Hey everyone. So I quipped in the vid that I'd like to see an option of the foam insert without the Systainer - and what do you know, Benchdogs have added this as a buying option, available right now! How awesome is that! 🙌Fantastic to have such a responsive company, thanks! 👍👍
Cheers Peter, I only recently found your Channel and am pretty impressed with the information and value of content. I've just ordered this product without systainer with a nice saving included. I'm a novice but can see the tremendous benefits for this kind of accessory. Thanks.
I love this system , superbly made. you know a lot about these tools. well done.
Great video Peter. If only more companies listened to their customers views. I’ve been thinking about buying some kit from Benchdogs and little things like that make all the difference.
Will wait another few weeks as I’ve also been thinking of buying another rail for my Titan and also an MFT style top so looking forward to the future videos you’ve mentioned.
Cool peter so OCD is averted. can put them in a festool systaner 😊
They look amazing. I love when something is so well thought out like this. Beautiful piece of machining that 👌
They are lovely. Latest ones have a glass bead finish and a couple of tweaks to make them easier to use, too. Check out my Instagram for more photos and video. 👍👍
i bought one - superb service from Ralph and as a novice I want to build my kitchen units .. its brilliant .. thanks for demo Peter !
Very well thought out square that one. Top work Peter and bench dog UK!
Thanks Steve! And seriously, it was your conversation on Twitter with Garry that prompted me to dig it out and use it, so thank you! Yes, lots to like with this square - a ‘system’ square, I think! 👍👍
thanks for your video content and especially introducing me to the bench dog rail square for my Mafell/Bosch rails....a fantastic piece of kit..unbelievably accurate...I don't have a MFT so this is a great addition especially on a short rail....Cheers...
Very interesting tool. It’s truly awesome with the progression of tools over the last few years.
Yes, indeed. The explosion of accessible tracksaws alone has generated incredible momentum. Truly amazing. 👍👍
I agree... fence dogs, in combination with the rail square, would be a rock-solid combination of accessories to complete quick, easy, and perfect cuts, as part of a cutting system.
That's the best kit I've seen , infact it's just gone in near the top of my next purchase list 👍
Nice! Don’t forget the offer code. 👌👍👍
Smashing review of a fantastic piece of engineering! Ralph does lovely work! 👍
Thanks! Yes, great piece of kit! 👍👍
As always great presentation and video. What a great bit of kit. I thinks it’s probably worth every penny and if I ever get back to work this year I might be able to afford one. I love the feel of machined Ally ❤️
Thank you! Yes, a lot of thought gone into this set, and it shows. 👍👍
Those dog additions are a brilliant idea!!!!
Yep, very clever. 👍👍
Just make sure you get 'em tagged & a licence for 'em.. 🙄😂
Great review and great product. Really enjoyed the last 2 weeks’ videos - content that you do very very well. cheers Peter
Thanks Philip! Yes, I’m having a bit of an experiment with the style of the videos, I think it works quite well when there’s a lot of information to get across. 👍👍
Nice that you show several possibilities of use. Interesting video. Thank you.
Thanks Frits! 👍
Thanks Peter glad I bought the Titan, the review was excellent and it is on my wish list.
Thanks Ray! 👍
OK, I was sold at 9:25 The combination with a MFT top is what I needed. Thanks for reviewing this!
Thanks! Yes, ! think that’s really where it all clicks and comes together! 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop but with the fence on an mft drilled sheet.. Is the square still needed actually?
3:45 sold at this mark
@@ZenoErwt In my case yes because the large MFT I had made is not giving me perfectly square cuts!
Hi Peter. Watching your channel is by far the most expensive thing on CZcams. But hey you did just save me around 9 quid 🤗
😆 The more you spend, the more you save, right?? 🤔😬👍👍
Great video, really useful information, clear and very helpful , many thanks Peter.
Thanks! 👍
Very interesting. I would love one when they make a mafell one.
