Love hearing you guys talk about the speakers you have at home. Would you do a series diving into the components you run with them? Would love to better understand the systems you out together for your space & listening tastes.
The comparison was great! Would love to see the same for speakers > 5000. I would like to know how the Forte IV compare to speakers like, lets say Wharfedale Dovedale, the Sourcepoint 10 and the Elipson XLS 15.
Great and fun review. Thanks guys! I got the Lintons just cause i couldnt afford anything higher. They sound good. But I really want the Mission 770. Man those look awesome. PSB would be great to have too.
the difference in the mission 770 is staggering. So good that you do a sound comparison. Please do more.
The difference in prices is staggering as well, they simply do not belong in this category of other speakers.
You can hear so much more on the Missions with greater separation - significant difference compared to the rest.
Definatly the Mission 770 is definatly the best overall sound that I prefer with the model 5 second. I've wanted the Mission ever since I watched Terry Ellis from The Pursuit of the Perfect System review them about 14 months ago. He a a unique system for setting up microphones that blew me away. For a 2 way speaker, to me, that blows away the other 4 in your test speakers speaks volumes. I wish we had a local dealer to review in person but can't find one in less than 200 miles from here.
Not sure how you can tell from a recording in a room, played back on youtube through your speakers, how they truly sound.....hmmmm
Listened on Adam Audio S3Vs in digital mode and preferred the Mission 770 by far.
I have a question that I know you guys are best to ask of. What about up grading your own speaker that Dan from GR does he clam that these speaker have vary cheap crossover parts I do have these speaker . Thanks for any info you can give me
Cool video as usual, an idea for a future video that I am curious about is one similar to this but which avr's sound the best doing 2 and multi channel music including using separate amps and connecting blu ray players that also play sacd's and dvd etc audio discs.
In this clip, Passif 50, klh model 5, Heresy 1v, mission 770, wharfedale linton, in that order .
Just wonder which speaker in the above list good with my accupase E202. Currently using paradigm reference studio 20 v5. Planning to upgrade
How do these compare to some of the vintage stuff? Like the Pioneer HPM 100s. What's the best match for a vintage reciever?
Would the KLH model 5 stands work for the Heresy’s? Or are they not wide enough? I know you mentioned you like the Wharfdale stands but I’ve been considering the KLH stands for my Heresy’s.
Thanks for the very informative video. I'm just wondering why the Elipson XLS 15 aren't included here? I would love to know how they compare.
Informative. Also you will need to revisit this in 2073 to do the loading dock throw/build-quality test on all these after 50 years
I have the wharfdale linton's as well. Love em.
Great review guys, here's my top three..... ESS AMT 3 Towers, AR2ax, KLH
My top three were the Mission, KLH 5 and PSB based on the samples.
Very nice! Thanks for the feedback!
This is a fantastic video, THANK YOU for posting this. I could spend HOURS in your store testing speakers and amplifiers. My wife actually asked me what my biggest fantasy is, and I told her shopping in a store just like this A/B'ing systems all day to find my 'end game' system is by far what I'd like to do. These videos are exactly what I need.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the sound clip comparisons. For me, by far, the KLH model 5's had the best clarity. The female voice sounded better on the Model 5's, as well. When the kick drum started during her chorus, that was the clincher. The drum sounded the most realistic.
Not truly possible to tell anything for sure from a recording of a room, played back through youtube through YOUR speakers in your room...TONS of variables.
Yep. But one set still sounded better to me. @@kevintomb
KLH 👍
You have a little gem, hiding behind you. The Warfdale EVO 4.2 . It will give even the most expensive speakers in that room t, a run for their money. Why not do a review on 4.2's ? Most people can't afford a 5K speaker.
With the KLH being half the price of the Missions and sounding equal or even a little better in some respects, they are definitely the best value here. The Wharfedales were outclassed by those two.
Any personal view on wharfedale modus four speakers.
I pick up a set yesterday at a pawn shop for 20 dollars including the cubes.
They sound amazing to me, but I cant find any reviews on them.
Pls share
Hi guys, thanks for the comparisons. Loved the video. I have Yamaha A-s1200, do you think they'll have good synergy with Mission 770?
