- These new Danelectro models rip! The 59X comes with a humbucker-sized P90 in the neck, and a splittable lipstick humbucker in the bridge. The guitar is light as a feather, and the neck is smooth and comfortable to play.

Thanks for watching!
That is one beautiful guitar and sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing with us Eric✌🏻
Thanks Wilbert!
I’m really digging this new member of the family!
"This Year's Model" changed my life! Great pick and a great arrangement.
Yeah! That record kills! So many great, venomous songs 🐍
I bought it on cassette at a flea market for a quarter. That a pretty good price for epiphany.
Cool! Love the P90 addition! I’ve been totally thinking of getting one!
Yeah! The p90 sounds great in this guitar! I really like the lipstick humbucker too - nice to have some hot pickups in these danos - makes ‘em good and tough sounding 🤘🏻
totally in love with the bridge pickup on this one, it's a big part of why i want this particular guitar so bad
Yeah! The lipstick humbucker has a great bite to it!
Sweet Axe Eric! Great tones. The Dano & Silvertone are soulmates for sure! Thanks for sharing, Rock on my friend!
Thanks Dave! Yeah, the dano and the silvertone are working together very well!
Thanks for the great review! Cool sounding guitar! Your playing is really good too! Will keep an eye out for one of these locally!
Thanks!
These recent danos are really cool - they better than people think they would for the price!
Very nice sounds for the type of music being played I'm sold on this guitar I will buy one. Also very nice playing keep up the good playing!!.
Thanks John!
Yeah, these new danos are really quite versatile! They look so rockin' though, ya just gotta play some garagey sounding stuff on them :-)
Great tones dude. The pickup config is sooo compelling....like you said, "Boy, that sounds good."
Thanks Edgar!
It's really quite surprising considering the budget of this guitar - I was thinking I'd swap the pickups out after I got it, but they sound really great!
Been watching a few demos of this 59X and I have to say I like the growly tone it produces, seems no other guitar sounds quite like it . Good demo just confirms what I already heard. Its on my list.
Yeah!
The lightweight body adds a certain jangle-ness to everthing. Plus, the pickups are shockingly good - I thought I'd have to upgrade them but it's not necessary at all!
I played one of these at a music store here in Mississippi. I loved it. Very versatile. I was playing through a Peavey Valve King, and a blues artist named Mr. Sippi came up, and I said check out this guitar. He played it for about 15 minutes and walked out of the store with it. I told the guy at the counter they should give me a commission. 😂
I love Danos, I have a 59 in blue alligator finish, a 64 ( Mosrite shaped with a Bigsby and same pickups as yours) and a 12 string electric. I love these guitars as much as anything I’ve ever had and they’re so much bang for the buck. Congratulations!
Cool! Those 64s look awesome! Gotta love the bigsby action too!!
always loved your tone dude! this guitar suits you super well
Thanks Brian! These new danos are crazy good for the money - jangly, lightweight, and versatile!
Sure they’re not a strat, tele, les Paul, or gretsch - but they’ve got their own thing goin on
Came back to this video with the knowledge that they make a version of this guitar with a mosrite slab body shape and a tremolo and i just might have to get one of those lol.
Wow, you make it sound amazingly!
Thanks Monsieur!
These newer danos are really great guitars for the money!
Can't get enough of that opening son, Eric! Love it. mdv
Thanks!
I've gotta put together a vid lesson on how to play that - it's my peppy little arrangement of Elvis Costello's "You Belong to Me."
It's still got that new guitar smell ! congrats !
Thanks Sam!
Bought a mustang because of you, this one is highly tempting indeed...
I’m the worst gear purchase enabler!
Welcome to the mustang party 🐎🎉
Superb playing man
Thanks so much!
I love this spunky little guitar - it's really easy to play, lightweight, and surprisingly versatile!
Beautiful sounding and looking Dano. Wow! You pulled out some BJM. Coolest man. 👍✌
Yeah these new Danos are great!
And points to you for noticing the BJM!
Viva le obscure psychedelia!
Tasty tones Eric.
Great acquisition! You sure have a great taste for music and tone.
Thanks Ander!
I've got this puppy set up for slide now and it SLAYS.
Awesome demo never thought about getting one of these I do now greetings from Bonnie Scotland
I like these guitars. They have their own identity, and this one has some real variations because of the mix of pickup types. I'd buy one. Good demo.
The guitar's scale isn't quoted on the Danelectro site, but it has been measured elsewhere at 648mm / 25.5" - Strat scale. Weight is quoted as 3.24kg / 7.15lbs (7lbs 2.4oz). Bathroom scales can be pretty inaccurate when measuring what to them are very small weights: luggage scales or postal scales would be better.