Coming soon, apparently. 👍👍
Great video and a great bit of kit made by a great company
Thanks! And yes, it’s a great square! 👍👍
I sell rail squares, and rail square accessories.
A cabinet maker that I know suggested that I buy a rail square. Even though I don't use my track saw that much, I'm glad that I listened.
great video great breakdown Peter. thanks as always for taking the time
Thanks Brad! 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop its just a no brainer upgrade i use the system from Tiaga tools which is great light and portable but this does add the gold star to design and thinking ahead for everything a square could do and more.... for all those features 200 is nothing really as shown by you it makes a portable MFT truly work on site without spending on the MFT full set up.
Nice - and very competitively priced, especially when using your discount code - thanks! Just bought the full monty set. Many thanks for your Video too.
Thanks! Yes, it’s a nice kit, and I’m a total convert to the overall concept of the rail square! 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Yep, I've been considering one for a fair while, and having saved money during lockdown, plus with your offer code, it seemed like the opportune time to buy one.
Another great video. You introduced me to Benchdogs months ago, bought the dogs and just received the square. Very nice unit.
Looking forward to seeing some new products from Benchdog. Finally figured out I can get 5% off using your site. Will use next time :)
Thanks, and glad to hear it! Oh no, what a drag about the discount - never mind, next time! 👍👍
Well you are one hell of a reviewer. This tool, that tool, this track, that track. I'm going to have to invent something just so I can have you sell/review it. Nicely done sir.
Thanks! It’s all about the information in these kind of videos. 👍👍
Thanks for the video, I just ordered the full set using your discount code. Yay another systainer to add to my slowly growing collecting ;)
Haha, thanks James! Yes, those systainer stacks sure do grow, don’t they?? 🤔😆👍
The price point on that square is pretty competitive and - it comes with some USPs that up its functionality over competitors. Great review Peter.
Thanks Bryan! Yes, lots of thought gone into this, and it shows. 👍👍
Thanks Peter just ordered one great review
Thanks Michael! 👍
I just bought a TSO GRS-16 and it is on the way. I wish I had seen this vid before I bought the GRS. This unit is on a much higher level at approximately the same cost. The machined aluminum is very impressive and the entire unit is well thought out. No springs or hooks to bend the track. The only drawback I can see is that you have to carry an allen wrench with you to assemble/disassemble/adjust the square. I already own a pair of benchdogs and the other accessories!! Thanks for a very insightful review.
Thanks. Yes, it’s a nicely machined piece. I like the idea of tool-less on the TSO but overall I always have a set of Allen keys within reach, so not an issue for me. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I'm surprised they didn't build an allen key slot into the design, they seem to have thought of everything else. It looks fantastic. I'm not a fan of my MFT, the top aside, and think this would be a far better option for me. I think the screw in dogs are a great idea, it sort of nullifies the requirement for a separate 45degree angle, as you can just align the dogs at the angle in the table for a mitre. I could see folk having smaller MFT style tops for out and about, could even replace a chopsaw in many instances.
Hi Peter, late to the party in following you but absolutely love your videos.
After seeing this video I headed over to bench dogs to take a look. I have got one on order for my Bosch rails and can’t wait to get going with it will also be looking at getting the fence system as well as making a portable MFT bench for my site installs. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Chris, and welcome! 👍
Great review mate looks a quality piece of kit
Thanks! And yes, it certainly is! 👍
Indeed Peter a foam insert for the systainer with the square for start and later on you can get the other pieces to complete the kit.
That was my thinking. 👍👍
We just added the option of everything without the systainer to the site
🙌 Awsome! 🙌 And there I was just trying to do a bit of market research 😆👍👍
Hey Peter, thank you for this review, i just purchased a railsquare for my Mafell rails. I opted for just the sqaure without dogs, inlay or systainer, hope they arrive soon. I got a nice little discount with your code, thanks for that. Best regards from The Netherlands. Maarten.
