Hey Scotty, Love your videos and the honesty of what you share. I have been trying to find a coolant leak issue on my mother's 2008 ford focus automatic with 79,000 miles for almost 2 years now. I took it to a mechanic when the check engine light came on and gave a bad thermostat code, electronic thermostat so I didn't want to mess with it. The car seems to erratically lose coolant, it will be fine for weeks at a time and then overnight it loses a gallon of coolant, no puddles or signs of a leak, I have replaced the cap, and the thermostat was replaced but neither one fixed it. Even after driving the car for 40 minutes and the gauge showing normal temperature, the cap is cool and can be removed without any spraying of coolant which would indicate there is a pressure leak but I have no clue where it may be. The passenger's floor remains dry which I have suspected maybe heater core but nothing wet there. the car does not have water in the oil and there are no signs of coolant being burned at the exhaust. The check engine light is off. This car has been a piece of crap, The ignition went bad and I had to rig up a push-button ($5) start because the issue is in the column and costs a few hundred bucks to fix, park quit working and they said the transmission needed replacing to fix it but the car shifts just fine in all gears, then the emergency brake handle broke, the button for release just flew out of the end, and I had to replace that for parking purposes. Do you have any ideas on why the coolant keeps disappearing without any signs of leaking or burning and how I might be able to find the issue? My mother has limited income and would like to make the car last another 100 years. Sorry for the long comment but I wanted to make sure you didn't suggest anything I already did short of sending it to the crusher as it runs fine and drives fine except for the loss of coolant erratically happening.

It's got a Mocha colored leather interior (after market, obviously), a Pioneer 8 speaker hands free stereo, brand new top, nearly new tires, new water pump and timing belt, heater core....etc. I couldn't get a bead on the value. He was asking less than $8k, I offered him @ 7. He took it. I even brought a true Toyota guy with me. He builds MR2s. He was blown away. It's not home yet, I will be able to pick it up soon!

I also had a 1994 Celica with the manual transmission and the 5SFE engine you're talking about. I loved that engine! It wasn't super crazy scary fast like the 3SGTE but it did the job and was really reliable. That Celica got rear-ended by a pizza delivery driver and totaled. I took lots of parts off it but eventually had to scrap the car including scrapping the 5SFE engine and manual transmission. I hated doing that because the engine probably still had 100,000 miles or more left in it.

Hi Scotty. Always enjoy your videos. I'm from New Zealand. Bought a Toyota Vista year 2000. Had it for the last 3 years. It ran OK for the first couple of years then all kinds of problems - faulty oxygen sensor, clogged intake manifold, dirty air filter & more. It used to judder & jerk badly at freeway speeds. Finally found a mechanic who knew what was wrong. I thought it was fixed but now the "econ" symbol, instead of flashing on intermittently, is staying on permanently. What this means is that if I'm waiting for the lights at a busy intersection, instead of a smooth, steady idle the revs drop as if it's going to stall, causing some anxiety! Do you think it's a simple fix or should I be looking to buy a different car? I'm kind of fed up with this one. Is the new Corolla OK? What's your opinion about the Suzuki Swift? I'm guessing your advice might be a '99 Celica! Hope you are well. Bye for now.