Aha! Thanks for the info, Paul!
Enjoy Eric, sounds great
Thanks Frank!
I’m really digging the lightweight feel and growly p90
cool man, new guitars are always fun
Indeed! Each one increases sonic possibilities 🤘🏻
Thx for the review. Cool guitar. Loved the opening jam.
Thanks!
That opening bit is me playing around with Elvis Costello's "You Belong To Me" - love that 2nd record!
@@EricHaugenGuitar his best IMO, especially the versions with Radio Radio on it!
Yeah! The Attractions are so DEADLY on that album!
Awesome, thanks for the nice demo. I just ordered one in dark blue. Also, loved the Brian Jonestown Massacre riffs...cool little surprise there. :)
Oooh nice! Congrats in advance!
I just ordered the 12 string version - that'll really up my BJM game :-)
I had to like this video the moment you started playing “You Belong to Me”
Yeah!
That whole record SLAYS!! One of my all time favorites.
Epic like allways!!!!
Thanks man!
Love my 59X 👌🏻😊
Cool! You’ve got one too! What color?
Very good playing!!
Thanks Jack!
Something about that mean and jangly dano - it's perfect for garage rock type stuff :-)
hi eric. you had me at slide monster (i love open d). i imagine that coil tap sounds delightful with a splash of delay. sweet axe!
You imagine correctly!
Then again, what doesn’t sound delightful with a splash of delay? 🤙🏻
Looks and sounds great! I really love the look of the pickguard. And speaking of Something Else by the Kinks, here's an idea for a future lesson : Waterloo Sunset!
Ha! You must be psychic! That one’s been on my list for a while now!
Friggin great song
Eric Haugen
Can't wait!
Sounds great!
Thanks man! The dano+silvertone combo is a match made in heaven! 😇
Ive been looking at a Danelectro 12 string. They are very comfortable guitars that are well made.
Me too! You gotta love and electric 12 - the jangle king! 👑
Had 'your' Amp back in '65-'66! Wish I still had it!!!!!!!! Cheers
This one might be yours!
I got it in a trade from my buddy Tony back in like 2008. He got it at a music store in Arkansas so who knows where it was before that!
This Is a very fantastic guitar. Never play so good.
Nice amp! I run a 1448 for band practice and gigs. I recently got a 59x12. Those double lipstick pickups with the coil tap are the mad notes. Engaging the coil tap is jangle city.
I bet you get comments on the 1448 all the time! It's such a looker!
I gave you a thumbs up because I found great pleasure in watching this video. I wish for you a great future.
Thanks so much, buddy!
I wish you the same!
I get these little 'updates' flash up.. new video from the Tone Man on YT. Always doing something interesting, and as usual, sounding the business! Good stuff. I'd love you to transcribe that first 30 seconds or so.. ( or at least a brief mention of the chords voicings etc )
Thanks Matt!
Yeah I gotta do a lesson on that opening bit - that’s my take on Elvis Costello’s “You Belong to Me.” Great tune from his 2nd record 🤘🏻
Please do! Soon! I was making coffee thinking, I know that, it's familiar - couldn't place it; a bit like when you did 'King for a day', and no disrespect to the great man, but eat your heart out Tom. You knocked me right right out with that one.
Yes, please!!
Love the Danelectro s, I've a late 90 reissue, wooden bridge and all, put Seymour lipsticks in, awesome for blues, Knofler , Glimore and Young 👌👌
Sounds cool! I bet those Seymour Duncans sound killer in it!
Man, you guys have to stop I'm starting to get the "new tone itch".
It's incurable!!!
Eric Haugen yeah gives alot more warmth and nice gain but the "feel" is still there. Works well through the Mesa and dual 12 cab. 😀
Great, small, neck.
Love it.
Yeah!
And lightweight too - bonus!
#OwnTheTone
you should send your guitars to El Salvador, cos I need one!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty cool
Thanks dr. Rock!
A Danelectro that would actually like...
Nice one.
Yeah! These new ones are quite smooth to play! I’m impressed!
OMG! yes ur a legend for including some Brian Jonestown Massacre
Thanks! I love those guys, Spiritualized, Warlocks, - all that dreamy badass stuff 🤙
Yes man i think the same
Sounds Mint mate
Nice guitar! And your playing is inspirational as always. Would it be possible to have a lesson od Costello's "you belong to me"? Thanks!
Thanks man!
Yeah, I gotta do a vid lesson on that arrangement - it's real fun to play!