Thanks Maarten! It’s a great square - and a bit of discount never hurts! 👍👍
very nice review Peter, bench dogs make a great rail square in my opinion, we own one and its spot on, were even going to get another of the full sets in a sustainer too another great video sir
Cheers guys! Don't forget the discount code if you do buy! 😬👍👍
Peter, thanks for the information on the rail square. I agree that a super kit, which includes fence posts would be ideal. I’m nipping over to Benchdogs site now
👍👍
Great video Peter and it’s like you’re a mind reader for putting out content that is totally relevant to me at the time😀.
Btw the Scheppach rails are identical to the Workzone rails from Aldi. When I bought my Aldi tracksaw, one of the rails was bent out of line. Got in touch with Aldi customer service and they sent me out two replacements with the Scheppach badges on them😀
Thanks Leo! But I knew you were going to say that! 😂 Ah, thanks for confirming re the Scheppach rails - have to be a bit careful about what you say in a vid, as you know! And my apologies - I haven’t checked your new saw on old rails - I’ll do that and let you know, if you haven’t already tried it. 👍👍
This looks like such a great kit for a small workshop.
Yes, definitely 👍👍
Another great video....thanks.
My wife calls you “the guy that helps me spend ” 😆😆
Keep up the great work!!
Thanks!👍 😂😂
Agree about the 'box' - bit OTT?
Very tempting alternative to your home built (if expensive)
Compared to sone of the others it's pretty good value, but you do need to be sure you'll use all the bits and pieces. And to be fair if you're buying the whole kit, it's nice to have it all together in a systainer - it's just that I have many of them going spare as it is! 🤷♂️👍
I agree with your view about this square and the fence rail being a complete mft kit and if you break the I dividual components down its a fair price . keep up the superb vids Thank you
Thanks! 👍
Good one Peter. Seen Ralph teasing this kit on FB for ages now. Nice to finally see it in action. Keen to see a Mafell one!! Like your idea about a fuller full kit including the fence settup. On boxes, not just the Sys in this example but more generally, I've been dropping into conversations with dealers and people on site for some time now that whether or not you buy your tool/kit with a box should be an option. I quite often condense my tools where possible in L-Boxxes and Systainers. Last thing I need is any more. And lets face it, hardly anyone likes a s**tty blow moulded case!! Seems there's many out there that'd like the option of tool +/- insert, no case. I've even thought if it'd be worth reaching out to manufacturers and dealers to see if it's feasible. Anyways, all the best mate.
Thanks Stew! Yes, totally agree re boxes. So many guys are going with the systainer or L-box or some other stackable system, I think it should always be an option. 👍👍
I have the TSO square which is great. I use it all the time, with very dependable results. Festool make their own square now which seems identical to the TSO square, and is quite reasonably priced. This bench dogs square looks slightly slower to set up, but has some real advantages over the TSO/Festool. Great review. I’m quite tempted.
Thanks! The Festool square is licensed from TSO I believe. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Morning Sir, would it be possible for you to review the Festool/TSO square at some point? Thanks, 👍 🔨 🇮🇪
Got option 2 with the discount code. Thanks Peter.
👍👍
Peter
Great video and review as always. I agree with the comment about extrusion and bench dogs, not only for the set up aspects as you mention, but a great entry point for those of us getting into woodworking as a hobby. It allows us to experiment making Multi-purpose tops with the tools we need to make good quality cuts from the off
Thanks again
Thanks Paul! It has the makings of a great system! 👍👍
I'm not quite at the price range for this tool range yet but I've definitely got my eye on them! Great detailed review that's got me thinking!
Cheers David! 👍👍
Seems to be a beautifully engineered bit of kit. The problem in Australia is that some of these smaller tool specialists are very expensive to get to Australia. The smaller guys only use post or if they use couriers they don't put the volume through to get the discounts that the big shippers get. To illustrate the point, I got Mafell saw, systainer, clamps, 2 long rails and a rail bag delivered for less than the quoted postage for a plane from a small tool retailer. I don't know if there is a work around for UK sellers but there is certainly a market if they can. Where possible I would prefer to support small makers.