Sure will! If you're in the US, give us a call, and we can match you up right with what you will like
Great video! The Misions were the stand out for me with PSBs also impressive. I wish CerwinVega! Would take the opportunity and build a new premium high efficiency 3 way. The timing couldn’t be any better 🔈👍🏻
Totally agree. I feel the exact same way. I own a pair of AT12s. Which I purchased new in '92.. They still look and sound great! (After replacing the surrounds a couple times)& I'm not afraid to rock them either.
I remember in the 80s going to my local Linn dealer Linton Audio in Gateshead England I had a Rega platter 3 deck and wanted to listen to a Linn LP12, they were a Great dealer asked what Type of Music I liked, put Queen on Quite Loud OMG I was blown away the sound Quality was Amazing, it was not so much the deck as the speakers Yamaha NS1000 😍 they were Fantastic and for a not to bad price of £550 biggest regret I ever had in listening to music was not buying them speakers 🤔
I have a pair of original JBL 100's. Which of these would be an upgrade?
Based on the 3 music selections, passif 50 is number 1 to me, first song the Worfdale sounded quite compressed but opened up on the next songs
I wasn't a fan of the first song in general
Great vid!😁. I love the Lintons, closer to what I could afford over the pond in Yorkshire 🇬🇧. But sound wise the Missions just seem in a different league even on a video, but they cost way out of my and many others budget🙃. The Lintons and Stands would be a great choice, 👍
Thanks Grant!
Fukkin amazing...you guys are the best!!!
Thank you! Share the video and spread the word Rob!
I can't rate these speakers based on a CZcams vid. But, I can say this- Like a kid in a candy store, I could spend all day in your store sampling all of your offerings. You guys have the best job in the world, your equipment is high art that plays musical joy.
Thanks Chris! Come by anytime!
Finally someone stating the obvious.
Commenting on how they sound from a video is moronic
That is why MEASUREMENTS matter so much. Hearing them in real life is great, but quite hard to do. Once you hear ONE in real life and compare to how they measure, you can then get a "Good idea" of how others will sound based on measurements. Not the whole picture, obviously, but have a very good idea of their sound.
I do everytime I go.
Would the Dali flagship Epicon 2 not compete with any of these? Really interested to know because none ever matches these
I like the KLH best ! for the $ The mission's are amazing ! But I'm not giving up my baby Advent II's or my Sansui SP1500's any time soon but the new ones are sweet Lenny.
Thanks Patrick!
What is song two on the ending comparison? Great guitar work.
I went with the Linton’s and the Heresy IV’s. Totally different ends of the spectrum so depending on the music I am listening too or just depending on my ears that day I can flip between the two. Using a Yamaha R-N803 amplifier. It’s the only amp I have so can’t compare it to anything else but it seems to pair just fine with both sets of speakers, also have an SVS Micro Sub when I want to feel some more low end.
Such great input Brian! Thank you!
That’s my rig, I tend to use the Klipsch for live performances (over the Linton’s); are you using 4ohm?
@@HanifBarnwell I was using the 4 ohm setting until I saw the Audioholics’s video the other day saying that most newer amplifiers with an ohm switch cut the power in half and it’s only done for liability these days and that any quality A/B class amp will handle the lower impedance just fine on the 8 ohm setting. Flipping between the two settings I didn’t really hear anything stand out to me sound wise. I haven’t had a chance to run it very long to see if it gets very warm since making the switch but I don’t feel the amp has ever run very warm, although admittedly I don’t run it anywhere near full out. I don’t think I ever get louder than -10db setting on the volume with the Linton’s. Usually between -15 and -12 is more likely.
@@briancopp9412 interesting, I’ve found vocals sound better. I’ll go back to 8ohm and evaluate.
@@HanifBarnwell I just did it the other day and I was listening to instrumental stuff. I’ll continue to mess around with it as well and play some vocal stuff with it as well. The Audioholics guys said it would have more power at 8 ohms but I didn’t notice a volume jump or anything either. I figured I would experiment with all this stuff for a bit. I just got this stuff within the last few months and am still messing around with things.