What was the song you opened with? Loved that! Can you please do a lesson? A retailer on Reverb was running a special and I bought a Danelectro '59M NOS brand new for only $299 and I was/am so impressed with what I got. Truly surpassed my expectations. That guitar plays and sounds great. Danelectro is doing a great job with this new generation of their guitars. THANKS!!!
Yeah I gotta do separate vid on that - it's my take on Elvis Costello's "You Belong to Me," from his 2nd record.
Sounds like you got a killer deal on your 59 NOS! These guitars are surprisingly smooth!
Love your videos man. Been watching for a good couple months now and I really like what your about. If you could do more hendrix style stuff outside of his hammer-ons and maybe some folk rock stuff that’d be great. I dont know if you do suggestions though.
Those are both great ideas! What type of non-hammery Hendrix stuff were you curious about?
I love folk rock too, especially the 70s stuff 🤙🏼
Hey Eric, one Hendrixian i get curious about is *that* chord he does...I can't remember any songs he does it in but I hear Khruangbin do it during their song 'Dern Kala' around the 2:17 and 3:29 mark. Any idea what type of chord that is?
Eric Haugen Old folk for sure. New folk is the same as pop and that’s [politically incorrect word]. And as far as the hendrix stuff, listen to “bold as love”, the olympic studios recorded version. it’s like a 6 minute long instrumental of him using triads in the coolest way possible. Some CZcamsrs have covered it but they miss a lot of key things. and they often just show you how to use it in THAT song, but you have a genius way of applying it to other songs and i’m sure this would he no exception.
Eric Haugen And what i meant by “non hammer ons” is stuff that arent hammer ons. you’ve done a ton of great videos but there’s obviously much more to his playing and im sure your aware of that. but yeah, his fills in that olympic studio version were outstanding.
Oh yeah those guys are cool - I'll check that song out again
Great guitar demo Eric! How about borrowing a Dano12-string and doing a longer Petty lesson?
Ooh good idea!
I could put together a Jangle-Medley of all the great 12 string riffs.
Amazing guitar, congratulations on the purchase! Could you do a mac demarco style lesson maybe? This guitar would be perfect for it!
Thanks man! That’s a good idea on the Demarco lesson - his stuff is grooooovy!
Please, keep in mind that lesson on demarco! Would be great to watch it
Oh yeah, I've got plans for him......
Eric Haugen I really appreciate it! Thank you for your time
Tasteful playing, as always! What made you buy the 59X instead of the 59XT? Everything is the same except for the Wilkinson tremolo, right?
Thanks Nathan!
I've got tremolos on 2 of my other guitars, so I figured I wouldn't need it on this one - especially since now it's set up for slide and it burns ☆(◒‿◒)☆
By a mile the best review of this guitar. Just hearing that different tone made me want one myself
Yeah! I use this guitar all day long in my lessons - I can’t get over how lightweight, versatile, and affordable these new Danos are!
For what it's worth, I disassembled and measured my 1990s Korean Danelectro a while back and found that it had a 25-inch neck scale and a 12-inch fingerboard radius.
vandahm I would like to determine the neck radius and scale length on my guitar. How do I go about disassembling it to determine these two external features?
Aha! Thanks for the info!
I should have enough with my tele but... I love these sooo much too XD
These danos are so fun!
They're affordable, but still really high quality.
Eric Haugen indeed :) nice playing by the way
Now there's a happy looking guy!
Give me a decent guitar and a tube amp, and I’m all good 🤙🏻
The opening song and the tone! Just why I would buy this...and the Page tone....I hope you are right about the weight. 6.5 lbs maybe?
These new Danos are crazy good - especially for the price! The neck is smooth - no sharp fret ends, and the pickups are really really good! I thought I'd have to swap them out - but i really like them!
And yeah - this thing is LIGHT!
Extra like for playing Brian Jonestown massacre
The dude abides!
Seemed appropriate on the Dano - I love all that throwback psyche stuff.
looking for a guitar for my father on his 70th birthday :) He love’s rockabilly 50s and 60s rock n roll. I think this guitar will fit his play style and music taste? it sounds old school to me. He only plays clean though.
I'd actually recommend a Fender telecaster or stratocaster as the best "all rounder classic rock" guitar.
These danos are really cool, but the fretboard may be a little too crowded for your father's hands
Hi Eric, how about tuning it to open E and giving us a lesson of the Faces "that's all you need " , now that would be cool. Your lessons are always an inspiration. All the best from sunny England, Karl
Oooh good idea, Karl! I’m in the process of looking for another good Faces song to arrange.
Eric Haugen, may I suggest, in no particular order;
Around the plinth
Three button hand me down
Had me a real good time
Miss Judy's farm
That's all you need
If I'm on the late side
(I know) I'm losing you
Stay with me (but everyone has done it)
What ever you choose to do ,I will look forward to it.