We offer reasonable prices for shipping to Australia, If you add it to your cart it will give you a quote
@@BenchdogsUK Great. But you'll understand why I am waiting for the Mafell version. The mark you have to hit is landed for AUD 409 or less [the TSO square - no extras]. ON top of the usual covid-19 aftermath Australian Property is going to slow[ Real Estate Agents] , fall by 15 to 30% [Australian Banks] or fall by 50% [international experts].So this could affect Australian sales. Where the truth lies is beyond my ability but, and this may come as a surprise, some Australian Real Estate Agents, on occasion, resort to alternative facts so there is just a chance that their projection is off.
Hi Peter, thanks for all your content on tracksaws. My crappy table saw hasn't been out for a long time now.
I tried a Workzone tracksaw. The rails were hopeless and wouldn't connect seamlessly, I think they came from different batches and the die was worn on one. Eventually I got replacements under warranty - genuine Scheppach badged rails came and I can confirm they were identical to the Workzone except for the sticker. Including the fault. And the rip strip was too shallow as you have found, so cuts weren't always 90deg as the rail wouldn't be guaranteed to lay flat. The saw went back to ALDI, the rails went on ebay and a TS55 turned up. Got there in the end!
Ha - just noticed Leo's been on a similar journey, so twice confirmed.
Thanks Andrew! Really ppreciate the feedback 👍👍
This is a fine example of why your at 60k plus. Nice presentation Peter. 👍👍
Thanks John! 👍👍
Looks straight forward to benchdogs to have a couple of interchangeable parts to enable the main system to fit numerous other rail systems, . thanks for the main review of the product
Thanks! Depends on the width of the other rails - a lot of the rigidity / ease of setup comes from having the edge of the rail bear against the rebated edge of the square, so it needs to be machined to fit. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop for those with a gap between the rail and the end of the guide then you can have an offset slide bar that brings moves the rail closer to the guide OR you can have a separate piece that slots into the gap to keep the two parts parallel. I suspect it is easier to change the brass bar to have different dimensions for the other rails and also to have the bar offset to one side to compensate for the spacing. This would seem the most economical solution as it would be a simple low cost interchangable part. Im sure the team at benchdogs can sort it if they see a real demand. Cheers
@@in2branding969 we. will definatly going to look into it.
Ralph really is a top man and seems to go that extra mile to keep his customers happy. I think the idea of an mft cutting station in a systainer is a good one. Benchdogs already offer a three section fence kit in a systainer 1. Put it in a sys2 with the square in a removable foam layer on top....et voilà!
👍👍 Personally I’d be happy to keep the fence in a bag with the rails, but yes, that would work!👌👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop you can never have too many systainers!
Drool! Oh, and the square looks good too :D
😂😂👍👍
Hi! I own a version of the Taiga Tools Rail Square. Perfect for what is was made for (square e̶n̶o̶u̶g̶h̶ cuts). Works really well. But this opens up the possibility of repetitive cuts with nothing more than a MFT-board. Once I find a loser to pick up my Taiga (not) I will consider to buy one of the sets. A Mafell-type when available.
Lots of squares to choose from, and no one that’s perfect. But this one comes close! 👍👍
Just bought the full kit 😬😬😬thanks for the 5% off code 😬😬😬
OOOO Like it, I'm one of those who purchased the Evolution rails so a version or adaption which would suit these rails would defiantly be interesting. Very very tempted to splash some cash on this.
Yep. Keep you posted on that one Alex. Big fan of the idea of the square though, total convert, lol! 👍👍
Yeap another vote for the evolution rails adaption!
Well, I'm planning to buy a longer guide rail for my Scheppach plunge saw to be able to work with sheet material - and I was pretty keen on buying the evolution st2800 set over in UK and have it delivered to Germany as no-one over here sells them. Seems like I should delay this purchase further and wait for the outcome of this. As original Scheppach rails don't fit either I'm pretty screwed, as this was my backup plan...
@@NB-pp9ou ANother vote for evolution.....just bought the rails
Great info!!
