 mph is what I want to know. Good video as usual. ...... My wife would already have one if it had a white interior. Maybe next year? ..... edit; Found it! Chris Rifaa got 240 miles at 55 mph, converted from metric of course.. czcams.com/video/lqTSMUS5JTc/video.html..

Dealer had a hand full of others sitting on the lot waiting on the defective part. The new one we are told wont have the same prob. Basically it won't charge L1 or L2. Only DC fast. The way the battery pack power back may produce an unsafe condition if one needs to accelerate for an emergency avoidance. At 210+ miles of range it’s OK for city driving, but I don’t think I would chance a road trip with it without knowing more about the charging curve. It would be nice to understand how many miles of range between 80 to 20% charge level. The back doors look small for easy entry by adults, but that’s from a quick video shot of such. What’s the towing capacity. Any “frunk” storage?

    Im almost certain you're not supposed to charge electric cars all the way up to 100% on a regular basis. Same thing goes for depleting the batteries. Have read that keeping your batteries charged between 20%-80% is the best way to prolong the lifecycle of these electric cars.

    • @JungleEddie
      @JungleEddie Před 2 lety +1

      Not a lot of people need 400hp. In the ICE world you would expect it to be a gas pig so a 200 mile range would be the equivalent. I wonder how a 250-300hp version would fair.

I removed the XC40 Recharge from my "possibles" list months ago, as I see this vehicle from Volvo with terrible range and huge cost as a complete fail. So far as I see it, Volvo is totally dropping the ball wrt EV's. I'm so desperate to get out from under the XC90 monster I currently drive that I am considering EV's from Kia, Hyundai, Nisssan, etc. Will NOT consider Tesla as I view Musk as a total punk, and have no desire to shovel my money to a self-entitled, billionaire b***h.
