IT'S DONE - RED DRAGON HAS BEEN SOLD
I am now suffering from a very unique form of PTSD - Post Tesla Stress Disorder! But the channel is not closing. To the contrary - I am increasing the frequency of uploads once we land in Cozumel.
This video tells the story of the dramatic sale of my 5.5 year friend - Red Dragon.
And then, with time on my hands, I now have TWO channels to maintain. This one (Model3Man) and the new one (CozumelMan - link above) about our new life in Cozumel (the move, what's involved, what's life like on the island for an expat, the beauties of the island and some interesting surprises to come.
First off, I want you wish you all the best on your new chapter. I will be joining your new channel as soon as I complete this. I want to sincerely thank you for all you've meant to me. You were the first Tesla channel that I followed when I started thinking about the possibility of getting a Tesla. I learned so much from you. I finally made the plunge and I was one of the many that used your referral code when I put in the order for my MY. As you know, I only had that car for just under a year when I was involved in a head-on collision, on my way to pick up my grandson. If I was in any other car, I would not be here right now, as per all the medical staff that took care of me at the hospital, but thankfully I am, and I am driving my second MY, which is coming up it's one year anniversary. Thank you for playing a role in me still being here. You were very kind to me by taking my call when I needed to get your opinion. Thank you, thank you, thank you :-)

I think the sentimentality comes not directly from the loss of the car itself, but for all of the stories I shared about my life with the car. The accidents; the good times; the opportunities to share with others how to get the most out of the car - those are the things I feel sentimental about. But - I'm VERY excited that I get the chance to buy into the next generation of affordable Teslas - and once again share that story. And yes - probably get sentimental about THAT car too!🤣

That was a really sad story & also one that was expected knowing how 'stealerships' work. I can understand how stressful that experience must have been and you will never forget it. My next car WILL be a Tesla and I have been waiting for years to buy one. I'm old & it will be my last car.

Sad day trading in or selling a car. Luckily I've only traded in one car of my own, but I got a new 87 5.0 Mustang at that time. :D The others were all sold to or given to relatives. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with, and hope to enjoy your adventures in Cozumel! Safe travels!
You're right - always a sad day when your prized car gets "ripped away" and someone else gets to own it. Still - I'm excited not only for the next phase of life in Cozumel, BUT also for the run up to the release of information on the new Tesla and finally, the chance to buy one. And youtube every aspect of it!

I just sold my 2019 AWD Model 3 a month ago and have been on fot ever since. It was a hard sell but had to as it was a lemon. The good news i’m getting RWD Model 3 highland in two days! Can’t wait! THANKS for your interesting comment! That Model 3 Highland version is dynamite. You are fortunate indeed. Thing is, manufacturing and design have been dramatically improved in Tesla world! And you get to be a part of the latest update which is virtually a completely new car. Lucky you. I will have to wait to get the Q/2 model but it will also be worth it in the end
Hope everything turns out ! From what I read living outside Canada more than 6 months May result in losing your health care benefits. I can foresee possibly living in Mexico part time. Haven’t been down since pre Covid . It’s a massive switch up however I admire people who take charge of their lives and take advantage of what tone is left . Initially retirement is like a vacation until a few years go by and you snap to attention and resolve to do what you really want and what brings you the most joy and meaning. Take care !

The rotors weaken from exposure to salt and a lack of use which means the moisture is not often driven out of the steel.
Aaahhh. OK - that makes sense and that is always possible when regen reduces the amount of physical braking we do. I do wish they'd taken photos to show me - could have made for a very useful episode on the channel!
@@model3man brake discs, being high carbon steel, have crevices where moisture enters into the metal lattice and can eat them out if not regularly heated by the friction of braking in salty areas of the world.
I could understand your heartache if it was one of your guitars. :) I'd consider an Arcimoto for Cozumel. True, too small to pickup visitors at the airport, but that is a bonus.
Haha. You make good points - especially about not being able to pick up visitors from the airport :) now, you would have to pry one of my guitars out of my cold dead hands to borrow a freeze from Clint Eastwood. Those are coming with me on the plane on the 8th of December, as how else am I going to sit under a palm tree composing songs on the beach??