All the best Karl
Also,
Wicked Messenger, Rear Wheel Skid, Too Bad, and Debris are contenders too!
Eric Haugen , also- if I'm on the late side or wyndlesham bay (Jodie)
Would love to see some lessons for The Kinks!
Ha! Are you psychic??
I've got a lesson for "Steam Powered Train" buried on my channel from a few years back, and I'm about to shoot an arrangement of "Strangers"!
I am. And don’t forget it! Looking forward to the lessons! You are easily my favorite CZcams guitar guru. Keep up the good work!
Wow, love that opening song. What is it? I waaana learn it!!
Thanks man! I gotta do a lesson on that - it’s my arrangement of “You Belong to Me” from Elvis Costello’s 2nd record, “This Year’s Model.”
Yes...please!
What a nice, happy sound! - no matter which p'up combination. ?Question¿: How are the single coil settings for RF noise?? BTW, kudos for avoiding your O.D. pedal, so we can actually tell what the guitar itself sounds like. :^)
The guitar is pretty darn quiet indeed - I haven't noticed any significant single coil hum. Just great jangle in the bridge, and nice round tones in the neck :-)
@@EricHaugenGuitar Good to know, Eric. I'm probably overly cautious about single coils; as a bass player, many times I've played in venues where the guitar player was cursed with noise, from his Fenders. That Dano sure makes an appealing sound. :^)
Oh, another question, Eric: how is the neck dive? The strap point looks kinda, um, bodyward; and I believe they're light bodies.
Generally have the same taste in gear across the board, but with a Dano, you have to go single lipstick,- unless you have several. The "high mass" style bridge is a definite improvement/upgrade, even if the dubious wood original does add to the characteristic sound.
You can't go wrong adding a Danelectro to the arsenal, whatever style you play.Same goes for bass,- the choice when nothing else is working in the mix, or otherwise.
100% true - I ended up trading this one for the proper lipstick version and I love it more.
@@EricHaugenGuitar Yup.Not surprised that you switched up.
Like the Telecaster( like most Fender designs, actually), the basic '59 is hard to improve on.
Make sure you post an update after the transformation to Slide Monster. I am intrigued, much to my wife's dismay no doubt. ;) Maybe I'll just put a fat p-90 in my 335.... But those dual lipsticks...hmmmm.
Yeah! Stay tuned for that - I’m working out an arrangement of “Dead Flowers” in open D. It’s gonna be slide-tastic!
I can’t find words for your tone lol
Aw thanks man! You're always so kind to me and my tone :-)
Taste. Brother you got lots. I'll say It again, be glad you're not my neighbor, cause I'd be bothering you about my tone and your gear. My subscription could be your restraining order? lol 😜
Ha! Thanks Scott!
Hi Eric ! Is it good for Bottleneck or do you need to adjust the action ?
I ended up raising the action a little bit - here's me doing some slide on Rolling Stones' "Dead Flowers" with it: czcams.com/video/TkmzV6q6ZBY/video.html
Great demo. How is the access to the upper frets?
You're all good up to 15, which is just about as high as I ever go.
Maybe sometimes I'll need to bend a 17 on a high E, but mostly I tend to stay below 12, so the neck heel doesn't bother me on this model at all.
@@EricHaugenGuitar thank you for getting back to me. That's very helpful.
My pleasure!
For real, the build quality & feel on these new danos is really really good.
@@EricHaugenGuitar thank you again. Now I just have to wait til guitar center opens.
The intro reminds me of Rebel Rebel.
Totally!
It's actually the riff from Elvis Costello's "You Belong To Me" - killer early Elvis song :-)
@@EricHaugenGuitar Today I learned :)
Such great tone, and great guitar playing. I just looked at the Danelectro website, and it says the fretboard radius is 14" on the 59xIsn't you're Mustang around 7.5" ? Yikes, I'm used to a 9.5" fender. Maybe the differenceis not as huge as I am imagining, but 14" sounds really flat.
It really doesn't feel like 14. I actually use this guitar a lot - once I got the setup exactly right, I find it extremely comfortable. The vintage 1 5/8 nut width is a bit small, but I'm used to an old mustang so it's no big deal for me.
9.5 is my favorite radius, btw.
I had a Hagstrom Swede with a 16 and that FELT like a 16! Still a good guitar though, once you get used to it :-)
I have to get one, but how to decide what color to get!! Probably the one you got, but I like that light green one too. Ugh.
Would you use this guitar for Ry Cooder slide or something else?
Still enjoying this guitar Eric? Seems like great fun!