Playing through my system, the KLH really stood out, the Mission also but it was a bit muddy especially in the rock. But I was surprised at the lack of bass in the Heresy...😮
I Liked the Wharfedale and KLH. The Klipsch is a perfect candidate for your throwing game.
Very good video. Thanks guys
Thank you!!
Mission 770 is my pick for sound. It sounded the most real the rest didnt have as high resolution, with the Wharfedale being the least resolving. KLH was my Second for sound Heresy’s dead Last. Heresy’s have never been pleasing for me, too Shrill and Pitchy. Awesome Vid as always.
Thanks Doc! Great thoughts
I'd suggest Heresy speakers belong in a "lively" 25'x30' room or larger with a high ceiling. I've owned these, and they were too big for me and sounded shrill and muddy as my room(s) was too small, but set up in my buddy's garage-studio they sounded amazing with some of the cleanest bass I can recall. Heresy's can work as stage monitors for a live band, so they're in an entirely different class than the rest of these speakers. If you're not sitting 15+ feet away, too close.
Surprise, DrSinisster! My #1 and #2 choices were the same; Mission 770 were my #1 pick, no doubt of it. The KLH, were to my surprise, my #2 pick! The Wharfedale, which I presumed ahead would be my #2 pick, were actually not! The Wharfedale Lintons were, instead, my #3 pick. The female singer's voice is what nailed #2 and #3 choices for me. I agree about Klipsch being my last choice, also. Never much liked the the thinness, the shrillness nor the honkiness (not here, but it's even worse) coloration of some horns. I have noticed that tube amps tend to work better for horns (especially with the super-warm, lush and smooth sound with the EL34 power tubes plugged in), but are still not a complete cure.
@@xxxYYZxxx Hi, an excellent point said about the listening distance. It makes sense. 👍
@@xxxYYZxxx Having heard all of these, the Heresy if by FAR the worst sounding and FAR from neutral. They may sound "amazing" cranked up with some music, but it is a very colored and non accurate sound. The class they are in, is called "Lacking High Fidelity", They DO have their place for sure, but if one wants a speaker that plays what is on the actual recording, these are NOT the speaker.
Great demonstration. This is one of the few videos where the comparison is valid. You guys know how to record music. The audio quality makes the judgements easy. The PSB and the KLH are almost the same. The Linton sounds bland, but maybe that's because the level is lower. The Heresy is just awful. The 770's are excellent, but not that far ahead of the PSB and KLH. The 770's are not worth over twice the price of the other two. I can't see anyone being unhappy with either the PSB or KLH. I currently own Ariel Acoustics 7T's so I think I'm OK for a while.
Great thoughts! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, for me the PSB passive and the KLH sound the best, guess I will trial them with my R-N2000A
What amp works well with the KLH model 5 ?!
I’m still not ready to part ways with my ADS speakers but the kHL 5 sound really good !
Passif 50 sounds great with the songs you’ve chosen.
Speakers with offset driver placement usually win in imaging and I noticed the PSBs have offset tweeters!
Warfedale wins great value because it’s made in China , having said that I will admit that I own a pair of Diamond 225 bookshelves
That sound amazing ! Warfedale are great sounding speakers !
Lastly I’m partial to horns for my top third pair I vote klipsch! I own a pair Heresy ll and love them!
I will be shopping for a pair of La scala next year so I will have to fly up to Baltimore and visit your speaker show room!
Great and fun review thanks!👍🏻
Awesome! Very good points! Fly on up, we got ya!
Maybe the offset speaker is a Canadian thing? My Mirage SM 2.5 3-way speakers from a long time ago put the midrange and tweeter towards the insides as well.
Any standard 2-way can be set sideways to attain a "nested" tweeter configuration. Technically, non offset speakers can be tilted inward, to get the same "offset" tweeter position as any offset speakers, which may also help with side baffle reflections too.
5:57 I believe the Missions have an 8" lower frequency driver, not a 10".
Fun vid, well done guys
Thanks Tony! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great show lads , tks.
Thank you!
JBL-100, found a rough looking pair at thrift store, $50.00. I refurbished the cabinets, added heavier gauge wirring, and new 5 way speaker connections. The 200 watt Adcom Amp. Yes, throughly pissed off the wife. Love the sound!