Looks great. I would love to see them design a hinged model to compete with the festool mft that could work in a similar fashion, Fixed at the rear of the bench and maybe can function without the need for the rail guide pin that comes with the festool mft at the front to keep cuts square. You could then have a wider cross cut capacity. And while were at it have it auto adjusting to the thickness of stock when its down??
As far as I can ascertain without spending a lot of money, the hinged rail is still a festool patent, which is why nobody else is doing it. 🤷♂️ Like the idea of self-adjusting for different material thicknesses though! 👍👍
Hi Peter, awaiting delivery of my square, its is impressive
Steve
Hi Steve! Glad to hear - it’s a lovely rail square! 👌👍
Great video thanks.
Thanks! 👍
Not available in the US yet, which is a bit of a bummer, but the good news is that Benchdogs UK appears to ship globally.
MFT in a box is a great idea to support the Jobsite woodworker and would be a fantastic marketing tool!
Thanks - yes, I think so too! 👍👍
Like the mft capabilities but the TSO has a quick release, tool free operation, which I am very happy with.
Yep, as far as I can tell they’re all really nice rail squares - there’s something for everyone. 👍👍👌
I agree. Not sure I want to keep tightening some bolts just to move the rail square. A locking lever sounds much easier like the TSO or Festool own brand FS-WA 90 rail square. I am in 2 minds which one to buy? Any advice would be great.
Hello!! Been a while and seems like I just missed your 60k! Congrats, and yes that kit looks fancy 👌😝
Hi Tom! Hope all’s well with you! Yes, I clawed my way to 60k at the start of the week, finally! 😂 And yes, it’s a nice piece of kit - that all are I think, tbh 🤷♂️👍👌
@@10MinuteWorkshop hey just pure swamped but not moaning. Been using the Frank Cochrane option for a while with mafell rail's can recommend but this looks great. Hope your keeping well esp of late 😔🙄😛
Great looking piece of kit. I wouldn't know whether to use it or frame it.
Oh, definitely to be used. And admired afterwards, of course. 😆👍👍👌
Very nice video Peter, I'm kinda wishing I went with this option now instead of the Taiga tools rail square. Can't fault the Taiga, just I love the versatility of this set.
Thanks! I think all the rail squares are good, but this set does have the edge in terms of versatility. 👍👍
I use the TSO square. Very easy to use with a quick clamp. This design is being licensed to Festool for their rail square .
It’s a great square, and great to have the choice. 👍👍

Great review and terrific product. I just need to win the lottery first 😉
Thank you! It’s my lottery tonight, I think, but after that... 🤷♂️😆👍
Excellent review, more tool and accessory reviews please. I really want to buy the Mafell plunge saw, but I cannot live with the gap created when using the score cut (I cut mainly MFC).
Thanks Anthony! To be fair re the Mafell, it’s about 50/50 with folks saying their saw doesn’t have the problem, and the same saying theirs does. I can only test the one I have, of course. 🤷♂️👍
Great vid.. Totally pro 💯
That looks like an interesting option at last
👍👍
Nice square! Didn't have this one on my radar yet.. But looks really good! Thanks for sharing this review. Especially helpful to see your setup at around 09:30 where you make a simple mft style setup with just a board with holes and some clamps :) :)
Btw: you don't look your usual self (especially in the intro), hope you are doing well and all is good. If not : best wishes and best of strength.
Thanks! Yes, I do like the impromptu MFT setup, very handy. And I’m absolutely fine, thank you! Just finished a job I didn’t particularly want to do, only to find the clients want me to hand int it for a while... 🤷♂️👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop ah, annoying situation. Clients.. Sigh.. They are almost like humans sometimes 😒🙃
Glad you are doing well yourself though! :)
Very thorough review Peter, I’m sure Ralph will come up with a mod to suit the Evolution rails as he did with the extension bar on the Mk2 fence which I bought recently. Unfortunately for me, my MFT has holes on 100mm centres so the extra dogs won’t fit. I think a version without the systainer is a good idea.
