    Danny is spot on. It is NOT subjective like Simon argues. Decisions are clearly wrong.
    The clearest example that springs to mind was last season, Chelsea vs Spurs, there was a corner, and Cucurella was literally was hauled to the ground by a spurs player pulling his hair. That is NOT allowed in the sport. Spurs scored as a result of the foul not being given, and yet VAR did nothing. That is not subjective - it is simply incompetence and a wrong decision that has cost a team a result.
    We are in game week 2 of this season, and there are already a number of potentially game changing referee errors that are costing teams points. Wolves SHOULD have had a pen against Man U. Liverpools red card was wrong. etc This is not good enough.
    Simon and Jim arguing that players need to respect the refs, is a seperate issue to Refs and VAR getting the decisions correct.

    Murphy asking for players being given time to “get used to rules”. Why?
    Players have been cheating for years now with almost no comeback due to the players themselves intimidating officials, managers doing the same, fans calling refs disgraceful names, idiots on social media pillorying every refereeing mistake without the same relish shown for players diving, missing open goals etc.
    The players themselves need to be brought to account for a change.
    A simple solution would be to give players a striaght red card for obvious cheating, straight reds for diving, straight reds for talking to the officials out of turn. Consistent, long term application of a system like this would rapidly bring these players behaving themselves.
    Football needs a culture change and the rules makers will help this by sticking to their guns of a hard line on ref abuse and cheating.

    So basically once a team goes ahead in the game, players on that team have to make sure they take every throw in within 8-10 seconds of picking the ball up or risk being booked but if a player takes 20 seconds or more if the game is level they won’t be carded. What a load of crap, since Howard Webb has come in they as the head of referees, the refs have actually become even more incompetent than before he was there!

    the only thing VAR should be able to overturn is offsides. Otherwise VAR should look at every single goal, pen, and card and if there is any doubt they send the ref to to the monitor but the ref on the field then makes the decision. Now there is the sense that the VAR sending the ref to the monitor means he MUST change the call. What matters is that the major decisions are correct. Goals, pens, cards.

  • @JayThandi
    @JayThandi Před 9 měsíci +1

    It's not purely about intent - a few years ago Mane sending off for high foot that collided with Ederson. Nothing malicious, but was dangerous so was a red. Mac Alister's wasn't a red card, even the FA have overturned his suspension.
    If refs want order back in the game they need to oversee matches with more consistency and VAR can help bring about more consistent decision making. It's incompetent because what 1 ref interprets as a red, another says yellow and another thinks 50/50 let play continue. If the rules aren't applied equally then there will always be a debate about are the refs doing their job or are they biased

    The officials may be mistaking mistakes and as an over 50 year old man I remember when what the ref said was final. Just take away the clear and obvious from VAR, this is making VAR harder to work. Remember VAR is only a system, it is down to the people running VAR.

  • @bbyshady

    I used to be a ref for over a decade, and once a month there would be a meeting w/ all the refs and we would go over situations and set standards for what we were going to call as a foul and so on for the season. That way there was a standard set and all the refs would be consistent w/ their calls.
    This was for youth club soccer, and I feel like we had a higher standard reffing youth games, than the EPL refs. Honestly, being a ref is hard, but it is not as hard when you have replays, and these EPL refs still can't get it right w/ the technology they have.
    They are either laughably incompetent or totally corrupt. Either way, everyone is fed up w/ them and they are about one bad weekend away from causing a riot with their BS.
    Get refs from other countries that know what they are doing, and I bet they would do the job 1000x times better than the current lot. Clear them out and see what happens.

    • @cgh08443

      VAR's role was never to get the correct decision all the time, that is impossible in a highly subjective sport, it was to get rid of the egregious errors which it has done a pretty good job of, not perfect by any means but not as bad as people make out

    • @kwamejones1977
      @kwamejones1977 Před 9 měsíci

      @cgh08443 - The egregious errors are still happening too often is kinda of my point.
      Football is subjective, in real time especially but video tech is supposed to help take subjectivity away and using it in a clear obvious way just adds another layer of grey area ..VAR just needs to step in to help the officials when required.

    • @cgh08443
      @cgh08443 Před 9 měsíci

      @@kwamejones1977 VAR was never brought into remove subjectivity, you cannot do that because the laws are inherently subjective, the number of egregious errors will reduce but without VAR there would have been far more. All I want is some objectivity from fans, by all means criticise when errors are made but also commend when things are done well, like we do with players, managers etc

  • @michaelredford5389
    @michaelredford5389 Před 9 měsíci

    You can't ask the players to "get in line". If the on-field referee and VAR don't get the decisions right on the day, nothing will change. For example, if players dive and con the ref and know that VAR won't correct the Referee's decision, they'll do it again and others will be encouraged to attempt it themselves.
    Regardless of their principles, results are king.

    'try their best' but still get decisions wrong after getting to see endless replays, that's not trying your best, that's incompetence at the highest level and it's been ongoing with certain referees but of course no one can say anything after PGMOL is an actual cartel, they don't allow foreign officials to join for eg. A referee not in the PGMOL can't referee a game, thats a cartel. Nevermind their little boys trips to Thailand and why a large number of them seem to be from Manchester but somehow don't support the 2 big teams there (despite members of their families having season tickets there).

    What is alarming in this conversation, especially from Simon and Jim, is that fans didn’t once get a mention!!!!
    The only reason the game exists is because fans pay to watch the game, pay subscriptions that fuel football funding channels…..the game IS ENTERTAINMENT that’s why it exists, no fans no funding no game…..
    The referees have a duty to balance that fact, the spectacle of the game, the event, the entertainment with the decisions they make. It’s NOT just about players and referees. Danny is spot on there is far too much refereeing incompetence and grand standing, the Tomi decision against Palace is just one example…..
    Once again it isn’t just about the the players and the referees there is 3rd party in the relationship US THE FANS…..and we don’t want games ruined by poor and inconsistent refereeing