I ended up trading it for a stock '59 - mainly just for looks:
czcams.com/video/6lXV9OXBW4M/video.html
@@EricHaugenGuitar We share the same estetic preferences- I am looking for the exact same model!
A little hard to find in Europe right now though
Have you done a lesson on Georgia on my Mind? If not, may I respectfully request one? That arrangement was beautiful.
Thanks Jeremy! I gotta do a lesson on that one - there’s a version on my channel from 2016, but no tutorial attached 🤓
i second that!
What’s the difference between the 59X and 59XT. One has both pickups offset, so what does that do? Know any other differences?
Good question!
The 59XT has a wilkinson 2 point tremolo - perfect for surf rock!
Eric Haugen What does the X have?
Eric Haugen and I see the X’s lipsticks are straight while the XT is slanted - what would that do?
hrmm I don't think it would do that much - might boost the highs a little, but probably not enough to notice :-)
What's the first song you played?
I gotta do a lesson on that - it’s my take on Elvis Costello’s “You Belong to Me” from his 2nd record.
Nice jangly 60''s sound in the opener. I hear some chime in both the neck and bridge - pleasant tone. It's a 25 inch scale per Danelectro's web site (not 25 1/2) - same as a PRS.
Aha 25! Thanks
Can you do a lesson on you belong to me please? Sounds sweet dude
Thanks Nick!
That arrangement came out pretty good - I gotta shoot a separate lesson vid for it :-)
I love the intro to this video! That was awesome! Energetic, cool, and foot tapping fun! Please do video on that!
What's the Brian Jonestown Massacre tune?
Nevermind, I found it. Song's name is "Servo"
I know some of the other Danelectro guitars have an annoying wrap around under-saddle string set-up that makes changing strings a huge pain in the butt. Does this guitar have the same set up?
Indeed it does! That's funny that you mention that - my buddy Brian over at my local store was looking at this guitar and said "that's a strange application for the gibson-style wraparound bridge"
@@EricHaugenGuitar Thank you for clearing that up for me. Cured my GAS with one answer. My bank account is breathing a slight sigh of relief :)
I must say, they are kickass cheap guitars tho :-)
The pickups are voiced so dang well!
Eric Haugen oh without a doubt ! I was saving up for another guitar when this one popped up on CZcams, completely made me forget about the other guitar I was saving up for. I believe the 59xt saddle is not a wrap around, so there's hope yet.
When watching these reviews I always just want to hear the guitars tones without the miding board etc. Like just play it straight into the Blues Amp in the background there.
Thanks for the feedback!
Next time, I'll make sure to play the clean tone as well :-)
25" - 14" radius
Have someone try to play blues ..with that beutty???
I like p90 toooo much..but that quitar offers.. fresh tones!!
Good idea!
This guitar is great for garage rock and anything jangly - haven't tried some fat blues licks on it yet!
Brainwashed! ❤️ very nice man 🙌👍
I love The Kinks!
Me too brother! 🙌 . And brainwashed is a very rarely acknowledged all time masterpiece! Ray Davies in full blown social critique mode 👍☺❤️
No middle pickup switch setting?
ooops!
@@EricHaugenGuitar most Danelectros sound absolutely fantastic in the middle position.
Haha couple other variables?? You mean pouring sugar and fine wine all over the signal? jk your video sealed the deal for me
Ha thanks!
Seriously, this is my cheapest guitar but I use it all the time! The weight is perfect, the neck is smooth, and the pickups cover all necessary sounds - growly, thumpy, zingy, clangy :-)
@@EricHaugenGuitar while I still have your attention hoping, I was wondering if they also could stand in for a Rick type sound.. no one has mentioned that comparison. Is there any? Because those are way out of my league. Thanks again!
I can't speak to that exactly, as I don't have a Ric to compare it with, but the bridge pickup reminds me a lot of a Gretsch-style filtertron - bright, detailed, but not unpleasant at all.
May I suggest trolling though my recent vids for ones featuring the 59X - I know there's a Blondie thing I did that the 59X just slays on :-)
@@EricHaugenGuitar Sweet! Loved your Tortoise video. I was weened off of hardcore by them and stereolab!
sounds REALLY good. I'm just worried I might regret having only 21 frets
I never go past 18 usually, so it doesn't affect me - but I'm a very low-zone player. I always feel crowded past the 12th - folks who are more comfortable up there might not lack of 22 :-)
What String to you use, I mean the gauge? Sorry if the info is already somewhere ..
Thanks
Hrmm this has got the factory strings, which feel like 10s, but I’m not 100% sure.
What are you girls gonna tell your mother?