Thanks! Ah, that’s a shame about your MFT - probably the only downside of not having 96mm centres. 👍👍
Peter Millard maybe that’s another mod for Ralph, make one dog adjustable 😂.
I have the evolution rails and am looking at getting the Mk2 fence. What mod was required to make it compatible?
Absolute brilliant piece of engineered tool. Recently bought the TSO unit but I won’t mind having one of these because it’s a more versatile unit. Is it available in the U.S? Would have love to see some knobs instead of always having to use an allen wrench for adjustments. But I guess that probably would get in the way?
Yes, we do worldwide shipping.
P F yes, I bought the TSO unit for the same price as the full kit here! Ouch!
I would also love to see a fence/dogs/stop bundle with the square. I would snap it up.
It's coming... 👍
Really?
Seriously?
When?
Because that's what I want.
But I'll get the guiderail square dogs option if it's a long wait.
I think I'll be sticking to just using a roofing square!
Probably not designed for those of us that bought Aldi/Parkside saws considering even the cheapest one is nigh on double the cost of the saw!
I'm surprised there aren't plenty of Aliexpress specials for £5 around at this point
If it works and you’re happy with it then why not?? Must admit I haven’t looked in Ali express or banggood, good point though! 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I wouldn't say I'm happy with it, but me being the cheapskate (northerner) I am, I would rather faff about lining up the track than do the job in seconds but spend money!
Hi Peter. Thanks for another interesting video. I see the square is quite different to insta-rail or GSR-16 - the latter two use latch that pushes the square against rail edge, aligning it. On the contrary, how does this square aligns itself within the slot? Asking to make sure it doesn't have the same deficiency as festool/makita rail connectors...
As at 1.40 - 1.47, the rail fits tightly against the rebate in the square, and locks with the supplied allen key. The brass insert is pulled tightly against the t-slot by the screws. Hope that helps. P
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thanks, but still not fully clear I'm afraid... Does the rebate have beveled edge similar to GRC-12 self-aligning rails? [1] Or do you simply need to push it against outer rail edge while locking the nuts?
[1] tsoproducts.com/accessories/grc-12-self-aligning-guide-rail-connectors/
Been thinking about one for a while but this one is tipping me over the line. I’ve set up a basic mft using bench dogs and flag stop (your fault, Peter 😂🙄) and have been really pleased and I was very impressed by the service from Ralph/Benchdogs. Any chance before noon tomorrow? ......Bosch rail 😂
Cheers Iain! Yes, its’s a great setup, and I’ll be looking into the pros and cons of this vs a ‘proper’ MFT in due course. 👍👍
This certainly looks a great bit of kit and something that I think I would hugely benefit from, but as you show in the video I think the real benefit comes with having an mft table, which I don't have 😣
Honestly James, it’s pretty handy without an MFT top, but it does come into its own with one - and they’re pretty accessible 🤔👍👍😆
I am relatively new to all this, but why would you need the square if you have the MFT style top to begin with? Would regular bench dogs not allow to get the rail square to the piece?
If a rail is simply bumped against dogs then it can easily move, especially between cuts and having to check that the rail really is bumped to both dogs constantly is time consuming and annoying. I guess the parf rail clips help with that, not sure how much in practice.
Another difference is that because the regular dogs are arranged lengthwise along the rail you are limited to crosscutting boards that are less wide than the mft style top. Whereas if you have the benchdogs rail square at the end of the rail just after the crosscut fence then there is no limit to width you can use because the start of the rail is completely free of any dogs or obstructions.
Very impressive, Peter. Thank you. Could you please tell us about your large plastic & wood try square? I would really like to have one that size.
Thanks Harry! It’s a Mirock square - etsy.me/2MC0RT Vladimir’s in the Ukraine and makes some incredible tooling. 👌👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thank you, Peter. Just ordered it!
Excellent review Peter even though it confirmed my fear that it won’t fit any of my 3 different rails (Scheppach, Evolution and MacAllister/Titan). Looks like Evo might be solved soon though and I can only hope for Scheppach or a variable type one.