MISSION, KLH, PSB. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
The mission 770 was on another level...but surprisingly, the passif was amazing. It almost held its own against the 770. I know i will watch this one.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!
I enjoyed it, pulled a muscle, but it was worth it. Thanks for watching!
Not me crying at the end as I just finished restoring a pair of advent speakers 🤣😅
Love your video's, love your store, pity you're not in Australia.
Nice job, thanks. Mission were killer but at a price. The PSB impressed, terrific bargain. Like shoot out with them and smaller Mission 700
This video is the one im looking for thank you... I think the passif 50 is my taste for rock music
You are welcome! Thanks for watching, now you gotta come to the store!
How's the l100 classic compare? They're also in this price range
I remember as a kid when my parents bought me a pair of realistic mach 2s for like 250 a piece and damn I was like that's so expensive. Still have them, of course had to refoamed but still shaking the house. Crazy it's like 5000 for speakers.
Mach 2's were intense!
With speakers, you're actually paying them to ship empty space through empty space, a very expensive proposition, with or without speakers involved. 😄
In this order. Mission 770, Model 5, Passif, Linton, Heresy. Tough deciding with vocals. Guys, I could have used those speaker boxes.
For me I can just use 2 speakers in that list, the passif 50 whis is my number one with that sound quality, and the KLH model 5, as my second option
Nice choices!
Really like the sound of the PSB's at that price point.
I listened to them for a week straight and loved them!
Though not so vintage in looks, shouldn't the new Andrew Jones Mofi concentric large bookshelf be included at the $3700 range?
Great reviews and info for these fantastic examples of true hifi audio! Thanks
It will be once we receive it. I think the follow up video to this will feature the Sourcepoint, Forte IV, Mission 700, and Elysian 4 among others.
I love all these retro modern speakers, I always felt Vintage Receivers are awesome but I wanna pair them with Modern Speakers.. I went with what I thought was the best semi vintage speaker that still had modern qualitys ( ADS L810 ). I have no problem with my ADS speakers, Do you think something like the Linton would be a worthy upgrade or would the ADS sounds the same or better? Keep up the great fun content, love this hobby!
The ADS are great and popular but there is something about the Lintons I love!
I am telling you, and listen, your ADS L810s are likely a fair bit better than all these. Don't tell JustAudioHIFI I said so, they may be mad at me. Seriously, be careful with stands and placement. Make sure all connections are tight and you are using decent cable. What receiver do you have? Not all vintage receivers are good. Probably a tenth of them are worth having over even a 1990s integrated. I hope your source is excellent. No rubbishy turntables. Old studio decks are good. Old Japanese pre 1980 are good, generally. I could make you a list of stuff...
@@martinda7446 My 810s are powered by a fully rebuilt Marantz 1060 ( just as a preamp ) and Hafler XL-280 dual mono power amp ( 175wpc ) and 1 ohm stable.. For a turntable I have a Technics SL1200MK2 w/ Ortofon Blue.. Decent setup to match the speakers.
How do the Mission 770's compare to the more price equivalent Klipsch Heritage Forte IV's? I know the sound is different but which would you have if you could only have one, and why? Thanks
Oh very interesting, would love to have some people comment on this one!
@@JustAudioHiFi Thanks for the reply. I'm asking because I haven't heard any of them but by your samples and since you & the guys in the store have heard them in the same room, same setup I was hoping for a reply from you guys. It is just your opinion, there isn't really a right or wrong, just interested in your opinion. I think the Forte IV's would be a more fair comparison than the Heresy's. Thanks.
Wait until you all listen to the all new Revival Audio Atalante 5 speakers they can hang with the Big Boys but are much cheaper !
The Best-Kept Secret on the Market...Right Now !
Your going to Love these Speakers...OMG
I was happy with the samples. I live in France, I have one pair of klh5 and really love them. I would once again pick the klh5. The Mission 770 were also nice. But i prefer the look of the klh5. When it comes to the wharfedale linton they are definitely not enough resolving for me. Thank you for your great job. I really appreciate your channel.
Thanks Marcel! Great to have you watching from France! Very exciting!
Those Advent crashes were great!!! 🥳🤣🤣
Thank you!