Yes - I did list it here with the channel followers and did get one person interested enough to contact me. But for individuals here in Canada, the interest rates on line of credit accounts is so punitive that I did not get any firm offers. But you're right. I too sold my 2018 Model 3 (Aja). Traded in for an 2023 Ultra Red Model X. Sad day for me. I just couldn’t have both. Love Roxanne my model X. Rides smooth with the air suspension and so quiet
Seniors are wise; from life experience, mistakes, and knowledge. Seniors know scammers, experts at people. This is the reason why I would want to buy used EVs from privately owned (one owner,preferably) who loved their EV.

I absolutely WOULD be tempted. However, dragon lady keeps tight rain on our finances now that we retired, and also, the island of Cozumel is a small one and a big flashy car would stand out like a sore thumb. The new model two is going to be a smaller vehicle, and would be more in keeping with life on the island. Also, would love a completely different car to focus my CZcams episodes on so I am going to have to be very very very patient :-)

Given that we are retiring, the expensive Tesla Highland versus the much less expensive model Q or two doesn't give me that option :-). Dragon lady is guarding our finances very vigourously and the money from red dragons sale will fund the cost of the new less expensive car.

I feel like that too, sometimes. We've been here 30 years. But.... retirement here is very expensive, and I long for a return to my scuba diving years as a dive instructor - and Vancouver provides only cold water diving - and that's not for me :)

Hi Peter, love your channel. We have a 2020 model 3 and of course love it. Question: when you left your Red Dragon with the dealership did you return everything to factory settings?
Ahem.... sadly I didn't. BUT, I removed the car from my account using my app and I tend to think that MIGHT clear records of me from the car. BUT.. I also believe that since Mitsubishi sells many Tesla vehicles, they would have a policy in place to reset the car's computer to factory settings since they do have some Tesla experts on staff. At least, I hope that's they case.

Legacy auto dealers are a nightmare for legacy auto makers. They gouged customers trying to buy electric vehicles.
Legacy auto dealers abused their customers by adding market price adjustments to gouge their customers for EVs
They added pricey add ons and other costs to pump up the prices and their profits.
Tesla has the right idea. Buy online. No hassle. No sitting in a show room for hours. No salesman BS. No crazy markups.
No I have to see my manager BS. With Tesla you can buy a vehicle in 5 minutes or less online. The dealers have no one to blame but themselves. The dealers are dragging the legacy auto makers down with them.

So funny that a Stealership used the, all the rotors needed replacing line, yet the brake pads were fine. I have heard a lot of people selling and trading in their Tesla's where FSD didn't add much if any to the value of the car. Hope you took the Mobile Connector and console tray from your car, since new ones don't include those anymore. I did when I traded in my Model 3 to Tesla and I don't feel bad about it because they low balled me on the trade in value and the Acceleration Boost added nothing to it. But where you're moving to, do they even have a Tesla Service Center to get a new Tesla? And if not, then what about warranty service or any service? Superchargers?
I didn't think of removing the mobile connector as I had included it in the advertisement. Anyway, it's gone so there's no changing that. Now, they don't have a Tesla Service centre on the island of Cozumel, but they do on the mainland near Playa, Del Carmen and Cancun. I do have a Tesla home charger and the condo block that I have bought into. Are going to install it for me free of charge just so long as other condo owners can share in the use of it. So, very exciting to think that there is still a Tesla in my future. And I will still be able to do home charging.
I made a cross country move 27 years ago. I will never move again. Langley BC is my home now.
Langley is actually a very wonderful place to live. You're out of the business of downtown Vancouver. You have the countryside around you. And many things tend to be somewhat cheaper in Langley than in central Vancouver.
Congratulations, love Cozumel, love my 2018 Model 3, andI have enjoyed your channel over the years. I think you’ve made some good choices despite your feeling of loss. I am curious: did the accident you had early on in your M3 adventure greatly affect your resale? All the best!
Hey Bruce! Thanks for your kind comments. Surprisingly, the two accidents that I had did not appear to affect the resale at all, and here is why. All of the repairs were done at authorised Tesla repair centres, and overseen by Tesla staff in the final stages. The repairs were absolutely perfect, and there were no alignment issues, paint issues, or rust issues as a consequence of the repairs. In fact, the panel gaps were less than when I bought the car :-). So, I got as much as other people with clean vehicles are getting and that was after, in each case, about an hour and a half inspections of the car before they offered me a price.