Thanks Alastair. Yes, fingers crossed for the Evo rails. The Titan can be made to work, but I’m not sure I’d put the effort in each time, personally. Fingers crossed for the Evo. 🤞
Peter Millard I know what you mean about the effort to change, but if you’re only using a Titan rail I’m assuming once you put the washers on, you’re set.
Peter do like the look of these squares. I managed to cause my ts55 to cut out the other day ripping 55mm Oak. Guessing I'll need to get me a lesser toothed one for ripping. Any suggestions.
When I did a broader mix of work I started using the Festool 28t ‘496302 Universal’ blade - amzn.to/2SHfPOc - which worked very well in a mixture of materials but would still leave a good finish in eg MDF and ply. Otherwise I’ve been impressed by Key Blades - this is a link to the 48t, but you can use that to find the 24t, I’m sure. Key blades 48t for TS55 - amzn.to/2ryM0Fv
HTH! P
Thanks Peter, I was a bit concerned when my prized tool started to slow down then stopped at about 1200mm. Was an extreme cut at max cut depth in oak so a good stress test I suppose. 10 min cool off then last 200mm finished with ease. With a new blade do we need a new splinter strip fitting?
Off topic on this vid slightly but have you got a separate surface on top of your MFT? Have I missed an installation video?
Hiya. Yes, I swapped the top out earlier in the year, see video 372 MFT top replacement, czcams.com/video/09an8aZrTqs/video.html 👍👍
Hi Peter!
What would you recommend getting first.. A (bench dog) square. Or one of those fences they make?
Doing small projects mostly, but also want to built closets, cabinets, and perhaps an entire kitchen in the future
If you already have an MFT too then a fence and a pair of rail dogs will let you start getting repeat cuts accurately. If you don’t have an MFT top then the rail square is a great starting point as it’s independent. HTH, P 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop thanks as always for your quick reply :)
Have 3d printed a drilling guide for making my own mft top. So I almost have one 🙃.
I'll be going for the fence option first then 🙂
Great video as always Peter and a very useful review to watch, come on Ralph sort something out for the Evolution rails I run will you!
Thanks Martin! Benchdogs have made a start on the Evo rail adaption, but they won’t have the section of rail until over the weekend, or early next week. 🤷♂️ Oh, and I realised after our chat, you’re casting a critical eye over the editing, aren’t you!! 😱😂😂 Any pointers welcome! Must catch up with you re the Derell eves thing too! 👍👍
Peter Millard will do, editing looking mighty fine as per usual.
Cheers Martin, kind of you to say so, much appreciated! 😆👍👍
Thank you Peter. It would be great if you could comment sometime on how this compares with the new Festool Rail Square. And you’re quite right, why would anyone pay 50 quid for yet another plastic Festool box?!
To be fair, if you don’t already have a stack of systainers it’s good to have it all together. And the new ones are a lovely dark blue... 😆👌 As for the Festool square, it’s a rebranded TSO one; haven’t used either, but it clips on rather than screws on, which is nice. The latest Benchdogs one comes with thumbscrews, rather relying on the Allen key, btw. 👍👍
Have you looked a Woodpecker's adjustable rail guide? This one allows additional angles.
Not yet - it's on my list, thanks! 👍
Is that the systainer it came in? I've seen it in a black one, mine came in a beige with blue opener and yours is in a festool one although that sounds like it's your own one
We have started to use tanos systainers but the Festool version we sent to peter before we changed. As the nhs has to purchase all stock for PPE we had to get what we could . But I believe our dark grey ones will be in stock but end of may.