Klipsch Heresy IV plus Rel T9X sun is sublime. I’m interested in the differences you hear and why you like the Heresy’s on the Wharfedale stands??? I find myself often putting my head down low and thinking my Heresy’s sound even better, so I’ve contemplated lifting them up too. But I know many say that’s a no go. Thanks for any feedback you can offer!
Love em on the stands, makes a huge difference for that exact reason for me
I am ordering the Wharfedale Linton stands. Could you please share how you secure the speakers to the stands? I need stability due to animals/kids in the house. Thanks!
@@TJRainbowWarrior hope you are getting them at ShopJustAudio.com . They secure with rubber grips they are pretty steady honestly
I want to help Mikey eat but you need to provide a Just Audio Branded pair of those rad sunglasses you wear in addition to the t-shirt. Love this video as I was just requesting you throw PSB into the speaker comparison mix in response to your KLH vs Wharfedale video - I need to catch up on my viewing of your channel.
I love my Wharfedale Linton speakers in combination with the Studer B67.
Love mine too! Thanks for sharing Martin!
Love your video's, keep up the good work. Greetings from the Netherlands. 👍
Loved the Iron Maiden wannabe track. The Mission 770 would be my choice.
Yeah great video!!….Those Missions are still on my radar …
Great Tony! Hit us up!
@@JustAudioHiFi … would do but I’m in Sydney Australia..🤣🤪
I'm a Klipsch guy but have to go with the Missions
I'm really surprised at how much of a difference there was between the Missions and everything else. I guess you get what you pay for, in that case at least. My second choice is the KLH 5. I bet those babies would sing with a tube amp! I grew up with my dad's Dynaco MKIIIs and KLH model sixes. The bass on those guys was massive.
Totally agree with you regarding the Mission's, also found the Heresy IV the most resets of the lot.
Love Passif 50 sound....!!❤
I think for the klh 5 black is the way to go, with the grayish grills is sweet
I just got back into audio after a long hiatus. I'm surprised to find that I'm apparently a KLH 5 fan, at a very close #2 according to the tiny speakers in my computer monitor, and phone Bluetooth earbuds. My main system in the mid to late '70's included four Ohm C2 speakers two stacked per side, Luxman Amp, a Dual704 or Technics turntable, Micro Acoustic cartridge, Nakamichi Wedge 600 cassette tape player. BTW, about 50 years ago we would measure and equalize decibel output because some speakers were simply louder, but not necessarily better at the same volume. The overall best Missions are in another price range, appeared to have a louder bass, seemingly favoring mid bass over power draining lower bass. The Klipsch are at #5, not balanced, a bit harsh. I was rooting for the Wharfedale's as I liked the look, the staff each own the brand, and there's a beautiful pair of W70D on Marketplace at a bargain price, but they were #4 IMO. But if the Passif disappear into the room, they're my #1 pick for a medium size room, the KLH if it was larger.
You guys are awesome. Great channel, and if I lived anywhere close to where you are (or even just in the same dang country), I'd be buying from you!
For a music genre all-rounder and looks, I'd go with the Passif 50 or the Model 5 paired with a tube amp. If I only listened to Jazz and vocals, I'd go with the Mission 770 for their mid-range. If I had to use with an AV system, I'd go with the "horny" Heresy! ...Personally, I'm hoping to get a pair of less than vintage "spider eyed" Tekton Impact Monitors.
Thanks for sharing! Great opinion there! Its LOG LOG LOG!
Can you do a review of the Andrew Jones mofi vs the mission 770. Thanks 😊
I currently have both in the store!
What one will work best with my Marantz 2325 any thoughts 💭
Using a Android device as a source n you tube, Outlaw rr2160 receiver and e312 cerwin Vegas speakers the order I liked 1. KLH 2 .mission 3. Heresy 4.Wharfdale Linton 5. etc. ? Just how sounds to me now with that said it could different in the store. Please do more of these comparison, Thank You.
Thanks Scott! Appreciate the feedback, glad you liked it!
The Mission 770's sound really good!
For sure!
This would be my dream job!
You need to buy depending on your room size, can easily be too small or two big.
We all love to go the bigger the more watts the better!