Absolutely, no doubt about that! From the humble beginnings of the 2012 leaf, through the 2018, Tesla model three, and looking forward to the model Q or 2, (or whatever he ends up calling it), I am an EV guy through and through, and there is no going back on that :-)
You should've never given any dealer the time of day, let alone trusting them with your car in an area without you with it. Anyone still naive to dealer motives and sleaze - I don't know what to say. Good luck in your new location. I would stay away from dealers period.
First time I've seen your channel. Good look with the next stage. Plenty of space for a good well thought Tesla channel. Please don't fall into the trap of advertising "athletic green sludge" just to make a quick buck. Suggest maybe building the word "Tesla" or electric into your channel name...All the best.

Yes, I get intensely annoyed by all of the channels that advertise what are clearly just sponsors products and not something that the channel owner passionately believes in. I have taken pride in the fact that I have never had a sponsor on my channel, although I have reviewed products by different companies. I never will have a sponsor because I know the irritation it arouses in me every time the flow of a video is disrupted by the owner sticking an ad in the very middle of it. I always skip those ads so I don't know why people think they would actually work.
@@model3man I switched to paid CZcams without ads as it was driving me mad. Some channels are very good but the paid sponsorship seems to be getting worse. I understand it's a business or semi business for creators and the kit has to be paid for but a balance has to be stuck. If someone gives a genuine honest review then all good.

Hey Dennis. I would also like it to be less than three years. As long as I get to see what it looks like, and the specifications within the next year, that'll give me the encouragement to wait out whatever time frame is required before it is on sale.
You are assuming the Model 2 will be sold in the country your are going to be living!
Well, since the new giga factory in Nueva Leon, Mexico is the intended manufacturing location of the new model, I firmly believe it will be sold in Mexico. Otherwise, I have family in Houston Texas and can place the order through them. I do know that the model '2' is first being manufactured in Texas giga factory and Berlin giga factory, but that once the Mexican factory is up and running, they will replicate the production lines down there, and dedicate most of that factory to its production. So, one way or the other, I will be able to get my hands on one and use it as the basis of a new direction for my channel.
@@model3man Tesla has decided to start production of the Model 2 in Austin, Texas, delaying the Mexico plant construction, until interest rates drop. But building them there does not mean the vehicles will be sold there. Mexico needs charging infrastructure first. The big rumor is the car is first destined for Latin America, not the USA or Canada or Mexico. Think Brazil…

@@model3man one other scenario is, as the Highland Edition is introduced into the US and Canadian markets, the value of the used, old, noisy (relatively), versions drops as people sell off their old versions and buy the Highland version. Just like old shoes lose their shine, when you get your eyes on those new shoes! That means you might be able to find a used Model 3 to continue your Model 3 journey, in a less expensive chassis. You still enjoy the windfall of having sold your Model 3 before the value dives, but then can afford to pick up a used Tesla at a cost your Better Half, the purse string holder, will approve of, especially after she sees what it costs to feed a gasoline eating machine again!

FSD is worth nothing
Sadly, in the dealer reseller channel, you are absolutely correct. Two a buyer who desperately wants it, they would've been happy to pay a couple of thousand more instead of 16,000 more. However, the dealer reseller channels, do not credit it with adding any extra value to the car, so that is an unfortunate reality.

Trevor from model 3 owners club on CZcams. Toronto Canada area didn’t own a tesla was driving a Lincoln for a long time until he was a model 3 owner and Ken his co host Ken didn’t have a ev either until buying a leaf for 2 years then finally a model 3 and Ken started his own channel.
Ha ha. I can't be a model 3 man in the sense of owning one, but I can continue to use my channel name - as that's the one that most people know me by.
However, I may broaden or change the name - as it makes more sense if I'm addressing the entire Tesla community as opposed to only model 3 who owners. Trevor from model three owners club also changed his channel name to broaden his focus several years back and it was obviously a good thing for him.
