- Danelectro's new '59XT guitar was an exciting announcement at NAMM 2018, and we're stoked to have a chance to test out this sharp-looking axe. Control-wise, the guitar keeps it simple, with a three-way pickup selector switch stacked above tone and volume control knobs, but it ups the game with a Wilkinson tremolo and a lipstick pickup. There’s something about an overdriven Danelectro that does it for me.
It’s gritty but clean at the same time, not drowned out in bass or mids, but still plenty of jangly low end.
I personally think they’re they’re one of the best playing and sounding guitars out there, and this one is especially awesome!

Great demo of the pickup sounds - it really sounds good! EDiT: I got one and I love the tones and the tremolo. Solidly built guitars that have some very nice jangly tones! Only thing missing is high neck access in the upper frets so beware.

I have the 64xt (same guitar, different shape) This has more versatility than any other guitar in my collection. These are amazing and affordable guitars, everyone should have at least one Dano in their collection.

Oh boy, very tasty indeed! I always liked these Danelectros visually but the dual single coil thing ones never did it for me sonically. Added to my ever growing GAS list.

Maybe mentioned before below - but what pedals/amp effects are you using on this vid? And how in tune does it stay after dive bombing with the whammy bar? (I play surf)!
This may be a stupid question but how do you string this one? Is it wrap around like the 59x? I can't tell with this one. the wrap around bridge is the only thing keeping me buying a 59x, so if the 59xt remedies that I'll pick up one of these.

What gauge of strings do you use on this guitar?
I have 10's on mine but it is not the comfiest to play, just wonder if I should put 9's on.
Is It me, or this guitar sounds amazing for the price?
The cleaner you play, the more special this guitar sounds. It can be clear & glassy in a _fresh_ way, different from a Strat. (But kick on the o.d. pedals or really drive the amp and it hardly matters any more.)

I’ve tried so many expensive vibrato/tremolos, over hyped , expensive and the Wilkinson WV50 or 100 are the smoothest and most stable.

The "Danoelectric Mojo" doesn't really jibe with upgrades. The same way a Tele needs it's twang, the Dano needs the cheaper pick ups for that Dano-jangle.

Not sure what you mean, I get plenty of destruction out of this running through different combinations of my gain stage (Wave Cannon Mk II, Benson Germanium Fuzz, Plasma Pedal) coming out my JC40 amp.

Very cool but it doesn't sound anything like classic Danelectro. I'm sticking to my 56 Pro.

Agreed. The lipstick humbucker has something wrong about it. These new guitars are still cool, maybe they will bring some new audience to the Danelectro world. But real Danelectro is something else... Their sound is special and unique for a reason.
Yeah, the lipsticks and the series is the deal. Three radically diff tones if you set it up right. PUP switch does take a beating tho. Think I need to replace my OEM one w something more substantial. That and work on my slide.
DC3 for me. 3 single coil sounds, 3 humbucker sounds, and a blow switch. Still, I do like the look of these.
David RF danelectos still sound and look unique lol i knew these new lines would bring out the “purists.” Its a good guitar, sounds like a danelectro, has a bit more playability, is constructed probably to better standards, and is inexpensive for what it is....stop complaining that’s it’s not real or that it’s losing its heritage...chances are their company was about to tank and this is them trying to revive it....let them revive it

I always thought the point of a Danelectro was that it was half broken. Honestly this thing is way too functional to be a real Danelectro.
The wonky single coils, dodgy bridge, bad intonation were part of the fun cheapo vibe. Putting a modern two point trem, adjustable saddles, humbucker etc kind of ruins the vibe. Still looks like a fun guitar tho.

What I’m saying is the majority of people will be playing with some kind of dirt the majority of the time, and because of that more maketing time is spent showcasing how it sounds with dirt. Of course I love a clean guitar sound myself, and there are danelectro videos where this is showed off, I’m just saying, from a marketing perceptive it’s not too surprising they didn’t have one here

If Danelectro wants to come out with new products, fine. Great idea. Do it.
But don't _lie_ to the consumer with cheesy misleading marketing such as abusing the word "Vintage" every time they introduce a new product to a generation that didn't play the actual vintage instruments and probably doesn't know the difference. It's pretty insulting to the customers.

Page was famous for playing a 59?, hendrix also famously played a danny? Numerous guys got their start on sears guitars and played them when they got older. Relax lol