But that truly is not the case! I have wharfedale 220’s in a small room that are fantastic
These Klipsch Heresy speakers belong in rooms much larger than the other speakers. Heresy's are literally "stage monitors" guised as house speakers, a totally different class of speakers than 2-way stand mounts.
Remember when Best Buy had a dedicated speaker/audio room...??? I do...
How about Circuit City...??? Again I do...
What I really would like to have, a set of "vintage" Cerwin Vega...grew up(70's) with them, love them...
What I "settled" for, the KLH Model 5...
After listening to the sound clips through my computer speakers(Polk Audio), it appears(sounds) like I made the right choice...
They ma not have listening rooms but we do! You made a great choice!
I’ve had two Amps that I remember loving the looks of. Onkyo M-5000R and a Tonewinner 5180. Gorgeous both yes. Just amazing looking.
The Onkyo M-5000R is just ridiculous it actually sounded even better than it looked. Bar none best amp I’ve heard
VU meters a la old M-504/506
Tonewinner was JUNK and falling apart internally kept losing channels and NO WARRANTY SUPPORT but Fantastic looking amp TOO BAD.
It did have a single “UV” meter not a VU…
$2500 cash is a lot but it does soo much while looking like Playmate of the year. I get it straight Hi-Fi pron on a budget.
Looking to see availability now thanks!
One of your funniest videos, you should do a commercial for a butcher shops chain or whatever with those green googles. Oh boy you almost gave me a stroke LOL!!!
Hi guys, the heritage xls 15 you have already tested, which rank would you gave it to him ? Ty
I'd love to know this as well!
Klispch has Klipsch Heritage ProMedia computer speakers. The subwoofer looks exactly like the Heresy. Those things are very LOUD for personal computers, LOL.
I always wanted to try that one!
I've had multiple pairs of Cerwin Vegas multiple pairs of JBL monitors l100 the 4311s pioneer Hpms been through them all im currently running a pair of AR90s best speakers I've ever had they sound great there built like a tank my current amp is 220 a channel At 8 ohms crazy loud absolutely no distortion if I upgrade I'm going with the AR9s . Love the SX1980 god I wish I could get my hands on one of those had the spec one and two years ago I should have never parted with it.
PSB Passif 50/mission/klh?
idk i think i prefer mine ^_^
When you were talking about amplifier power output you mentioned too much power above a speakers rated power doing damage... you're more likely to damage speakers with an underpowered amp than with an overpowered amp due to signal clipping.... because clipping is basically a DC voltage. That's a good way to fry your tweeters and crossover.
I have a pair of sansui sp 20000 i match them with any ,, feeding off a tube amp
1 Mission. 2 KLH. 3 Wharfedale. And I bought the Lintons (they sound better at home than on CZcams, but I’m still amazed how different their voicing was!)
I have the Lintons as well, great choice!
Have some old Tannoy sgm12x , at home , in good condition. These I can sell for a good price.
Linton are they better speakers ?.
Never heard the Tannoys
The sound demo wasn't level matched but from what I heard I really liked the KLH and Mission...I think I'd be happy with either. Crappy part is I just ordered a pair of Linton's. I might need to give the KLH an in home listen. Missions are out of my price range at the moment. Although for that price I probably would look at floorstanders
Are you still disappointed with Linton's? Or it's not so bad as in this review?
Im struggling with a choice. Another option to choose are missions zx2 now
@@minion1826 I am not disappointed with the Linton's. In this video I didn't think the Linton's sounded as good...but in my home they sound very good. The Linton's are a very big bookshelf speaker though.
@@NosEL34 thanks for reply 👍 it's helpful
@@minion1826 I think most people would like them...unless you like the higher treble of speakers like Focal or the budget series B&W.
the misson blew the others away the klh 2nd but it does sound like the mic and volume are not matched
What about Golden Ear Triton 2 plus towers w built in 1200 watt sub woofers .
Best to my ear: Mission; then KLH; and maybe a tie between Linton and Passif 50. Klipsch sounded very thin.
I am surprised the Polk R700 was not considered at a price point of $2200
For Elysian 2 , when you can put a review?
Is the first song just a bass riff? It sounds that way on the Mission. On all the others it sounds like guitars.