For anyone questioning accuracy I built the cabinet boxes for a full-sized kitchen in my driveway using a TSO rail square and all the box panels came out as square as one could hope for using a full-sized cabinet table saw. I love my rail square. The quick-release really is a great feature on the TSO. On the Benchdogs square, the bevel adapters and MFT dogs are an awesome improvement offered. Great intro video. Thanks, Peter. Cheers
PS: I agree with your idea of an "MFT in a box" kit as I found the rail square so convenient that I finally sold the crosscutting rail clamp and protractor that came with the MFT/3 table as I found them fiddly to set up and I never quite trusted that it would cut square as a moderate bump would throw it out of square.
Thanks Ross. Yes, very very accurate in my experience - and great to have the choice, too! I do like the QR feature. 👍👍
Thanks Ross, that's a telling comment re the crosscut rail. Just starting out with a track saw and had a TSO guide on order as I could see the potential, but this benchdogs square is shaping up to an interesting way forward. As a DIY'r I'm sure it could replace a lot of other saws, maybe at the cost of convenience but for less money overall and still allow accurate work.
Hi Peter. Just looked on Bench dogs website and they sell the full kit and foam without systainer for £166
Thanks David - that’s the power of CZcams for you! Ralph popped up earlier in the comments to say he’s added this as an option on the website now. 🙌👍👍
Peter, the hand square you are using in this video to check the guardrail rail square, where can i find one ?
Links in the video description under the ‘used/featured’ section 👍👍 It’s a Mirock square - etsy.me/2MC0RT - great piece of kit! 🙌
Great vid a full kit would be a nice idea am making a MDT table both parts will make like easier
Thanks! Yes, great product and perfect as a basis if an MFT-style build. 👍👍
TSO makes a square that latches onto the rail. Your thoughts on the desirability of the quick attach feature?
Yes, and I’m used a latch on my recent (#418) DIY rail square. TBH I don’t think there’s much difference in terms of ‘quick release’ - how long does it take to twist a couple of thumb screws - but it would certainly pull the rail tight against the rebate, if it needs that. That’s why I used one on my DIY square, but the Benchdogs square is nice and tight just with the thumbscrews. 🤷♂️👍👍
+1 for the fence, as the fence that came with my mft is quite frustrating
Thanks Peter. Great product and review. I'd love to get my hands on a kit and I'm in total agreement with you... A kit without the systainer.
Side note: Powertec and Wen tracksaw guide rails are compatible as well. I have a Triton adjustable miter square and it fits like a glove on my Powertec guide rails. I mainly bought it to use as a square as it was dirt cheap... $26 on Amazon if I remember right. The Powertec rails are a direct Festool clone. Mine are both 55 inches long (1400mm).
Thank you! 👍
Thank you for the video Peter, another wonderfull and informative 10 minutes spent! I am torn between whether to purchase the Rail Square or the new Rail hinge, they both look amazing with just fine differing features. Just a committed DIYer My gut says Hinge for workshop, Square for roadshop, is that a fair call?
Yes, that’s a perfectly fair take on it - though I do find the rail square handy around the workshop as well !🤷♂️👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thank you for your response, much appreciated. I might contact Benchdogs and change my order from the hinge setup to the Square one. Hope that dean'yt upset them. Chris
A good video Peter and the rail square is a nice product. I will have to check his site out and see if he ships to the U.S. or if someone in the U.S. is carrying his products. A while back in one of your videos you showed a product that either clipped to the back of the Festool rail or laid under it to show the track saw cut line. Was that product also from Benchdog.UK?
All the best. Stay safe.
Ron
Thanks Ron. Benchdogs ship worldwide, so no issues buying from them direct - even the ‘10minuteworkshop’ discount code still works! If it’s what I’m thinking of then those other things were waste side cutting jigs from my CZcams pal Karl at StrawByte workshop - great product, so simple and effective.👍👍 Strawbyte waste side jigs - bit.ly/Strawbyte_jigs
Great information, more factual than sales-y. Have you ever compared fit of dogs in holes? Eg 20mm in a mft, dogs from Benchdogs vs ujk.
Thanks! No, I haven't - I don't have any UJK dogs, though I do have some older ones I bought ages ago, and they all fit well in both the (small)Festool original MFT top I use here, and the third party top I have in my MFT.👍
