    This step by step tutorial is detailed orientated, the result turns out to be very nice looking. Thanks for sharing, as a female DIYer, I do get inspiration from you. Looking forward to your more projects.

    Why did you put mortar on the entire wall at once instead of doing it in small sections as you went along? The mortar will dry out and not adhere well to the stone.

      @@samml3836 I'm questioneing the choice of mud also. The mud should be applied with a half inch notched trowel, and the product should be a fluffy more wet mud. Oh boy...

    This was a rather sloppy DIY job.
    Mortar was mixed too thick
    Mortar wasn't troweled consistently- dry spots
    Too much mortar applied at once- guaranteed that mortar skinned over within 10 minutes
    Each piece should have been back-buttered
    Things that go crash in the night.

    Removed a section in my camper where the entertainment area is and installed. Works great. Instead of propane furnace heat, I can use this czcams.com/users/postUgkxATHBlMJwipGgVWseuAFKvDQ_5R4_lywo to heat the camper as long as it's hooked up to shore power. Only thing I do not like is there does not seem to be a thermostat. I'm presuming it has a built-in one so it does not overheat. Really like all the other color options it has to offer.

    My big concern is that it appears to me that the contractor/and his assistant tiled over the trim of the fireplace which now may effectively encapsulate the fireplace unit; what happens if the unit fails and has to be removed? my experience is that the fireplace components are reachable through a horizontal panel near the floor, which is removable but its not clear that that panel or the fireplace itself can be removed if needed for service or replacement after this DYI project. so... potentially not thought through.....

      Yes, I was wondering that myself. It does not seem to be a good idea to cover the edges of that insert unit...

    Coating the entire area first as well as not coating the back of the tiles could lead to premature failure. Dont follow their example.

    What is best way to finish the stone edge? What did you apply to the edge which meets drywall?

      They left the exposed edge and simply painted it. If it was me, I would have taken the extra time and knapped the edges.

    I don't know if you still respond to this thread but I understand the mortar application and use but I see in other places it mentions using grout and it looks like you didn't need to use any grout and that the tiles fit up against one another. I am using similar if not the exact same tile so I was wondering. Thanks and great job!

      Hi, thank you for your feedback! Truly appreciate it. I have not been on CZcams for at least a year if not more. Theses tiles did fit seamlessly together. We used the adhesive that was recommended for these specific tiles. I also, checked with 2 different contractors, because it is important to me that projects like this are done right! I hope you have a beautiful week! Did you end up finishing your project?

    Do I have to use backer board if it's just an accent wa and not a fireplace?

    • @kaykayglover2463
      @kaykayglover2463 Před 2 lety +1

      I've seen many other videos on this subject and the recommendation is to use the backer board for heavy stone. I you use a thinner, lighter manufactured stone-like product, then drywall is fine. Real-stone requires the backer board because the thin-set adheres to it best. I also learned that if your feature wall is higher than 10 feet tall, the recommendation is backer board no matter what product you use.

    *Very easy to set up and use, attractive but be sure you understand the height--it's not tall. The heat is not overwhelming, but steady and pleasant fireplace **fireplace.homes** . It's quiet, too. I like the possibility of easily moving it from room to room in the event we want supplemental heat elsewhere. Definitely a good buy.*

    Is it said that if the height is less than 8ft, its ok to put the stones on your drywall..... true of false?

    • @stevenmorris2293
      @stevenmorris2293 Před 3 lety

      Yes you can do a small area. But remember the weight factor . 1/4” cement board is very inexpensive, and will give you a perfect surface to adhere to.

    • @wyattsdad8561
      @wyattsdad8561 Před 3 lety

      @@stevenmorris2293 I have a customer who I originally thought just wanted tile around her fireplace but she now wants stacked stone like this.
      Can I just install 1/4” backer board over the drywall? It’s a pretty small area, just around the firebox.
      Or do I have to demo the 1/2 inch drywall I have already installed and put up 1/2” backer board?
