    You are blessed to have Jana. My wife rolls her eyes when I listen to Prog in the car (psst It's all I listen too) She immediately puts her headphones in and listens to whatever it is she listens too. Whenever I see a couple reacting to prog I always wonder how each would react to each other listening to Genesis - Counting Out Time and see reaction of pure humorous gold. Keep going guys and good for you Jana showing your support by trying new things.

    I mean that breakdown section with the guitar and keyboards is like a religious experience! If you can’t vibe and appreciate the beauty of that you’re absolutely dead!

    This is one of the best. It often gets overshadowed by Octavarium for some reason, as if people can't help but lump all lengthy epics as one. This song is great, as it closes up a great album perfectly.

    I only discovered Dream Theater about a year ago when I found Distance Over Time at my local Walmart.
    I've put a good 15k km on my car joy-riding to their catalogue. And, A View from the Top of the World just dropped today. I can't wait for the weekend.

    Hi Nathan, Hi Jana. Thank you so much for selecting this Dream Theater track...I have been a DT fan since the very beginning.
    I'm a 64 year old rock and metal fan...of all types of rock, prog rock and metal. Ranging from King Crimson , ELP, Yes, Focus etc to Metallica , Opeth, Dream Theater, Enslaved and many more.
    It was quite a hard one for Jana to follow but I have to say hats off to Jana...you are getting there with the metal and prog...it won't be long before you are a fully fledged rock fan 👍✌️😆.
    Keep the reactions coming. Take care, stay safe. Peace guys . From Liverpool UK 👍✌️🤘☮️

    You guys have such great chemistry. Your smiles and banter are so uplifting.
    31:00 the way I heard it was that John's family had a history with this line of Tuscan counts, and he was visiting a castle. He had a panic attack, and started irrationally freaking out, because he has a panic disorder which he has talked about in interviews and in some of his lyrics.

    Great reaction guys! Jana, gotta correct you on one little thing, though. The opening sequence is in 6, not 5, but it's broken up into an unusual meter, going 4-2 rather than 2-2-2 (3/4) or 3-3 (6/8). The way it pauses on the 3 really makes it feel like it's a 5/4 measure though, kinda like falling off of a cliff. This is easily my favorite DT track, from the first time I heard the first notes of this song, I fell in love with it. It's so well composed, but it sounds so much more complex than it actually is.

    • @HollowGolem
      @HollowGolem Před 2 lety

      I think the part she's talking about in five is from that section where they are alternating measures of 6/8 and 9/8. (Technically it cycles through 6/8, 9/8, 12/8) Depending on how you think about it, some of that could just be treated as triplets in five.

    Making lists can be fun. On my blog I wrote my Top 40 pieces of Prog music that's at least 8 minutes in length. It was fun making it, though it changes every year. When I made the list in May of 2020, I had barely heard pieces like Supper's Ready and others, so they didn't make my list and even though I explained that, someone still found it odd that certain pieces didn't make my list. Go figure, lol.
    Hi Jana 🙂

  • @IllumeEltanin
    @IllumeEltanin Před 2 lety +2

    My first listen as well.
    I view the instrumental opening as the overture to a musical, and it wasn't too heavy for my taste. The opening lyrics and musical accompaniment became a bit too heavy for my taste, but it was short enough I was able to forge through it.
    Opposite of Jana, I loved the slowed down, peaceful instrumental before the final lyrics. And the song ended nicely.
    It may take a few more listens for me to appreciate the heavier opening lyrical section, but overall I enjoyed and would most likely not automatically skip over if I come across it again.

      Research the story behind the lyrics and I'm sure you'll find the heavier sections even more amazing as it relates to the overall theme of the song. These guys are geniuses and masters prog metal compositions.
